I've been to Camp Nou and don't really think its that much of a dump, idk.
Chelsea on the other hand has a stadium less than half the size of Barcelona's, we earn £26m less than Arsenal and £41m less than Manchester United in matchday revenue. Sometimes I get the feeling my children's children will one day be whining about how yet another stadium plan was shat on by some London council dick... sigh

Surgeons and Drs get peanuts for the work they do and these footballers for playing a game they love and we like get this kind of money for entertainment? Yes, this world is broken xD Don't forget was about 50 years ago when people who were footballers used to pretend they were plumbers and builders when they were outside clubbing/parting trying to get females. Now it's the opposite. I do agree your point though, the reason this money can be "thrown around" is due to the TV rights going through the roof and sponsorship deals being that way inclined. However, there has been NO discussion ever of wage caps to stop this sort of stuff or to limit what goes on. FFP is only half of the problem and with a million loop holes in that system it won't work. I've said it before, players are just getting their part of the share. If doctors and scientists produced the same capital and fanfare that footballers did, they'd be getting paid the same amount of money as footballers do.
Yeah i can understand that it is a three way thing. Sports Business and Entertainment but i mean in terms of where outside people value this, im pretty sure 99.9% of the world value Drs and Surgeons above Messi. (the 0.1% clear is Steveling )

woops redevelopment. Bizzare though, 500m redevelopment is insane! That is more than the alianz arena cost to build! :/
@Pandemona, I know it is a tourist attraction and the stadium is certainly big, but I wasn't as impressed by the stadium as I had expected to be, especially not sitting at the bizarre height I was watching the game at. To me the best stadium is the Porto stadium, which is just the right size for everyone IMO.

It doesn't. I saw your 500m number and just assumed new Stadium, but for redevelopment that is certainly very questionable.

Haven't been/seen the Porto stadium, might have to have a look next time i go to Portugal. Hmm, i always thought the Nou Camp was the best due to sheer impressive size? I guess not. Isn't it though when your sat in the gods you still have a decent view or is it bad? Like Wembley is 90k but even in the 3rd tier it is a great view. I was sat in corporate seats for FA Cup final which was the 2nd tier and it was like being on the pitch it was great seats and the stadium just looked awesome. I thought the Nou Camp was like that? xD

Nou Camp is the reason some tourists go to Barcelona. I know thats the only reason i want to go is to experience that. Yeah i also do know they had stadium rebuild REJECTED and are now going to "redevelop" camp Nou. WHY?! lolol Anyway, yeh Beater, i think our Juan is gone makes me sad, but also happy that he will be able to play and might be able to supply RVP and Rooney with some goals to make the rest of the pack drop points :D Just really hope Rooney can come save us next season xD
Were you ever in camp Nou? I watched a Barca home game a couple of years ago and it was a phantastic atmosphere but besides that Camp Nou is not a "good" or better sayed "modern" arena. Stadiums like Allianz Arena or Emirates are just better at things like merchendising areas, food or space for the media. It was build in 1954 and you have to modernise it someday and like some others already pointed out it is a pretty good time to get big building projects approved these days in spain.
Also i think the 500 million are not only CampNou it is for some other prjects too like a new arena for Barca II with 10.000 seats it think.

It's weird how I have a better view of the pitch from the top of Camp Nou, than when I go to 15k capacity dumps here in Serbia.

You get a bizarre view of the field and watching tiki-taka from that height was enjoyable in it's own way, but I struggled to distinguish many players. I'll see if I can find some pictures.
Anyway I've never been to Wembley, would certainly love to go there but I think finding a game is much more difficult than for Nou camp

It certainly felt cramped, that was something surprising to me as well. I didn't want to say this in fear of sounding too biased but it felt like De Kuip was bigger haha.

I guess the Nou Camp is a lot less steep than Wembley? If you're that high up you're pretty far away from the pitch as well. Granted I've never been there, just outside the stadium once lol. When it comes to upgrading the current stadium, you gotta keep in mind that this is a development that will make sure the stadium will last another 50 years. At some point, it has to be modernized. It has been in use since 1957. I'm sure they've added some things in the last 57 years, but still, an investment like this is great for the future. They'll probably also add a lot of space for shops and shit to the entire complex. There's gonna be return revenue from this.
Oh and when it comes to Messi, you guys are forgetting there are thousands of surgeons in the world, there is only one Lionel Messi. When deciding if footballers earn too much (they probably do) I think it's a bad example. Yeah I do value Messi higher than one (1) surgeon lol.

Yeah the only time you will get a Wembley ticket with ease is for a England game as no one wants to pay to watch them haha xD

even if that one (1) surgeon would save the lives of your loved ones?
Yeah I don't think so.

Because we have such a surplus of surgeons, right? You make it sound like being a surgeon is an easy job. It's more stressful and less rewarding than being a football player.
It's so easy to write "I value Messi higher than one surgeon" if you have never been in a situation where it mattered.

Yeah that should be fun Anyway all I can find from Nou Camp on my dropbox are the tour photo's, but no match photo's. I'll probably check later if I can find them.

Ok fair enough post them when you can. Oh also another stadium i have access to a lot is Old Toilet (Old Trafford to non scouse speaking folk) which again for its size is very impressive stadium and again being middle tier in our executive season ticket hospitality package we have with the company which we have to get rid of every game (yes as of now its hard to offer these tickets to customers LOL). But again being middle tier in an 80,000 seater stadium and seeing the players feel so close it pretty sick. I remember our first season we had it and it was Man utd vs Birmingham opening day and big Owen came off the bench to play the last 10 minutes and me and my brother were like haha GO ON OWEN LAD!! xD funny times. Haven't been up since then which was like 2009? or something? But again very impressive.

And it's oh so easy to take the moral (and very annoying) high ground here by arguing semantics like a fucking troll.
It's like comparing one surgeon to if Leonardo da Vinci should have existed or not. Lionel Messi (or C. Ronaldo for all I care) brings joy to millions of people around the world, making the world a better place, bringing people together with his skills. Joy and happiness is the best medicine for any human being. I think Lionel Messi has a 1000fold (or any other big number) bigger influence on the state of health/happiness in the world than one surgeon does.
I'm not even sure why I even have to explain it to someone as short-sighted as you. Especially the comment on 'if you have never been in a situation where it mattered'. How would you know? Get off the damn high horse and shut the fuck up.
Oh and for others: I think this only counts for those 2 players because they are exceptionally unique obviously. I obviously don't think a random David Miller from Man C or whatever his first name is is more important than a surgeon.

There are really good surgeons and then there's shit surgeons. Just like footballers.
