why not? he coaches them to tons of 1 goal wins that only happen because price stands on his head for 40 shots a night. part is roster construction but they get outshot with regularity.
speaking of pissing away possession, what the fuck was with the Rangers and those dumps all game. I get mixing it up esp in the face of a trap but the Rangers were doing that even when they had clear lanes unless it was Hagelin or maybe Kreider carrying the line.
also once again the goaltending was fantastic in this game.

For the most part it's the roster. How many players on their roster are elite scorers? How many bounces, chances, posts have the Habs hit? Quite a few. The Habs get the job done by committee and they have been pretty solid. The 0-3 is a bad indicator of that.
If you were the coach Hawk what would you change in terms of their system to generate more chances. MT is a good coach and I have no problem with how he's addressed the media or his team for that matter.

this more or less outlines my thoughts on how they play and why it's so predictable. basically the canadiens preferred method of zone entry is to carry and quickly put it on from the outside, hopping that it's deflected, screened, or the goalie coughs up a rebound to the crashing forward. this is a) low percentage and b) means you quickly give up the puck for a counter attack more often than not c) it's easily defendable as outlined in the article. If they don't do that the #2 option tends to be dump and chase, which is another playstyle that tends to concede possession. Plus both of these styles of play are very susceptible to counter attacks, where as working the puck around in the zone isn't so much as long as you don't cough it up at the blue line.
obviously the dump and garbage goals have a place in hockey, every teams use it at times just like everyone uses the trap at certain times. but as evidenced by the team stats with Therrien at the helm, his teams have always relied on this style of play to the point where it's a detriment. It's inefficient and puts far more stress on the defense and goalie than necessary. Can it win you games at times? Obviously. But against fast and deep offensive teams like TBL allowing them to have the puck 65% of the game
as I mentioned, I do think part of the issue is roster construction, esp in the bottom six. Virtually all the good teams run very good scoring thirds. Meanwhile, the Habs traded their potentially good scoring forward for yet another plugger. But the top six is not great but certainly good enough to do things a little bit more creative than what's outlined above. That's my point. And especially with guys like PK and Markov, they've got excellent blue line support to do more creative stuff. There's no reason the top two lines can't play with thep uck more the way teams like Chicago and Minny have been doing this post season. The skill is there, and doing so will lead to better opportunities and less time in their own end.

I hope the Habs lose because they and their fans suck donkey genitalia.

Well we didn't get swept, think we used all our offense for the rest of the series though.

Parenteau has replaced Briere in Therrien's doghouse since they have been traded. I wouldnt set my hopes too high about him staying in the line up.
Plus Therrien is a bum. He likes gritty guys who have character... i.e. not what Parenteau brings to the table...

THERRIEN NOT SOFF
again, part's due to their bottom six being all shitty, but I also think it's also kind of shitty because Therrien loves guys like DPS and Prust. PA's a top 6 guy playing on a checking third when he's actually in the line up, and then people wonder why he's not putting up more points when Prust is trying to punch in Parenteau's one-timers.
|
well he is a redundant player on mtl's roster; there are other smurfs who are already better than him on the top 6... Also Parenteau is the kind of guy that got lucky to play with Tavares and earn a large contract because of that (imo)

Over under on the Habs not winning a Stanley cup for a period of 39.5 years? It's been 22 so far once they get knocked out, so do you think they'll go another 18 years or less?

that's what the Rangers do. passing ad nauseum. it worked really well in the regular season, 3rd most goals for all year, but in the playoffs when there's less space on the ice it feels like John Tortorella is coaching them again. glad they managed to push it to game 6 but they're not going to keep winning with 18 goals in 10 games.

the caps did play to hold the blue line and then collapse out front a ton more this game but goddamn if it doesnt look like they cant score for shit

Decent game in the habs/Tampa, it felt like the habs had more hustle and will to win, which in turn gave them the W

If they can make some of those 13 shots on goal in the first ten minutes get into the net, and play with a lead, they can win game 6 and King Henry doesn't lose game 7s, but if they're in another drag out, one goal game, I don't see them winning in Washington.

Still alive woohoo
