Since we're past mid-season, how have people's opinions changed on Wiggins/Cavs? Still the right call? Even though the Cavs could've still gotten Love in the off-season.

I feel like this is a counterfactual we're going to be talking about for a decade.

Love looks amazing lately. Wiggins is looking better but no idea if he ever gets that good. Secondly, I think Minny may be a blessing in disguise for him now that Rubio is back. Playing with Kyrie+Lebron would have been a shit show.

I think it was better for both parties, Lebron wants to contend now and Wiggins will develop better on the Wolves with less pressure/a greater role. I think the trade might be poorer in the long term for the Cavs though.

I think the rumors of Love not re-signing are mostly speculation and unfounded but it'll be hilarious if he doesn't.

I feel like the Cavs could have done without Love and gotten a better bench and still have been just as good if not better this year. Love just isn't really worth his salary on the Cavs atm.

haven't watched kevin love recently but he's probably an important part of their offense, and wiggins isn't replacing that role this year.

having said that wiggins is already outperforming his rookie contract and he'll be one of the best contracts going forward if this pace of improvement continues with more physical maturity. dude's finishing well at the rim already and can play good one on one defense.

don't think kevin love is the difference for the cavs in terms of winning a championship, and this is the only scenario in whcih the trade would make sense. there's no way cavs or lebron would make the same trade at that same juncture in time with the hindsight knowledge we know now.

if they do not win this year then they just paid years of wiggins for a few regular season wins, not worth

but , i guess most people gravitate to catch phrase, 3 second sound bites.

after you repair the meniscus and it tears again usually they just remove the torn portion. they dont do a 2nd repair. therefore, recovery time is not 6+ months. the repair procedure requires soft tissue healing. the removal procedure foregoes that process.

" In some cases we only remove the torn piece — in general you will progress faster than someone who had sutures placed to repair the meniscus tear."

because Rose has been very careful with his knees he keeps the doors open to a possible recovery. Rose has done a nice job of refusing to "play through the pain". Guys who play through knee pain end their careers very fast. Rose isn't doing that.

We're not negative because of 3 second sound bites. We're negative because of Rose's injury history and his history of recovery.

as i said in my post .. a meniscectomy involves a much shorter recovery time.
http://espn.go.com/chicago/nba/story/_/id/12388691/derrick-rose-chicago-bulls-surgery-friday

the DRs were really specific about this a couple of days ago. Yet many jumped the gun and declared Derrick Rose finished. a meniscectomy is usually the route taken once you've retorn a repaired meniscus.

as an example, Dwayne Wade had a meniscectomy in college and was able to play at a peak level for many years before his knee started to deteriorate the last couple of years.

also, he may only have a small portion of his meniscus removed. it really boils down to waiting until the surgeon opens him up to see exactly what is going on. an MRI is a quantum leap better than any X-Ray, but its still not perfect.

Rose is in a rough spot , but don't count him out yet.

Wiggins would be in a logjam and not be doing nearly as good?

Love is also coming on strong lately.

i was speaking purely from a fast break perspective, but i mean i think he could play at SF/SG and they did trade for shumpert and smith, so clearly CLE thought they needed depth there. so i think he would have gotten decent amount of minutes, had he stayed at CLE, whether backing up lebron or getting minutes at SG.

at the very beginning of the season though, i could see your point, cause he would have been behind lebron, waiters, marion and miller?

wiggins isn't as good of a spacer as love but he can shoot the 3 decently well especially catch and shoot, and he's a great slasher and transition guy.

I still think it was the right move for Cleveland. Love was perceived to be a top 15 player and an elite offensive player, which he's shown flashes of recently. Hubie Brown did a quick little math problem on one of their nationally televised games in which he took Love's field goal percentage and his shot reduction to show that he's not being a ton more inefficient, he just has less opportunities.

On the whole, I think that we still have to wait and see if Love can have as meaningful of an impact as Bosh did in Miami, as Bosh is clearly the superior defender. While this makes it a lot harder for him to be as useful, the chance is there. At worst, he's a bad defender and a great floor spacer because he warrants the respect of the defense. This won't show up on the boxscore, but Korver-esque gravity is nice stuff.

their recent form largely has to do with the improved defense, and this happened when shumpert came back and they were able to not play fringy guys for major minutes. we'll see how they do in playoffs though

The only thing about Cleveland that concerns me is that they picked up Perkins. Like...seriously? Its a net negative to have him on your team, even if you don't think he is gonna play, because he will jedi mind trick your coach into playing him.

seemed like a move the cavs just did because they couldnt find any easy assets to acquire

Dwayne Wade and D Rose come back from injuries completely differently.

I know the injury and I know some athletes like Wade and Bledsoe that deal with it. But Rose's leg issues are compounded on top of each other, and he's not exactly headstrong when he comes back from injuries. He might make it back to a high level quickly, but at this point I think the onus is on him to prove us wrong, not the other way around.

In other news, Lebron James is still the best player in basketball.
