I think that Lewandowski has risen to prominence BECAUSE of fitting into Dortmund's playstyle. The same for a Mario Gomez. Some players just fit well at the head of a team because of the way it plays. Maybe he is multi-dimensional as a footballer Lewandowski is a second-tier striker. He belongs with the likes of Giroud, Podolski, Torres, Hernandez, Welbeck, Sturridge etc. That's where he would fit in the premier league. As a respectable striker who needs to be 'fit in' to a team. The top strikers like Aguero, Benteke, Suarez, Falcao, Ibrahimovic, RVP, Rooney don't need to be plugged into systems. They can score goals anywhere and in any team. IMO Lewandowski does no way belong in that conversation. That being said, for free transfer price is definitely a bargain so well done for Bayern for luring him over.

The thing is besides Torres and Rooney none of the players you mentioned won an international title. In these days at the highest levels the strikers aren´t mesured just by goals. Ask Mario Mandzukic, who was a mid level Bundesliga player two years ago and is very important right now. Lewandowski is maybe the best "defensive" striker right now which cant be under valued. Lewandowski is fantastic at holding long balls from the center defenders which is an extremly useful skill because it makes the team much harder to press. Against top teams you need to pres (if you want to do it) with at least 6 players. If the striker is able to control the long ball from the defenders you have to defend while running back in a 4vs4 setup against guys like Ribery, Robben, Götze or Reus, Mhikitarian and Aubermayang. You dont want to do that. For example the 1:0 in the cl final happened exacly that way, Mandzukic was ablos to controle a ball and get in a 4v4 situation.

At least let a good team snatch him from us. I'd like to see him in arsenal colours.

edit: Admittedly not the most difficult of passes given how disoriented the back line of tottenham was there.

What you say basically agrees with what I say, except we just differ in definition of what makes a player the best. You say it's titles, I say its their ability. Which is why I comfortably rate Benteke above Lewa. Lewa is one of those players who are referred to in the NBA as role players. He is a very good role player but he is not a michael jordan. Which is what the players I mentioned are, they are central players who put the team on their back. Same goes for Mario Gomez, who has a higher goals per game ratio than lewa and quite clearly is not a striker on the same level as suarez/ibrahimovic/falcao but played the role very well in that team. Lewa is a guy who can get results in a team where his role playing fits. I just don't see his game fitting into Chelsea's. We need people who can score from anywhere because long shots and multi-dimensionality are far more important in the English game, because the quality of the defenders is just higher on average. Drogba was basically the perfect player for us. Which is why Benteke would be perfect now, and maybe if he refines his game and gets mentally stronger, Lukaku.
