My current housemate has said a lot of times about he he eats absolutely loads and just eats till he's full but doesn't put weight on. But living with him I've seen what he eats and his portions are about a quarter of mine. For me, and this is only anecdotal, but the overweight people I know just make their portions too large for what they do and the underweight people have portions too small. I guess it's just what you've gotten used to eating as a portion.
I have Crohn's, actually, and caloric intake has next to no impact on weight gain for me. My minimum maintenance diet is ~2k, and anything above that doesn't make a damn bit of difference. It's largely due to the fact that for me, remission just means asymptomatic, but still with all sorts of inflammation and whatnot.
My doctor agrees that it's very much worth a shot to stimulate nutrient absorption by encouraging putting on muscle mass, and they don't expect me to need to eat much more to avoid weight loss.
I'm NOT a normal case you can apply the usual standards to when it comes to nutrition. Crohn's doesn't even have it's own standards, doctors tend to ask you what works instead of telling you what to eat. Then they just run tests and suggest supplements.

Hopefully the weightlifting makes a difference!

That's true to an extent. But for someone with an actual disease affecting the way the body takes in and uses nutrients, it doesn't really apply.
And for your housemate, have him eat three times a day until he feels uncomfortable; until there are pains in his stomach and he feels like he's going to be sick. Then get him eating two more snacks that are ~500 calories each. It's the only way that I can put on weight without GOMAD.

Decaf is actually as much of a baller on the field as you would expect. No god damn fear, whether he's going against one guy or three, or if they're twice his size.
this was not a very "health and fitness" weekend. I spent more money on fast-food and alcohol in two nights than I typically would spend in two months. on the plus side, walking 5-10 miles a day and sleeping on the ground has made my hip, lower back and knee feel awesome. no idea how I came out of a rugby tournament feeling better than I went in to it.
Did manage to save enough money to get my shoes, mostly by leaving my debit card out of my wallet. once I get to a real pc, its time to order those adidas shoes! Don't like the Romano volt now that I have an actual look at it. does anyone have a suggestion for a gym bag? I've got too much shit to carry around now to put it in my school bag.
Haha thanks ^_^ Sucks i didn't get to catch one of your games or at least a beer with you, seems like we were on opposite sides of town all weekend. Get a rugby kit bag and use it for the gym, during season i just have all my gym and rugby stuff in there so its ready to go.
Our team lost in the club championship game in over time T_T We fucking demolished our first 3 teams something like 46-0 53-0 and 29-5 rofl. Was handily up like 24-7 in the championship game and pretty much everything went wrong and we lost 27-24 on a bullshit penalty in sudden death overtime. The ref called me offsides even though he said i was onside before the play, then he basically did a 360 and called me offsides 3 seconds later, even though it wasn't even relevant to the play. Whatever.
Todays workout: Snatched up to 127kg no misses, shoulder is tweaked though and couldn't lock out anything behind me on my left side. Went for 132kg pr for lulz but there was no way i was hitting it with my shoulder. I feel REALLY good getting under the bar, it's like i just decided to be faster and now my second pull is better and i'm flying under. Did some jerks off the rack up to 125kg but my knees and shoulder told me it was time to go home.

i, too, was one of the people who said "i eat a shit ton but i just have a great metabolism". i've gained 30 pounds in the past 5 months (could've gained a lot more if injuries blah blah blah) and it's now that i realize how little i ate. i literally ate nothing for breakfast, ate a sandwich for lunch, went home ate some rice, maybe a bag of chips and called it a day.
of course i didn't have intestinal disease or anything like that.

Id avoid that soy man, from what I've heard soy has stuff that inhibits the function of trypsin, which is used to absorb protien. ie soy inhibits protien absorption, amongst other things. You don't have to have some form of milk if you're lactose intolerant, you can just have your whey with water (though I prefer the taste of milk and whey) and get nutrients in milk from other sources for instance a meal with potatoes and fattier cuts of meat.

Fuck, I'm disappointed. I posted a video of my DL form the other day and received some advice. Tried to fix it today but damn it's so fucking hard. I kept pulling my hip up before my legs I hate it that I "learned" DL the wrong way and now I have to relearn the whole thing. I think I'll just deadlift more often with lighter weights until I get the movement fixed.

Lol :D Better to fix it now. Give snatching a try, you'll run into this problem more times than you can count ^_^

Well, I've been on SS for about 5 months now and have made some good progress. My legs have gotten HUGE since I've started. That is the most noticeable change to my body. My vertical has also increased a few inches. I can now touch the rim when before I could only touch the bottom of the backboard.
Starting weight 158 > 177
Squat 3x5x245 Press 3x5x122.5 Bench 3x5x197.5 Deadlift 1x5x275 Power Clean 5x3x145 Chins 3x5x45 Dips 3x5x65
Very pleased with the progress!

Been ill for about 1 week now, with 40 feber virus and headache. And I do feel me better today, so I might hit the gym later in this week
And stay strong people!

You guys ever tell someone else at the gym you don't know how bad their form is? This one guy today had me cringing on all of his exercises. Can't really imagining saying anything to him though, even though I was lifting twice as much as him.

Today I achieved what I thought I couldn't do DL 1x5 100kg.....such a good feeling and it wasn't as hard as I expected, good form (IMO) on the way no rounding of the back etc Also Squats are almost at 100kg as well will be doing 90kg on Monday so give it two weeks and I'll be squatting 100kg no problem :D Only thing stalling hard are my Bench and Press. Press is having a hard time breaking 45kg with good form and i'm meant to do 80kg on bench on Friday and 77.5kg was sooooo hard. Not sure how it's going to go.
Loving SS, my mate at 67kg BW is now squatting 77.5kg, benching 65kg and DL 100kg as well. Such good progress for us both :D

I don't mean his form is so bad it will eventually lead to a back injury, I mean he will injury himself next to you while you stand there.
Nobody likes being told their technique is poor and they don't listen 99% of the time, so the only time I tell anyone is when I feel like I'll have a guilty conscience if they hurt themselves and I saw it coming and did nothing. For example, the one guy was deadlifting 150kg with his arms slightly bent the whole time, yanking the weight from the floor using his biceps. I didn't want to see a torn bicep so I told him, he ignored me but I didn't feel worried after that, since I did what I could.

Like, I'm 6'6 and he's at least 5 inches taller than me. I'd say he weighs 260 pounds if not more. A fucking behemoth of a man. Anyways, he deadlifts about 650 pounds but does it with a camel back. Has been doing so since he was a kid.

But in that case it was obvious that they were glad to get some help.
Other than that yeah, I don't bother.
