This is a joke post right? i was not joking December 22 when i said the Raptors would be out of 1st in teh eastern conference on January 2nd, and i'm not joking with that comment. If Rose or LBJ take extended rests in order to be ready for the playoffs and then end up playing the Raptors in the 1st round then Toronto is done in the 1st round. A healthy Rose on Chicago takes down Toronto every time. A healthy LBJ on Cleveland takes down Toronto every time. Toronto is great at beating up lousy teams. Lowry plays a very physical game... if u think Lowry is going to keep on playing this way without getting hurt in the playoffs you must be drinking your kool aid out of Lake Ontario. Jimmy u r a #hottaek machine. Love it. But there's a 0 percent chance Toronto even plays the Cavs or Bulls in round one. Theres a pretty high chance Toronto gets a 4 seed and ends up against the Bulls/Cavs/Hawks/Wizards, its even possible that they won't have home court advantage. Its not probable, but its possible. Toronto looks strong this year and hopefully a strong playoff run can help their culture in the future to become contenders, I just don't see them having a player that can take them to the promise land this year.

"European players are more skilled and play the game the right way". When someone sits down and explains what "the right way" is and where it doesn't exist in Americans I'll be all for it. He talked about footwork, competency with both hands and being able to post. Being a wing dominated era has definitely changed the priority of some of these things, but I don't think he's off base with his criticism of AAU player development (it's more of a showcase than a place for development.) He's correct about AAU generally being a money hog and showcase league. But that doesn't go for everyone that is an American basketball player. His spiel about Europeans being more skilled than Americans is just crazy. Watching those under 21 leagues there is a vast gap in dribbling and post up ability. You're chances of even making the league without being competent with both hands is pretty slim already. There's a reason young Europeans are coming to America to develop. But I don't feel like getting into the entire AAU/youth debate because the guys I learned about it from don't post here. Short story is it's just a fucked up system because the coaches are also kind of screwed. The Raptors last year were a top SRS team that slightly underperformed due to coaching and injuries. Preseason I said them and Atlanta are a lock for top 4 because they are A.) Young and B.) have multiple above average players with some bordering on superstar status. Wallah! Both are top SRS teams this year. Toronto's chances of losing in the first round - even if they somehow met Chicago or Cleveland are slim. They dominate both teams whether Rose or Lebron are there. You would need improvements from the Bulls and Cavs right now to make that statement more sensible. If Toronto is great at beating up lousy teams post their record and ORTG/DRTG splits to prove that it somehow means they will lose to Chi/Cle (one of which is lousy right now).

raptors are legit contenders though especially in the east. i don't see cleveland stopping their cuts and screens like ever. cavs are really shit against driving guards

@Bob: Yep they do. Their defense has been dropping recently with the loss of Demar and them looking like they'll just try to outscore everyone. Still think they would kill the Bulls in a series because Noah has been bad by his standards this year and Rose is just not good right now. Outside of Butler and Pau, Toronto would have 3 of the top 5 players in that series (counting DeMar and Amir) On January 05 2015 07:40 jeeeeohn wrote: All this discussion about the Raptors / Cavs / Bulls is irrelevant because the Hawks are winning a championship this year. If Toronto can't move towards something resembling league average D then they're gonna struggle imo.

That's half their cap playing 20 mins a night. Holy shit, what happened to D Will? Remember when him vs Chris Paul was a legit thing?

KG is also a UFA. EDIT: What a difference a single player makes. Though a part of it can be attributed to the coach. Which could explain the Kings ![]()

Phoenix just made it look easy. its funny taht i used that exact phrase a couple of days ago .. and after teh Phoenix game Suns coach Jeff Hornacek used the exact same analogy. http://www.sportsnet.ca/basketball/nba/suns-hand-raptors-second-straight-blowout-loss/ On January 05 2015 07:04 Ace wrote: They dominate both teams whether Rose or Lebron are there. If Toronto is great at beating up lousy teams post their record and ORTG/DRTG splits to prove that it somehow means they will lose to Chi/Cle (one of which is lousy right now). The Raptors are 9-8 against teams .500 and over. How many "power house" teams get to play New York, Boston and Philly 12 times this year? Chicago with Rose healthy is a better basketball team than Toronto. A healthy Rose is the best basketball player on either team. This is the general consensus amongst most observers not some wild out there "theory". If its so obvious Toronto is better then how come Chicago beats them when Rose is in the line up? The Raptors had a pile of home games to start the season and this made them look better than they really are. You can of course over analyze all the stats generated during their early home-heavy portion of the sched and somehow try to cook up some theory that Toronto is better than Chicago. Direct observation of this year's games between the 2 teams suggests otherwise. Toronto's best hope against Chicago is an injury to Rose. The Raptors are a slightly above average team with zero chance of winning the eastern conference.

I don't think we're gonna see MVP Rose again. He just isn't the same player anymore. He's still good but certainly no dominant superstar.

However, i think Chicago is going out of their way to really baby Rose so that that dominant superstar can arise in the short spurt of a playoff run as opposed to the grind of an 82 game season. http://www.nba.com/games/20141222/TORCHI/gameinfo.html?ls=eref:google:1b:post "We didn't play defense and they executed extremely well," Lowry said. "Derrick Rose looked like his old self and he played extremely well. They executed extremely well. Forty-nine points, give them credit. Whatever play they called they got good shots, and they got where they wanted to get on the floor. But we didn't give them any pushback. That's one thing we have to make sure we do from now on." if Chicago babies Rose as they seem to be doing look for Rose be his old self for at least 1 BO7 series during the playoffs this year.

Rose has done it to the Raptors twice this year. its part of what makes a superstar a superstar and i've seen it happen in baseball, hockey and basketball with guys like Roger Clemens ( 1990 ) and Mario Lemieux ( after cancer ) and Derrick Rose did it on December 22. Derrick Rose aside, once all 82 games are played .. and you take into account Toronto's cream-puff schedule it'll be clear they are a slightly above average team and nothing more.
