I don't know about the protections on the 2 firsts they gave up but with no assurance that Dragic will re-sign at the end of the year, I feel like no one is recognizing that there's severe risk at play with this move. Am I on an island here?

edit: Oh shit I just noticed DJ got traded to OKC for RJ. I take that back. Just more focused on the fact that OKC finally got rid of gas face Perkins and got a good deal with Kanter

Am I on an island here? No, I think the trade is risky because 2 firsts is obviously a lot (also haven't seen anything about protections). I'm just saying that a core of Dragic/Whiteside/Bosh/Wade could potentially pull off a first round upset against a Toronto/Washington/Injured Chicago and do some damage. Dragic made statements before the deadline that he wanted to go to MIA/NYK/LAL and would only re-sign for those teams, so I'm assuming he made further assurances in private to the Heat organization that he would re-sign in Miami. Again depending on protections or whatever I think the Heat are basically saying they believe Dragic is an All Star level PG and that they'd rather bet on him than on 2 picks- because given the Heat are a playoff team it could be low teens/in the 20s and essentially they're saying that they don't think either of those 2 picks will become a top 10-15 PG like Dragic is. Reggie Jackson wants a starting position but DJ Augustin is a more consistent player, I don't see Stan benching DJ again just to make RJ happy. edit: Oh shit I just noticed DJ got traded to OKC for RJ. I take that back. Just more focused on the fact that OKC finally got rid of gas face Perkins and got a good deal with Kanter I don't hate the Twolves trade because the Young thing is a sunk cost and I think that as you're not really trying to win games anyway getting KG back in a TWolves jersey before he retires and maybe instilling some wisdom in the younguns is worth Young. I don't hate the trade for Kanter because they didn't really give up much but he isn't really the best fit either, would much rather see them get a Chandler type Defense/rebounding/roll hard to the hoops type guy to play alongside Ibaka who basically became a midrange shooting big, but I guess there weren't really any of those up for trade around now. A GM move that I think most people wouldn't even consider but I'd think about is going to the Nuggets and asking for Javale for the same price. I might be the last guy who believes in him lol but aside from the stupid shit he does he's an athletic freak and looked good that last year of Masai Nuggets, I'd take a chance on him turning it around for a new/better organization for Reggie Jackson, whom apparently the rest of the team hated and was gonna leave anyway. Not saying I'd have for sure pulled the trigger but I might have asked around for the price on Javale. I mean, if an organization can make the shit that OKC was trotting out before Westbrook/Durant came back work and develop all those young players into...something, maybe they could work magic on Javale too. as another aside I actually like the Sessions for Miller swap for Washington, Sessions' only real top NBA skill is getting to the hoop and I could see him doing well for the Wizards in a poor man's John Wall role where he just drives to the hoop at an insane rate of times per game and dishes it out to his teammates for midrange Js/corner 3s, he fits perfectly in that scheme anyway. edit- shit, rumors are saying that it might be a pulmonary embolism, confirmed that the hospital tests were for something involving his lungs. This really sucks, hope he's ok/it's not serious.

Am I on an island here? Miami plans to give him a max. Supposedly its gonna be a 5 year deal but I haven't heard more. Miami giving up 2 1sts is only bad if they could turn those players into better than Dragic level. Considering they have Wade/Bosh right now, and Whiteside looking good they wouldn't ever be landing near the lottery in 2017 (and 2021). Chances of them landing a star or good player with late picks and them developing in time before Wade retires = very low. The point of picks is to get good players - they got one now. The only issue is if the deal is 5 years or 4. Dragic at $20 mil per isn't going to gut them unless they somehow could've gotten Durant, Love, or another top tier player this summer. ETA: I actually think healthy Miami pre-Dragic was around the 5th best team in the East at worst. Now they would definitely be up there a tier below Atlanta/Toronto/Cleveland* because the bench is still bad. btw http://nypost.com/2015/02/19/how-uninspiring-carmelo-explains-james-dolans-idiocy/

However, I don't think they can offer him the 5 year max because they already gave it Bosh. I hope Bosh gets well soon. Blood clots are nothing to joke about, and I'm glad they caught them before something more serious happened.
