He is only 30 he could of played the Euros then bowed out. I guess he chooses now and what not. Oh well, good career and capped off with the World Cup, GG maybe he thinks that his physical condition is declining, really smart move to leave at the top of his career

With Klose retiring soon or being to old to play, there is nobody to convert crosses anyway =D

I am truely shocked, noone saw that comming. I mean the dude would be 32 and 34 at the next EURO and WC, he would have played it easiely. His last big injury was a torn ACL 2005(!) so health isnt it and he isnt someone who is reliant on his physical ability. Hes the best player on that team overall and right now there is no alternative for him as right back, this is a big blow. He also stated that this will be his last contract (until 2018) which means he would retire with 34. Man Pirlo was out of the youth academy at this age.

There is no better moment to stop after a wc-win. It can't get better. And by announcing it that early he makes sure that the team/staff/etc have enough time to analyse the situation and come up with new ideas.

Right now i am only seeing either Grosskreuz or playing with 3 CB. 2 Years is not a lot of time for a position that is super important and super rare in highest level football.

Sky like to make news stories that don't really exist sometimes. They where reporting that Rooney was 'training separate from the rest of the England team' as a headline during the World Cup as if there had been a big bust up or something. Then when I watched the whole report what had really happened was he had trained with the team and then was doing a bit of extra shooting practice on his own afterwards, what ridiculous journalism.

Yeah but it might of been a friendly word from Giggs to Rio, then Rio told Harry that he had chance to stay at Yanited if giggs was in charge etcetc. But it's the right decision, Rio is to old and slow and is a liability now. He didn't do nothing last year to warrant another year contract, unlike JT for example who was in the best defense in the league ![]()
