He was also the most fouled last year. 32 fouls by December. I'm not one for conspiracy theroies but the Marca sponsored BS has taken it to the next level since 2013 with respect to reputation bashing. Now this whole Luis Enrique - Messi thing. Its actually pretty disgusting, if you let it bother you. Admittedly Neymar is easier to bring down, hes weaker and like I said doesn't benefit from the low center of gravity or strength Messi has, he also relies more on fancy footwork to make space which means more people taking a kick at him to tackle. Messi makes everyone look like children and just runs past them so hes harder to foul one on one. So its a playstyle thing aswell to a large degree Thing is if he is such a diver, refs wouldve have stopped buying it a while ago. Also at the cost of sounding apologetic and I say this alot. You have no fucking idea how annoying it is to get your heels, clipped and kicked when all you want to do is play football. I mean come how can you condone stuff like in the United game vs Southampton on set pieces. And its shocking to me that its routine. Smalling would get booked for sexual assualt with the stuff he did to Pelle and not a whistle. That is just as bad as Spanish refs if not worse. At the end of the day, you go to Europe or major international tournaments. That shit gets called and now you have to play outside this comfort zone you've developed based on mma grapples rather than actual reading of the play and positional strength, This is also why your Charlie Austins and Andy Carrolls (and in general West Ham) are doing so well this season, but thats just part of it and I digress. There is this super British colonial bravado in being "honest, and physical" its an atrocious double standard. Im not fan of diving at all but I am equally against the use of rugby tackles in football, and no one seems to mind that, and for me that is wayyyyy more toxic than people going down to tackles. Believe me for every time a talented player goes down hes probably taken half a dozen kicks to the shin and the ankles, that hurt like fuck and dont get called.

Many people is just unfair with him, they saw him to dive in a match, but they don't see the whole season of la liga and the absurd amount of fouls he receives. Yesterday match, he received so many hits from atletico players that it was disgusting to watch. PD: Spanish referees sucks hardcore.

Anyway as a striker I agree with Rebs, you kkinda learn to been mean yourself for protection. Or dive. Neither do the game any favours.

I'll concede the Neymar point because I do in fact not watch La Liga too much nowadays, but I'll be devil's advocate to your stats: Just because you get fouled a lot, doesn't mean you aren't a diver that's often looking to go down. (Also, wouldn't every occasion where he's deemed to have been fouled result in a foul? Meaning those fouls could just as easily have been dives.) Jack Wilshere gets fouled a ton because his play-style invites it (though for his health's sake, he should stop it), but that doesn't mean he rolls five times in the grass after escaping a tackle. @Pande: I think Hazard was the most fouled player of the last PL season. Pretty sure you posted something along those lines before.

There's no set precedent to continuously give penalties for it, even though it's a foul. Yeah referees need to be way stricter with cards and I really can not understand how anyone can say "x player should not be off because there was no intent behind it" (when it was a red card offence). You think the player with a broken leg cares if it was intentional or not? Also stupid fanboyism should not matter in these cases. If Pepe had done the same fouls Messi did yesterday everyone would be crying slaughter but since it was by Messi it is ok? Wth, just because Messi is a godly talented footballer does not mean he can go injure other players. One further excuse I hate so much is "but x player from the opposing team should have been sent off for that foul too then". Just because the other team got away with it your favourite player/team should too? The correct way to act would be "yes x should be off but y too" and not "eh y got away with that, so x should as well". But fanboyism really goes so far that it does not matter to them at all. God nothing pisses me off more than injury inflicting fouls (and as a result more diving) or like NJ said wrestling on set pieces. It ruins the sport so much. And I can't stand any excuse regardless of player or team. I would not be a fan of Japan football if they started playing like that.

I couldn't agree more. We need a panel that reviews games, and bans players who do this stupid shit, a la the NHL. You know why Charlie Adam puts Alexis in a chokehold? Or why Raheem Sterling punches people? Or why players molest each other on every set piece? Because they get away with it. The panel needs to have the power to ban players regardless of whether or not the referees "saw" it during the match. Fuck "undermining their authority." If the referees state that they saw these transgressions during matches, but did nothing about it, they aren't doing their job, and someone needs to do it for them. He was, and he is again this season, getting fouled three times per game according to whoscored.com. Neymar is the fourth most fouled in La Liga. Nastasic has been loaned to Schalke with an option to buy, since after his impressive first season at City, he disappeared off the face of the Earth under Pellegrini. I can't believe Arsenal weren't in harder for him. He's a hugely talented center back, only 21, already a proven commodity in the PL, and he isn't cup-tied as he hasn't made an appearance in the CL yet this season. Exactly what the club needs. Ugh.
