When I was first started I was like 155 lb at 5' 5", short stubby guy, lost weight to 140lb and was happy. I've worked myself from basically no muscle on my chest a year ago, bench pressing like 90 lbs with a struggle 3x5. I stopped at 115 lb, I could never get past the 4th rep on my 3rd set. Eventually I stopped going to the gym for a few months, and now I'm just getting back at it. This time with better nutrition (taking in the right amount of protein and trying out creatine). My squats and deadlifts are waaaay beyond what I have ever lifted. I left off at 125 lb squats (huge struggle) and 185 deadlift (couldn't even hold the bar), now I'm at 155lb squats and 225 deadlifts with no stalls in sight, makes me happy. Protein must go a long way. I was too cheap to buy my powder then, the most I'd ever get would be 50g - 60g worth of dethawed chicken breasts. Now I'm getting a nice 100 - 120g of protein on workout night along with creatine. Today was the biggest eye opener. I struggled with 115lb, 35 plates on each side. I hungered for the 45 lb plate status, but I never made it. After working myself from the bottom, doing it right this time around and not letting my ego get in the way (5 lb increments no matter what), I finally made it to the weight I left off at. The first two sets were easy, but I was still scared, I stalled on this weight three times. I blame it on poor nutrition, and poor weight management, I just wasn't ready for it going 10 lb increments at a time as a noobie. So I looked around and saw a guy who was gearing up for benches but they were all full. I kindly asked him: "Hey man you mind spotting me for a set?" "Sure" "Thanks man, I'm just going for 5" "Alright let's do it" I destroyed that last set, still no stall in sight. But it wasn't just a victory of the weight, but also the victory of the mind. I've had so much trouble dealing with those 35 plates, I was scared of them. Twice I was assisted by fellow worshipers in the Temple of Iron when I couldn't squeeze out that last rep , I wasn't afraid of going heavy on the squats at all, but the bench press terrified me. I felt like my maturity in this one year helped me out the most. going from college kid to a working adult pretty much. I followed the guidelines of well researched and experienced info I find on the web for what they are instead of alternating them and making my own terrible agenda. My horrible mistake as it turns out as I first started. Sure I finally fit my skinny jeans and fit in with the crowd that I was with, but times are changing and I'm about to move onto the next chapter of my life. So if I'm ever in doubt for my next bench press, just simply and kindly ask for a spot, no need to be shy.

Other than that I've got no idea. Did 235 for deadlift today, and should pull 240 on saturday. Day behind since the gym was closed for Labor Day, but otherwise everything is right on schedule.

yesterday back squat 4x5 @ 405 (knee feeling better everyday) Bench press 4x5 @ 185 (fairly light) So funny, all the regs i see at lunchtime gym at the office were in and everyone was laughing about how 2 months ago all 4 benches were always taken and now i've convinced everyone that it's a good idea to squat just by coming in every day squatting ~400 or so and now all the squat racks are taken and the benches are all open. I've probably got ~10 people to start adding squats to their weekly routine, most of em in their 30's or 40's and really need it to help their mobility and keep their joints healthy.

I did the Big but Boring variation (with slight differences, dropped the leg raises from DL day and the leg curls from squat day). Final sets were: OHP: 3x125lb (1RM before was 130) Deadlift: 2x325lb (1RM was 340) Dips: 2x BW+85lb (1RM was BW+95) Squat: 3x240lb (1RM was 255) All in all, happy to be doing doubles/triples at 95% of my 1 RM, was a good way to not tax recovery too much since I've been doing tons of farm work and martial arts the past month too.

Did it over 2 hours lol Probably could've done it way faster if I kept up with 10 per set but then I got greedy and burned out ![]()

He does 5x5 for bench press, I'm still doing 3x5. I was planning to just bravely struggle his routine with 120 lbs up from 115 lbs, 5 lb increments right? He was like hell no, you're doing 125, don't worry I got you bro. 5/5/5/5/5 Perfect the first 4 sets, slow bar on the very last rep. Mind was blown. Today was a good day. My goal of putting a plate on my bar for my bench press is not to far off...
