Hit the gym today - was informed by a gym employee that indeed, I was correct in assuming the bars are 55 pounds rather than 45. They buy the thicker bars because "they last longer without bending" - add 10 pounds to all of my 5rm lifts, and assume that the thickness is where most of my bench troubles stem from. So after I lifted 10 pounds more than I expected to on each lift, I had a 30 minute walk in 6 degree (farenheit) weather to rugby practice, and played against the local mens team for an hour and a half. Fitocracy thinks this is worth 1800 points - and I certainly agree, especially considering I did the whole thing after an 8 hour fast (which was probably a stupid idea) but I'm now ready to chow down on potato salad, ~1kg of chicken, some berries, yogurt, a protein shake and almonds. Probably 1800-2000 cals. I'll be DAMNED if I'm ever going to weigh in at 177 pounds again, even if it is fasted and dehydrated. | ||

Age: 23 || Height: 5'10 or 177 cm || Weight: 190lbs/86kg Starting Date: 01/01/2012 || Goal Date: 31/12/2012 Weight goals -- < 85kg Training goals -- Currently on 11th week of SS Current/Goal -- My goals are from the 'Advanced' weights taken from 'Practical Programming for Strength'. Deadlift = 155kg/200kg - This should happen, DL is my best lift. Plus this was my original gym goal to beat my work buddy who has gone to the gym regularly for 5 years. His best DL was about 170 I think, he's same height/weight as me. Bench = 77.5kg/125kg - Not sure at all about this, every 2.5 kg is hard fought with my bench, 110 is probably more realistic. Back Squat = 80kg/160kg - Haven't tried increasing this at all, flexibility/form first. Once I get that sorted who knows how my body will respond. Power Clean = 80kg/120kg 80kg actually feels pretty light for me if I do a good clean, and my technique still has huge amounts of room for improvement. Pretty confident I'll get this. Misc Goals: Do a muscle up! | ||

Negative pullups was really weird though. You do pullups with a wide grip right? How do you not injury self when doing negatives? Todays workout: 47.5 front squat 12 kg dumbbell bench. 92.5 kg deadlift. Starting slow after a longer break from the gym. My mind feels at ease working out though. Hella lot of new year resolutionaires though. | ||

18 consecutive wide grip pull-ups (From 10!) 4x6 75lb dumbell rows 4x6 215lb bench (second last set 5 reps, last set 3 reps, ah well) 4x8 +75lb dips (tied my PR) Only thing that went abysmally were my deadlifts. Not really sure why, I did a 315lb to start off (335lb PR), and I just couldn't get it up. I dropped it down to 295lb, still couldn't get it, maybe it was in my head. So I just stuck to 275lb and once the bar came up it went up easily and I had power for more. I'll try doing 315lb next time and making sure my technique is good. I've been doing lots of biking, running, and skiing, maybe that's been capping my deadlift and squat. Btw guys, how much can you guys do on the 45 degree leg press? It's such a weird machine I don't even... If I bring it down as low as possible, with 4 plates I struggle till no end, but then as I add more plates it doesn't really get tougher, just go down a little bit less. I got up to 10 plates (960lbs ^__^), it was shitty technique, possibly dangerous, but I have no clue how to use that machine properly. | ||
