Players committing accidental fouls, that deny a goal-scoring opportunity, are not automatically sent-off, but cautioned instead.
The ball will also be able to move in any direction from kick-off, rather than only move forward.
Players who are injured by a challenge punishable by a yellow or red card can now have quick treatment on the field, rather than having to leave
The IFAB, the game's law-making body, also approved a two-year trial period of video technology to assist referees, to be used in four cases: to determine if a goal has been scored, red cards, penalties and mistaken identity.
New rules hype!?!? Lol it feels like a sc2 balance/bug patch applied to football :D
I dont mind the penalty rule i think that is nice. Sometimes when a tackle is made and he has slipped before it or something and was last man, that is a harsh red card. Now that becomes a yellow which is good. Injury rule would have also stopped Mourinho losing the plot against our medical staff when Hazard had to leave the pitch and maybe he kept his job because of that cuz we would still had our pretty physio lady etc xd
These rules sound absolutely awful except for the video obiously.
Player fouls for normally a red card Player: "But Ref, i slipped!!" Ref: "Oh? Ok i give you just a yellow then"
Player gets treated on the field Player: "Ref, it hurts so much, i think I'm gonna die!!!" Ref: "You can have treatment on the field.... oh we have min 85, i can probably end the game right here because, lets be honest, thats whats gonna happen anyway

For real??
The scenario you painted for the first one makes it sound like the player has a say in this process which is silly thinking.
As Pande pointed out it means the referee has discretion and we can avoid having games ruined because of a red that the ref absolutely has to give even when the goal scoring attempt wasnt prevented by a professional foul.
Kinda unsure about the second one, it seems rather vague, but it does say "quick" treatment. Whatever that means.
Its certainly not something to get upset about anyway.
Pretty sure that last I read about this the only situation that the card change affects was going to be professional fouls resulting in a penalty, so you would avoid triple punishment of penalty, red card and suspension. Fouls outside the box would still be red card plus automatic suspension. Also Pande could just post his source =)
Also the injury rule is to stop it being unfair when a player gets rekt and is on floor and needs the magic sponge/spray. However then he gets sent off the pitch for 20-30 seconds until ref waves him on, this now stops so that there is no advantage for the team who fouled the guy in the first place. That is a great rule, one of the common sense ones, most of them are just common sense rules.
Another rule i forgot to add;
Referees' powers have also been extended so that they can send-off a player before kick-off, from the official's pre-match pitch inspection onwards.
Also Italy has been selected as a trialist for Video Technology

Of course, i just wanted to paint a picture here.
Still, players will abuse the shit out of this
Also there is common sense and then there is absolut competitiveness, winning no matter the cost. They are not the same
Italy hm? Don't know if that's good or bad. Guess we'll see I really like the "hawk eye" character of the video a lot. So there will still be some leeway for the Refs
Hm? Even in the past red cards before kickoffs were a thing. So not sure what has changed here. Also I'm not a big fan of the new "red at refs discretion" for chance denying fouls. It will jut lead to more debate clubs on the field, more ref blaming after the game by all sides etc. Make the rules simple and clear to help the refs instead of all this freely interpretable shit everyone twists in his own favor.
And if this past 2 weeks showed something it is that we need more red cards, not less. This "But I only punched him in the face once (and the other 2 times you didnt see it and UEFA doesn't care)" mentality spreading in footie is sickening.
There was always a big topic in Germany about fouls like Iniesta for few years. All (Bundesliga) coaches want to rid that "Dreifach-Bestrafung" (triple punishment) for the last man at penalty box. If Iniesta got red card for that in bundesliga. 1) team plays with one man down for the remaining time. 2) opponent gets penalty 3) he will be banned for more games
Actually I am happy that CL referees avoid that "triple punishment", Bundesliga still doesn't.
We all are used to see red cards for such fouls for decades we will still be surprised with yellow cards in such fouls for next months/seasons if they continue to avoid triple-punishment.

Ya, Darmstadt doing really well. Wolfsburg missing De Bruyne badly to carry their mediocre team. They are probably going to spend a lot of money in the summer transfer window to try and get CL again next year though
