Both teams would easily make it out of probably any other group. Groups look really, really uneven to me. I was wondering about that too. USA, Sweden and Australia are top-10/world and Nigeria are African champions. Then you look at Germany's group and one game is 4-0 and the other is 10-0. Makes you wonder who's paying the drawers for the women's tournament haha.

Not sure about the players, but they haven't been super impressive in the time in between. Odds rankings are like: USA and Germany 3/1 or so each France and Brazil 7/1 or so each Japan 10/1 and Canada 10/1 or so each Sweden 12/1 or so then like England and Norway at 25/1

Also Nigeria got the equalizer 87' for 3-3 draw.

They have insane programs with the same robotic level of training and shit with kids that are promising sent into mountains and all from an early age to live ascetic lifestyles and get groomed for It just hasnt worked. It was a big story around the 2002 WC that they would be a real force (atleast in Asia) doing this but it seems to have fizzled out and failed miserably. Maybe their priorities have shifted in that period though. I try to be as objective as possible although confirmation bias is hard to avoid. Its a very simple process, but the real issue is that everyone parameters seem to be different. World cups seem to be a really big deal when I think winning a Euro is way harder and of more value in terms of rating how good a team or player is. World cups wins, what a joke of an argument really. Its literally presented as an argument because everyone knows its a scarce opportunity thing to win. No one even gives a shit about international football most of the time and its not even of the same caliber. But yeah I suppose there really is no point in being logical about things when people's minds are made up about something. People like what they like I guess.

Chinese national team has the problem with corruption. Not the best get called but the ones with the best connections/money. Interesting that may well be true. I did hear from a friend that alot of the lower level coaches push favourites to make names for themselves. Basically if everyone sucks and your guy is better by virture of better support its easier to stand out. There is plenty of corruption in China in most sectors but its kinda institutionalized and doesnt tend to affect most of the performance, not too much anyway. Usually if it starts affecting performances then the Govt tends to put its foot down, if things are going well they dont mind people stuffing their pockets. Call it an informal bonus if you will. Thats my experience working with China atleast.
