Netherlands hasn't been pretty good for years. No idea how van Gaal pulled it off but he did an incredible feat reaching top3 in world cup. I even remember saying it himself that this team has its limits.

After that they looked pretty pedestrian and had a decent draw Got out of jail vs Mexico, CR on Pens, and then lost to an equally misfiring Argentina (who themselves had a nice draw aswell tbh)

Van Gaal breezed through world cup qualifiers with the same group of players, we scored one of the most goals and conceded one of the least. It wasn't the prettiest football, but it was all about control. Hiddink abandoned midfield control, pushed our fragile back line to the test repeatedly and then pushed players into the squad who had no right being there. Hiddink is a big part of the reason we are in this mess because he refused to admit that his style of play, which was a complete turnaround from Van Gaal, wasn't working from day 1 and Blind who should have turned things around is simply doing the same thing as Hiddink. Blind also has no managerial stature, how he keeps landing jobs is a complete mystery to me and shows that if you have the right friends your qualities don't matter. Anyway Koeman was the far better choice. A shame personal feelings and friendships got in the way in what should have been an easy transition. Honestly though, at this point I really wish we don't qualify as this will mean some major changes within Dutch football. Going to the Euro's playing like this will just put us at the receiving end of some real batterings.

I was looking at his stats today and attacking wise he had a better season at chelsea in his last year than hazard did last year, more goal, assist and chances created per minute. Not saying hes better than Hazard but that year he seemed around his level, and yet Van Gaals shifted him onto the wing. I'm a massive utd supporter and i do like what Van Gaals done so far, but I've always found Mata being sidelined and played out of position and how none of the media have given either manager stick for it really odd. He's only 27 as well, many players don't hit their prime until 28/29.

He's only 27 as well, many players don't hit their prime until 28/29. because rooney is a bigger figure than mata is. moyes had to play rooney behind rvp because he couldnt bench rvp. van gaal had to also last season. as for this season i think its because mata doesnt play well when he receives the ball with his back facing the goal. at chelsea i think he had a lot more space because of the way chelsea played and the way teams played against them, but at man utd we play so high up the field and so many teams park the bus against us. mata is good when he is played into space and he receives the ball looking towards goal. if he has to turn after receiving the ball who struggles, especially against multiple opponents. i think thats why he's put on the wings. less opponents, more space and hes facing forward. in the middle he has to make his own space and fight off 2 or 3 players
