I'm sure someone who is more versed in Spanish history could explain it better but here is my take. Barcelona has always been a very successful PR tool for Catalan separatists. A lot of money has been pumped into Barcelona over the years because the people over there realized that having the whole world watch and cheer for Catalan flags being waved around brings a lot of sympathy with it. Then again you have Espanyol who are more than happy to be a Spanish club, yet the rich people and politicians in that region just don't like them.
On the other hand you have Bilbao, which brings out the romantic in every guy that likes his local club. Ask anyone and they will tell you nothing would make them happier than their local club to nurture local talent, and invest heavily in the local community. In this way we see the difference, while Barcelona helps their region through PR, star power and tourism. Bilbao is practically a manifestation and celebration of the community itself.
edit: Though maybe there isn't much philosophy to it in the end. Everybody wants to be rich, you can take the filthy rich route by 'evolving' or plain rich route by 'we will stick to the family recipe'.

edit: In Serbia I can't even watch my own league on a terrestrial channel, no it has to be on a differante cable provider than the one I've got. At least my one has the EPL on it, it just pisses me off that I can't watch away game of my local club on tv.

Are you living in Germany? Sky Bundesliga is avaliable for 25€/month without any negotiation, the best offer i heard of is sky complete for 35€ - i currently have bundesliga+sport(cl) for 25€/month - just talk with them on the phone and you will get that offer, which is ok imho.
I'm curious, how much is bpl/la liga/serie a/ligue 1 in your countrys?
|
I have never seen that sky offer la liga and/or bpl. Only 1 or 2 random matches weekly from bpl. Predecessors "Premiere" offered so much better for football fans. I pay 29,90€ for bundesliga+CL with HD quality.
Edit: I am sure bundesliga can go FreeTV in germany too if it has more viewers. 1,1mio (according sky) isnt much in a 80mio country.

I'm curious, how much is bpl/la liga/serie a/ligue 1 in your countrys? well the last guy that tried to sell it to me said it was free the first X months then it would be 35 p.m. and 10 for the receiver so 45 . that includided bundesliga and the basic package. it does not include all other sports, nor does it include the movie package I might try to negotiate on the phone if that works 25 € p.m. including a receiver would still be a lot for basically watching 2-3 hours a week but I could live with it
to the poster above me: Bundesliga hasnt always been paytv only but premiere and sky are having a heavy grip on it and I cant see that changing in the near future. The freetv only concentrates on the DFB Pokal and some games from the champions league.
one of the swiss channels (SF2) that you sometimes get in germany broadcasts all of the champions league though, so at least that works (with better commentary than zdf /ard as well)
also I should say that most of the times Sky advertises bundesliga as 25 per month, but thats only for people who already have sky /ppl who also get the basic sky package. So you dont actually get just bundesliga for 25 because you cant just buy that and not have the basic package

I hate the inflexibility of pay-tv over here. I got no TV but would pay around 15-20€ a month to watch only Bundesliga online. They have Sky Go but it's not available without a receiver which I obviously have no interest in. So for a whole year (34 matches of my favourite team + whatever random matches I watch) I would have to pay like 300€ and have a receiver standing around. And then I compare that to other sports and see that I could see 80+ matches of my favourite nba team for a third of that price online.

So it seems to obe official that James Rodriguez goes to Real for 80 million.
In retrospective Real made a really good deal with Ronaldo i mean what would he cost with todays prizes? A billion?
So Di Maria will go for sure? Man i really hope Bayern takes a shot at him he is such a consistant great player.

Rodriquez in Di Maria out , here I thought Barca were being silly with the Suarez transfer. Oh well gotta sell those shirts I guess.

At least with Barca you can argue that Suarez is an upgrade over Sanchez. Not that it makes the transfer much better though. On the other hand I don't think anyone believes Rodriguez to be better than Di Maria.

Real Madrid have signed Colombian star James Rodriguez from Monaco in a £63million deal
Overnight, Mats Hummels has been backed in to 1/6 to join Manchester United this summer, despite Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp claiming reports suggesting a £16m deal has been agreed are "garbage."
La Liga champions Atletico Madrid have now confirmed on their website that Tiago Mendes is staying at the club for two more seasons.
Chelsea have been backed in to 13/8 favourites to sign Antoine Griezmann this summer, pushing PSG out to 3/1, while Tottenham have drifted to 7/2.
Bad news for Juventus new-boy Alvaro Morata, who has suffered a knee injury in training just two days after sealing his £15.8million switch from Real Madrid

No way that Hummels is gonna join Manchester United of all clubs.
|
Top 5 CB worldwide who is still bound another 3 years for £16m. Sure ManU. If you put Mata and Shaw on top we could talk about that.
|
With the amount of money that Monaco owner pumped into buying players I can't believe he is making a profit on some of them and as a bonus, CL.
But 80 million.... idk, usually a player needs a prolonged period of hype in a big league to get to that number...

He is still 23 though, Rodriguez that is. I mean if he signed for Chelsea for that price i wouldn't be saying it's a waste. Even if he doesn't become Ronaldo level he is still going be say what, Fabregas/Lampard type scoring midfielder for me.
