I can imagine that RedBull Leipzig will be a top3 bundesliga team in 5 years.

Which wouldnt change the lack of good football clubs in eastern germany. This "club" essentially had to be forced by the DFL (germany football league organisation) to allow membership for people who are not affiliated with redbull iirc.
But then again, if the traditional clubs in the region (of saxony in particular) continue to fail, I dont think I can blame the people there for being happy to finally see some topclass football next to them.

I don't know why Red Bull is so obsessed with putting their name on everything, can't they just put a huge sponsorship logo on the middle of the jersey and call it a day?

Not as bad as Emre Can getting a yellow for arguing with the ref and a second for diving : /

Smalling's first yellow was pretty stupid though. What was he thinking on that one?

Hey I don't really know where else to ask this but do you guys know what the banned technique where you juggle the ball and never let it drop during play is called? I'm trying to find a video of it but I can't remember what it's actually called.

You mean Kerlon's famous seal dribble?

All the hate against RB Leipzig is a bit hypocritical coming from fans of Bundesliga clubs, considering most successful west german clubs have much better economic circumstances than clubs in the east ever had in the time since reunification.

How were eastern german clubs supposed to establish themselves against competitors that were decades ahead when it came to marketing and had a functioning economic environment? (Bayern's dominance is proof how powerful this combination is, Munich is perhaps the most thriving German city)

Only unusual means like a RB sponsorship have a good chance to change that.

Its their marketing strategy and it seems to work. I dont know how getting bombarded by red bull everyday gets people to buy that stuff but well...

Right so after the Chelsea vs QPR game, Mourinho criticised Chelsea fans for not being very loud and to relaxed during the game. This was rightly so, the fans that game were pretty lacklustre after the first 10 minutes. Then when we scored they all kind of sat back and just chanted every now and then. After QPR equalized, QPR fans sang for the rest of the game and it pretty much felt like an away game for Chelsea. Thus the criticism from Mourinho saying the team switched off due to the crowd switching off. Cue the mass hysteria everywhere in Chelsea. Some people raging that they do what they want as they pay for their own tickets, others agreeing with Jose. Some people pointing to other things as the problem. I won't go into details about some of the things said because they will cause a shitstorm However there is one thing we need to address in England.

Ticket prices.

Ticket prices in England top division for the "big" clubs are stupid. I will like to point everyone to this article;
Why Dortmund?
The 9th paragraph sums it up.
"We jump on the Channel Tunnel train," says Matthew Gerrard, from Kent. "We make a weekend of it. With tickets, accommodation, transport, this trip will cost £65. When you think it cost me £51 to see the Arsenal game last season, you can see the benefits."

The fact is in England the reason home games are dull and lacklustre is due to the pricing market for the "bigger" teams in England. Chelsea away support i know first hand is unreal, singing for 90 minutes and the biggest fun i have ever had. But like we discussed if you are not in the MHL stand it can literally like being at the opera or ballet with high society. But when it costs £60+ a ticket to get into the ground then add in tube and rail costs to get just inside london your looking at a £100 day out. So the fans for every home game are just a bunch of tourist type fans. The ones every club needs to help the bank balance but the ones that take away the atmosphere.

Due to this comment from Mourinho this was also released today;

Just my monday morning rant

This actually feeds in reassembly nicely to the discussion we where having about why Dortmund can't be a European powerhouse like Munchen. I really hope Dortmund fans and the club are proud of having cheap affordable ticket prices and producing such an amazing match day atmosphere. My legs not good enough to travel right now but if I ever get better enough to I would love to travel to Dortmund and experience the atmosphere.

English clubs do some things right and one of those things from the clubs point of view is producing a lot revenue from relatively small match day attendances. But this does hurt the fans it does hurt the atmosphere and it’s not only a positive thing for the club. The sport is so dominated by money and money is important there’s no denying this. But it shouldn’t be the only thing that matters to the clubs.

In the UK we need bigger stadiums with cheap sections so everyone can go and afford to watch their local team once in a while not just rich tourists from outside the region. It might be worth having special stands with cheaper seating in certain areas where only people who live within a certain radius of the club are allowed to come. This would produce areas of good local support which might in turn produce a better atmosphere. These seats in these sections should also be rotated through everyone who applies for tickets so everyone locally gets a chance to see at least one match cheaply inside these special areas.

Off course the problem with my solution is that there is just no incentive for the clubs to do it. It’s costly to build new stands and stadiums and they would want to make the most money they possibly could out of new stands once they where completed. Bringing in a system like this on existing seating with no stadium expansion would of course reduce revenue. So something like this is never likely to happen. Especially with the clubs trying to squeeze every penny they can to comply with Fair Play rules.

(I see your rant and will match it)

Haha yeah got to love the rants.
Yeah i agree Greg, bigger stadiums with proper sections. Hell even a standing seater stadium would be good too.

Needs addressing for sure though. I love singing and shouting at games.

It’s been while since I've been to a football game in UK. (Last game I attended was FC Seoul Vs Daegu). But when I used to go down to Exeter City I always sat/stood in the terrace and the atmosphere was always great despite the fact we sucked and there where never more than 4,000 people in the stadium. There are definitely some positive points to be said for terraces. However the safety issue does have to be addressed. I am not the right person to analyse how safe it is and what should be done. But we never want to se another Hillsborough.

Even Bayern, as one of the most powerful clubs in Europe economically, has affordable ticket prices for their standing area tho, I think it's around 15€ for a Bundesliga match. Not enough of them in my opinion, and I don't know how many of them are publicly available and how many are sold as season ticket, but they are still there.

LigaCup 2007 semifinals at Düsseldorf stadium. Bayern vs Bremen and Schalke vs Karlsruhe. 7€ for both games together!
I was there because I wanted to see Klose, Luca Toni and Ribery (first season for them). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_DFL-Ligapokal
