I don't think it's entirely fair to say that sponsors care more about the WDC over the WCC. That likely depends on what's happening during the season. Some seasons are team-focused, some are driver-focused. 2010 is a good example of a team-focused season while this year is obviously driver-focused.
And though Mercedes has a lead in Constructor's, it's not a guarantee they will win. Both Bottas and Hamilton have been quite inconsistent lately and several tracks that have strongly favoured Red Bull in the past are coming up soon while Mercedes has squandered several opportunities that they should have maximized. There are question marks still about reliability for Mercedes as well, and Hamilton is still likely to need to take an engine penalty.
Arguably, the best thing that could happen for F1 and for both team's sponsors is for the result we had yesterday to happen. The Verstappen-Hamilton fight got even closer as a result, which brings more attention to both teams. If one of them starts running away with the championship, then people will stop paying attention.
Its quite hard for one to break away now with only 7 races left, in 2018 Lewis was 30 points clear with 7 races to go. 2017 was close with 3 points ahead but then Singapore happened. Unless there's something dramatic then someone might start to inch ahead but they won't get out of reach until at least the last two.
As a side note from the race, does anyone else wonder why they let Alonso get away with what he did at turn one? Had no intention of attempting to make the corner, just thought it was faster.

Hard to argue tbh. IIRC he was 4 wide on the outside going into the braking zone. It can be reasonably argued that he had no choice but to take the runoff. He definitely did gain an advantage, but it wasn't lasting either, because most? of the people he passed doing so got around him within a lap or so.

A couple articles and videos are around the internet about it too.
The advantage can only last up until the next corner. So the fact that he lost it within a lap isn't really relevant as far as the rules go.
But I'm not going to be up in arms about it. He exploited a loophole, which any driver on the grid would do. It's fine, as long as it gets fixed until next year.
Was hoping for that race to be a bit more spicy with the wet track. Ended up being extremely boring aside from the brief Perez vs Hamilton fight towards the end.
Happy to see Max back in the lead though. Championship fight is still strong.
Not that I care too much about this specific event, but Gasly getting penalty in T1, first round, in the wet, because he was leaving space for Perez on the inside, is such a fucking joke. Meanwhile, no penalty for Sainz blatantly crashing into Vettel, overtaking, and not even handing the position back.
The Stewards system needs a proper rework. It's so laughably inconsistent, and their excuses(lies) are just getting worse and worse every time they open their mouth

Yeah that Gasly penalty was weird, I was 100% sure they would not rule against him. Thing is, Perez was pushing him from the left side and Alonso just cut right through the middle of turn 1. They all got greedy and they guy who got sandwitched got the short end of the stick. Gasly was the least one to blame in that case imo.

That was the only thing this race had going for it. Unfortunately, that was never going to happen on this track. Lots of medium corners that you can't follow in. Start-finish straight is the only place that's even possible, and despite it being longer than the airport scene from Fast and the Furious, no one can get close enough at the start of the straight to make use of it

Rear wing impounded til tomorrow morning, and decision will be made prior to the sprint race as to what happens.
