The first one was power snatch lol. On the second try I jumped forward and couldn't save it. I was happy with the last one, even though I caught the weight pretty high, going down with it felt good. Also I think my back could be more straight during the first pull. But anyway, this is the lightest I've been (79kg) and the most I've snatched. Cheers ![]()

Are my hands "before the dip" supposed to be in a position where (if the weight were low) I would actually be able to press the bar up? Or is the dip and subsequent leg drive supposed to propel the bar up off my shoulders, at which point I can adjust my hands on the bar, and complete the press up?

You're supposed to "Jerk it". as in "when you split, you move your hands upwards and get UNDER the bar asap!" ask decaf for his "jerk step-by-step" It gave me a new approach to it, and I'm less scared of jerking shit that's nuts.

More lifters jerk with elbows down than up. It is just preference though (imo), so try it out.

I've been doing strength training for about 4 months and someone I know down at the gym said he was looking for someone to learn Oly Lifts with him. I'm definitely keen on learning them for various reasons, but is now too early to start? Reading the OP it suggests doing the motions first so should I just toy around with a no-weight technique practice for a few weeks alongside current lifting before moving into it or should I have a year of strength training behind me first? I'm currently on SL5x5 and my lifts right now (if relevant) are: (BW 59kg) Squat - 97.5 3x5 Bench - 57.5 5x5 Press - 47.5 5x5 Row - 65 5x5 DL - 130 1x5 (135 1x4)

All your lifts will likely benefit from learning oly lifts.

I knew instinctively that I needed to readjust my elbows down, but couldn't figure out how to do it (I was getting "stuck" in the elbows up position). My elbows are almost horizontal because thats ehats comfortabld and nobody musses jerks because of their elbow position. What is important are your feet. Dont worry about anything else other than keeping thr weight over your heels and then splitting your feet as fast as possible and gettig under and 'stepping through' the bar. I can go at length on this shit if you want me to lol

I too have a pinched nerve that's made the tip of my right thumb, index and middle finger number/tingly for the past month and a half. No success with nerve gliding, massaging and stretching until now so I'm considering seeing a doctor about it after my competition this Saturday. Pretty much the tip of all the fingers on my right hand. Sorry for it not being upright... anyone know how to rotate it and then actually save it rotated? I tried 3 attempts at 95kg after. I could clean it easy but I didn't have enough power for the jerk drive. I had snatched to max 77.5kg and then some drop off sets for 1.5hrs before this so wasn't as fresh as I could have been (lolexcuses). Didn't get a video of me snatching since my brother was busy with his own workout but here's a couple pictures of me setting up for 80kg snatches. 80kg snatch is my PR but I just couldn't hit it today, will have another max session on Friday and hopefully hit 82.5kg Snatch and 105kg Clean and Jerk. http://i.imgur.com/BoaLU.jpg http://i.imgur.com/HaMSZ.jpg Current: Snatch 80kg Clean and Jerk 100kg Front Squat 140.5kg Bodyweight 92kg Goals by the end of the year: Snatch 90kg Clean and Jerk 120kg Front Squat 150kg Bodyweight 85kg
