Aldo is being trashed in some circles for a post fight comment he made that was instantly translated into english. i'm sure the translator tried his best.. but in the post fight mayhem.. and having to communicate conflicting subtleties between languages.. stuff can get missed.
Rogan has acknowledged an alternate translation to what Aldo said in the Octogon. Props to Aldo for sticking around and getting interviewed and facing the heat. I haven't seen a post contest interview as brutal as this.. since Wayne Gretzky answered question after question when Canada got knocked out of the Olympics in 1998.
Again, big props to Aldo. I paid over $500 to watch UFC 129. And , Aldo and HOminick put on a show that was worth the price of the ticket. GSP got eye-poked early in the main event and the GSP-Shields fight was ultra boring.
Edgar deserves the shot before Aldo. Speaking from the perspective of a UFC employee (fighter, imagining that is) if I was Aldo I would argue for it but I wouldn't be surprised when Dana told me to choke on one.

you're using mmath doesn't work like that
Its not MMA math. It makes no sense to be ranked above someone who beat you in your weight class. It makes even less sense when that person in the new champion.
So many new champions this year, who would have expected so many changes in the title pictures. Personally, I'm super excited to see how it'll play out next year.
Who do you guys think Rockhold and McGregor will defending their title against first? Do you think McGregor will be moving up to lightweight before fighting Frankie Edgar? Will Rockhold have to fight Vitor Belfort again, or possibly even Anderson Silva? Who is Demetrious Johnson going to fight next? When is Jon Jones coming back?
I'm so very excited.
Also, if no one minds, I'll be making 2016's MMA thread again. I know I was a little slow in updating after every event (dunno if anyone actually pays attention though...), but that should get slightly better since I won't be as busy with school.
Rockhold will most likely defend the title against yolo romero and i think mcgregor says he want to fight Frankie or moving up and competing for the lightweight title (while still holding on and defending the featherweight title). If he decides to move up he probably will get a fight against Pettis or Cerrone/Khabib/Dos Anjos, whoever isn't fighting for the title. All those boys are pretty good strikers or pretty good vs strikers. Should be good fights.
McGregor's fight will be dependent on how much damage is done during Dos Anjos vs Cerrone fight. If Dos Anjos/ Cerrone is damaged too badly, McGregor will probably take the Frankie fight first, then fight Dos Anjos/Cerrone.

you're assuming Holm > RR > RR opponents
The media is thinking what RR has done trumps her losing to Holms and the odds show this btw. i dont disagree with you but who cares, its media bs anyways.
I don't get the whole drama behind finding out what fighters do in their personal lives? Do people really think that people who like hitting other people for money are going to have outstanding personal lives?
Also, I'm interested in seeing how much influence McGoat has now, after such a success.

Ali and Holmes are polar opposites in this way. No one cares about Larry Holmes' personal life. The world can't get enough of Ali.
the fascination is a response to some parts of the media upholding fighters as some kind of moral compass of western society. Ali played into this narrative and Rousey plays into the morality narrative as well. Had either fighter conducted themselves in the way Holmes did their personal lives would be as ignored as Larry's was.
Of course, there was a lot more at stake for Ali than there was for Rousey and Ali was cornered into his political stance. However, once he made his decision he hardly shied away from the spotlight. Also , Ali paid a high price for his views. All Rousey has to worry about is a few meme makers and Reddit posters that don't like her.
As long as ESPN keeps pumping out powder-puff-promo-pieces about what an elite human being Rousey is she'll continue to get a backlash when some ESPN viewers believe she has done something immoral.
Illogical MMA P4P Rankings
for people wondering about some unusual rankings .. a Brazilian MMA P4P Rankings Panelist decided to drop Mcgregor 4 spots lower AFTER HIS WIN at UFC 194.
These rankings don't mean much... if a panelist or 2 or 3 has a personal bias that they let reflect in their own vote then its more of a popularity contest than anything else.

Well, to be fair, JimmyJRaynor just pumps out whatever he sees on http://reddit.com/r/mma and posts it here...
I can only imagine McGregor can do whatever he pleases at this point. I believe White said earlier in life that if a champion wanted to move up/down a division to fight for the title, they would have to vacate their current title, but I'd imagine McGregor can get a pass so the UFC can promote the Champion vs Champion storyline again, only with this time, with McGregor against either a stubborn, short-tempered Donald Cerrone or an exceptional all-around great fighter in Rafael dos Anjos.
Personally, I'm half and half on Frankie Edgar getting the shot at McGregor... One side of me wants him to get the title shot he so deserves, losing only to Henderson and Aldo for the past several years and beating killers on the way to the belt. The other side of me doesn't want to see Edgar possibly getting knocked out. Edgar probably has the best granite chin in the entire UFC, but we thought Aldo had a chin as well and look how quickly McGregor dismissed that claim.

try and find the MSN link i posted noting the change to the ESPN article any where on Reddit? or Demetrious Johnson nailing the dynamics of the Mcgregor/Aldo fight .. or the Ali/Holmes comparison... or Hefty Neil getting KO-ed in 3 seconds... none of it is on reddit.
i get some stuff off of reddit , however, to say i do nothing but paraphrase reddit stuff is off-base.
This article here i got off of ESPN.com because i'm on the site lots.
UFC Boss Predicts Mcgregor 1st To Hit $100 million
Thoughts On Rockhold Fighting i wonder how bad an infection has to be for the UFC to force a fighter off the card for fear of the possibility transmitting the infection to his opponent.

From what i've read he had cellulitis, which is not contagious
