England Italy Russia are their last 3 games, which are good tests. I agree. Considering the intense competition within the team and the extreme expectations at home, Brazilian players can not play half-heartedly in games like this one.

Stepping up to take a penalty or getting through one on one with the keeps.
Couldn't agree more. I never watch international friendlies because if a team isn't playing for something, then the result doesn't matter to them.

I never watch international friendlies because if a team isn't playing for something, then the result doesn't matter to them. While I do see why you would say that, you can also make the case that having the pressure off the players will make them more relaxed and perform better, or at least more freely, leading to a more open, and thus, a more entertaining game. Obviously they wouldn't try as hard and wouldn't be as focused as they would be in a match that means something, but that doesn't mean friendlies are meaningless. Some, if not most players actually take playing for their countries seriously and give the best they can in that context. You would have to take it seriously in order to stake a claim in the side, in order to participate in future matches and tournaments that do matter. There's also the matter of national rivalries. No matter how you try to convince me that the players in a Brazil vs Argentina, or a England vs Germany friendly aren't trying, I wouldn't believe you.
I fully agree that it isn't the same for the players and the viewers without the tension and the pressure of having something on the line, and the absolute knowledge that the players are forced to giving 110%, but I disagree that that makes friendlies bore-fest by default or unworthy of watching. There are many examples of cracking friendly matches that showcased high quality football, as well as high quality entertainment. Brazil vs Argentina in the summer (where Messi scored a hattrick), England vs Sweden (with the Ibra overhead)... and many more.

that's actually just frustrating to me. Massively frustrating. I would be over the moon to see a 30 yard overhead kick or a hat trick in the actual world cup. The fact that the players HAVE the skill but that they crack under pressure and can't perform when it really matters is frustrating. That's why for example I really want Messi to take the step up and make some magic like Maradona who seemed to be impervious to pressure.

That stuff doesnt happen anymore. Or if it does itll be the greatest thing Ive ever seen.
Do you really think that at this level inbthe modern game a single player could by himself win a worldcup or really any tournament considering it hasnt really happened realistically before either ?
Maradona may have run rings around a bunch of beer guzlers a couple of decades ago but no team got carried to the worldcup, not even his. They were a decent if not great team.
And it is the world cup, sometimes all you need is a "decent" team and a couple of good results .. sometimes.

Doesn't matter what ranking you are, you get seeding as a top 8 team in the world cup as host. Hence in Euro 2012 Poland and Ukraine got seeded 1-4 and the likes of England Portugal Italy Germany were "unseeded" xD
Ukraine Poland Spain Netherlands
were the seeds for Euro groups

And the rankings for the most part as far as the WC is concerned arent to meaningful aside from making an interesting group or 2.
Which I guess is important enough in itself.

True pride is cool xD But i mean they need to take every friendly game serious anyway, work on tactics/formations etc make sure they give good account of themselves. If they beat Italy 2-0 instead of drawing 2-2 i would say they have turned a corner already under Scolari, but im affraid there defensive frailties again caused them to throw away a leading position (England game was much the same)

fuck portugal, losing 3-1 so far vs Israel...
phew 3-2, postiga scores at his 5th goal attempt

Still struggling in qualifying games it seems. No doubt you will make top 4 in the world cup again though. Good old Portuguese logic xD

Croatia - Serbia tonight. Way too much hype for this game in both countries, newspapers have been talking about this for months... No way can it live up-to this level of hype and be healthy

£1million says there is mass crowd problems throughout the game, prior to kick off and after the full time whistle? Will be like a civil war scene.
