The Finns are good at their particular turtle style and it seems to me like the Swedes are a lot more vulnerable than they look -- although its hard to tell, against Slovenia in the first 2 periods it looked like the Swedes were sleeping walking but then they woke up. Even Canada hasnt looked that convincing: but I guess its hard to get up for a game against Latvia.

a better question is, why is there no F-18's in the picture?

Ya, when surrounded by superior Canadians and Americans he can play better. On his own -- useless except in tournaments like the world cup when Canada sends a B team ovechkin, outside of last year, has been very dominant in the playoffs as well, despite having a much less talented team and some brutal coaches the past couple of years. No he has not. He has racked up points against the lowly Rangers and other such teams while sheltered by the South East Division. He has never carried his team in an elimination game. The high point of his relevance came in 09 when he gutted out exactly one game against Crosby in game 6, then he and the rest of the caps folded like Russians do at any Olympic hockey event when playing against a good team.

Since you have totally convinced me that Malkin and Ovechkin arent massive chokers incapable of elevating their games in key matches I have to assume that they both had double hattricks on an easy Russian win against a Team Finland that didnt have its first two starting centers playing right? It was 6-1 or something like that for Russia right? It wasnt a pathetic choke job in which the only Russia who showed up for the whole tournament was named Pavel Datsyuk? Right? do u read what i write? if so check my prediction. i said MIGHT medal .. and NO GOLD.for Team Russia. i've also stated taht in an event with teams so closely matched up BO1's do not prove much. you need a BO7 to prove anything. this fact is reflected in the very close betting odds for this tourney. Glenn Healy identified Russia's biggest problem in this event and i discussed it in an earlier post.

When it comes outright goal-scoring, there aren't many better. But if I were assembling a team of the top players in the league, I'm not sure he's on it. Hell, if I want a defensive liability who cheats on offense, I think I might rather have Patrick Kane. I have really nothing to add here. I think Ovechkin is a good player but it depends on your definition of what that means. If your template is Jonathan Toews, then Ovechkin would be terrible by that metric. If your template is Brett Hull, then Ovechkin is pretty good.
