Muscle driver making a 10 person pro oly lifting team (small stipend but still getting paid to lift) coached by pendlay. The open tryouts are actually only an hour from me in a few weeks ~~

I remember something like 6'1 or something, so they would probably make a superheavy out of your tiny little body. Are you up for that?^^ Well, at 6'0 you could probably do -105kg.

I feel like if someone's good enough to get in, that person would already have a coach and training facility worth staying in. I think he's mostly looking for potential and mindset. Jobs/school and time/money constraints get in the way of people being able to workout 2-3 times a day and spend the rest of the day recovering. With food/housing provided and a bit of spending money, an athlete would be able to reach that potential.

tbh its hard to train with a job/school. Of course there are many who do it and succeed but to get to a high level, you need to make it your job. btw decaf, yo have a good shot too, you should come!

I'm going to be making a little extra money this summer, so I'm looking to get myself a belt (for squat + dead max attempts mostly) and a pair of Oly shoes (because there are a couple guys I met at the end of the year who can teach me to really snatch/clean&jerk come september... which gives me precious little time to get my strength and weight up =/) Suggestions on belt? All I know is that it should be the same width all the way around, rather than the belts you see at most gyms that only have a wide back and nothing else. Brand? Width? Sizing? Material? Suggestions on shoes? Sizing? I have a rather narrow foot, and I'm a 13 in street shoes, 12 in rugby cleats (the 13's are a touch big, the 12's a touch small). Sites that ship in the US (I'm sure i won't find these at a store)? Brands to look at or avoid? What would any of you spend on a first pair of shoes? What shoes are you wearing or have you worn and liked? Any other tips I might be missing?

For a belt, I use this: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/gl/4pronylonliftingbelt.html Shoes shouldnt matter that much, I know addias has narrow fitting shoes so that might be a good choice. For sizing, I have no clue, you might have to look online and search for sizing. BTW andjay I saw that on fb, fucking sick!

Amazon has each one for the same price (both with free shipping), is there a reason you use nylon + velcro vs leather + buckle? as far as sizing it looks (from reading reviews) like everything runs pretty much normal besides Ristos which are a big old mess. I've seen you lifting in white and black Nike's in a few vids, iirc. Is that still true?

I used to have dowins which were ok, but nikes feel alot better. You really can't go wrong with picking any shoe since they all work the same.

Haha i doubt it, i cant even qualify for nationals at this point. I might come anyways. @phyre: Shoes all work the same performance wise, some might feel better than other. Either use online or call for sizing info (mine run half a size big for instance). I use leather belt and buckle...because my coach gave it to me for free. It's also super old/rare from italy so it has super saiyan powers(one of the buckle straps broke yesterday LOL). Whatever works for you :D

I use the exact same belt and most of the oly guys and gals I know use the same one, it's really good and provides a little less support than a traditional leather one but won't fuck with your bar path like ever. As for shoes, I would highly recommend: http://www.maxbarbell.com/collections/weightlifting-shoes/products/contender-wei-rui-weightlifting-shoes as I just recently ordered the same pair. I had a pair that was an earlier model from the same maker. I've tried more expensive shoes from other manufacturers (Pendlay Do Wins, VS Athletics, Adidas) but none felt as good as the Wei Ruis despite the fact that they're the cheapest shoe on the market. Also, decaf where are you these days to be an hour away from the MDUSA SC facility? I'm likely moving to Charlotte NC in august and I was told its quite close to the MDUSA facility as well.

It's the balance when I'm at the bottom of the overhead squat after getting the bar above my head. Things that are more important than strength in olympic lifting: Speed, technique, flexibility, coordination, balance. You gotta work at that hip flexibility and get REAAAAALLY comfortable in that bottom position. I can sit there for daaaaaays now and used to fall over when i did it at the beginning lol
