I didn't see a thread on this so I wanted to make one to see some discussion on it if anyone has first-hand experience or knows about this stuff because its becoming a really big fad and getting a lot of popularity.
The supplement really became famous when professional athletes like Ray Lewis and Vijay Singh were allegedly linked to using it to help recover quicker.
+ Show Spoiler [What is Deer Antler Velvet?] +Deer Antler Velvet is a supplement, most commonly taken orally via spraying under the tongue but sometimes via capsule. It is essentially a growth hormone called insulin growth factor or 'IGF-1".
Basically what I wanna know is if anyone can shed some light on if this is worth spending money on, any adverse side-effects, or reasons that people should or should not take it ^^

Don't mess with your hormones. 99.99% of the time it will end up poorly.

It's a scam, IGF-1 cannot be absorbed by the body if taken orally, you need to inject it. In Marc Lobliner's vid on Deer antler velvet he basically says Ray Lewis is an idiot for buying some crap that doesn't even work, and he SELLS the product.

Placebo works though... so it could still have potential positive effects.

Hm alrighty I won't waste my money then? I was reading different articles and comments on YouTube and saw tons of people saying it worked wonders for them and how the Chinese have been using it for a thousand years etc

lol You get this with almost any product. See homeopathy or something. You will always have people thinking it works.

Assuming your body would actually be able to absorb the substance, which it can't, HGH and IGF-1 doesn't seem to do very much(if anything at all) even if you take huge amounts through injections, and there's a few nanograms in that spray.

I wonder why they would take the time to set up all these antler farms and produce a product that does absolutely nothing... I mean once people find that out isn't all their money wasted? It doesn't make much sense from a company stand-point.
|
I don't think they have specific farms just for antlers, likely they just buy the antlers from existant deer farms. Deer antler velvet has been around for a pretty long time, maybe 20(?) years or so, and I've heard people saying it didn't work back then aswell. So there have been doubts around this product for quite some time yet people are still buying.
In the end you buy what you want I guess. If you believe in Deer antler velvet then go ahead and try it, but my opinion is that said product is bullshit.

Horny Goat Weed along with stuff like Divinil, supplements usually marketed as hormonal to some extent, are mostly harmless and oftentimes entirely reliant on ones' tendency to experience placebo effects (some people seem more "hard headed" if that makes any sense). Still, they have been shown to exhibit relatively minor but noticeable changes in hormone levels in some people, so they aren't simply to be taken willy nilly nor until one is at least 21-22. In general, if a drug has a pronounced effect on ones' hormones, it is likely prescription only and accordingly difficult to come upon or fake.

100% of all pills, potions, and powders are not for your benefit. The things that work for your benefit are usually not advertised IE Fruits, Vegetables, Rest and Relaxation. It is funny and sad at the same time that people will buy pills, potions and powders but complain that Organically grown food is too expensive.

Powdered protein is fine, don't be scared. Organic food is good too.
