On his own -- useless except in tournaments like the world cup when Canada sends a B team ovechkin, outside of last year, has been very dominant in the playoffs as well, despite having a much less talented team and some brutal coaches the past couple of years. No he has not. He has racked up points against the lowly Rangers and other such teams while sheltered by the South East Division. He has never carried his team in an elimination game. The high point of his relevance came in 09 when he gutted out exactly one game against Crosby in game 6, then he and the rest of the caps folded like Russians do at any Olympic hockey event when playing against a good team. | ||

When it comes outright goal-scoring, there aren't many better. But if I were assembling a team of the top players in the league, I'm not sure he's on it. Hell, if I want a defensive liability who cheats on offense, I think I might rather have Patrick Kane. I have really nothing to add here. I think Ovechkin is a good player but it depends on your definition of what that means. If your template is Jonathan Toews, then Ovechkin would be terrible by that metric. If your template is Brett Hull, then Ovechkin is pretty good. | ||
