Entropic there's actually an option on youtube to rotate your videos left or right. Go into your video manager, edit the video and then the enhancement tab. There should be arrows on the bottom of the video.

Nice jerk by the way. Do you normally take that long to transition from clean to jerk though? This is purely anecdotal but I've found some success in taking less time after a clean and jerking it after no more than 2 breaths following the clean. I used to stand there and do a lot of mental prep before jerking but that just sapped so much of my energy.

No I don't normally take that long. I usually take only 3 breaths and then jerk it. It's just that my brother noticed my chest not staying upright as it should be so I was thinking about that as I did this.

Is it ok to post about olympic weightlifting progress in this thread instead of the other one?

So here's a vid of me snatching 84kg (185lbs) at my coach's ghetto gym.



I actually set 85kg as my personal best a week ago last Friday, but midterms made it so I didnt get very good sleep the past week though I was still able to train at least 1 hour every day and really focus on fixing technique (or at least tried to haha). I made 4 attempts after at 195lbs, pulled it high enough every time but I had problems keeping my back tight on the 2nd pull and at the bottom catch position.

I recently got access to the weight room at my school usually reserved for varsity athletes. There's bumpers and ELEIKO training bars and about 10 platforms. The regular weight room has 2 squat racks, bars that weigh 50lbs, and forbids dropping weights or chalk. I can't train as much as I was before and I took a lot of time off because of injuries/graduate school. Did 190/220 last session, down from 215/252. BW down to 90kg also.

Still it's so nice to have a place to train again after like 6 weeks.

MAKE USE OF THE VARSITY WEIGHT ROOM.

I'm trying to somehow get access to the varsity weight room at my university as well. Better equipment overall, and better platforms. But really, you don't need nothing too fancy, just check out these ballers:

EDIT: I just wanted to say that I had a great snatch session today...

Snatched up to 75-80-85 then 90 which I got in 1 attempt (new personal best, previous is 85). So I tried for 92.5kg right after, didnt get it in 5 attempts.

I snatched with iron plates and 33mm bars for about 6 months. It's really not a huge deal lowering everything manually. The problems happen when the gym forbids dropping weights/noise, because you WILL miss lifts in the sport occasionally and it sucks to get kicked out of the gym when it happens.


Honestly I think the main reason our Strength and Conditioning coach allowed me to use it was because he's demoralized by the fact that the vast majority of athletes he coaches really dislike lifting weights and want to get in and out. To him, it was flabbergasting that somebody would be interested solely in lifting, motivated, and knows the basics of technique and doesn't need babysitting. It's really sad when I go in there and see the T+F athletes/volleyball players/softball/soccer/basketball guys and gals be really uncooperative and not put in much effort. Football players are always really motivated and strong though, but its one of those sports where you really can't get away with slacking on strength+conditioning.

No, the guy who ran the place was perfectly fine with me missing and making noise. Lowering max snatches or cleans manually is not that hard and after some getting used to it it feels trivial. Lowering max jerks is really hard and never gets easier.

So my current best lifts are 90kg/100kg (Sn./C&J). Been experimenting with squat jerks for the last two days because my split jerks haven't been clicking (hence why my snatch is only 10kg less than my best jerk lol), already good enough to do 95kg lol. I'll keep practising it and maybe it'll be my go to method of jerks (hopefully, because they look badass)

WHAAAAA?! The real Ilya did so??? The bar has been set way high now for your life to surpass this point of glory and happiness. Should I try adding him on facebook lol?

I (full) squat jerked 95kg without too much problem yesterday lol (took me 2 CJ sessions to get to it). Only stopped because my hands started hurting to clean. I'm going to keep squat jerking for the next month at least. I wouldn't be surprised if I break my 100kg split jerk personal record with a squat jerk by next week.

Squat jerk is good if you can pull it off but I wouldn't recommend it, split jerk is more consistent.
how reasonable is it to eat off wood instead of your tummy?

I have been lowering snatches and clean and jerks (even max attempts) for about 9-10 weeks of consistent oly training now. It's not hard but, for me at least, it puts a lot of extra stress on the wrists and I specially resent it when i do stuff like triples from the hang, etc. I've been icing after training and I've been doing fine but I would love to have bumper plates and platform

I don't know what experienced/knowledgable people think but I think he could absolutely destroy that class. Right now at 94kg he's lifting more than most 105kg lifters in the Olympics A group. A medal would be guaranteed. There are videos of him snatching 196kg and clean & jerking 240kg in training. He's already clean and jerking as much (or almost as much) as the big 105kg names in competition and I'm sure he could be up there there with Akkaev/Klokov/Aramnau snatching 200kg+ easily. Would be fun to watch if Klokov, Akkaev and Aramnau don't get banned or busted for roids, if they do he would absolutely dominate the class.
