If it seems overly processed or full of questionable ingredients I try to stay away from it. Basically I just evaluate if having that Monster is really that important to me. Sure a few a month probably won't have any significant effects but it all adds up and I like to evaluate each small decision Nothing scientific to back it up, but in the spirit of paleo: the less processed/refined/messed with the better!

i suffer from sebbhoreic dermatitis, which is indicated to be a yeast/bacteria in the gut/body/face. one day (maybe end of this year?) im going to go ketogenic and see if this will somehow starve/irradicate the stuff. otherwise its a lifelong condition afaik

Also have you tried eliminating certain food groups systematically to see if that helps significantly? Like eliminating all dairy for 3-4 weeks for example?

i dont remember if i done that properly, probably not. but afaik no one has managed to eliminate it yet, and no one claims to have done so either. the only thing that has worked (and people call it the Cure, until it comes back when they stop using it) is the corticosteroid cream. people say stuff like "hot or cold weather" , "spicy food" , "stress" can trigger it, but this is not real information. it starts to flare up for me and get progressively worse if i dont use the cream for 2-3 days, simple as that.

Ick, overuse of topical steroids can lead to nasty skin issues too.

Good luck with that, hope it works out.

Well as you said it is inflammatory so it's definitely worth a shot eliminating anything that can cause reactions from your diet (gluten then dairy then nightshades). Keto is also definitely worth a shot.

those seem like high numbers to me. for a 5ml serving. i dont know if its good that they are all high numbers though, or if its the ratio that is important. or if its missing anything

I am thinking about taking myself completely off caffeine to test the effects Nony is talking about here http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewpost.php?post_id=13756973

I am really unsure about the dependence topic. I don't think I am dependent on caffeine, as I often enough don't have any for a couple of days. But I definitely do feel better after a coffee in the morning. I can't really anymore tell if I am functioning less without caffeine and the daily coffee is just compensating the negative effects, or if I am actually having a positive effect from caffeine. That's why I wanted to test taking myself off caffeine.

How long do you think will it take to get off dependence, assuming I am experiencing bad effects from dependence? Do you think I need to go completely off coffee, or could I allow myself coffee just on one day of the week for example?

Currently I am drinking about a liter of coffee daily I would say. Like 3-4 cups in the morning and another 2-3 over lunch time. I usually don't have any after like 3pm.

I don't think you've tested caffeine dependence until you can have a wonky schedule and not end up grabbing a coffee or energy drink personally.

But if you cut way back, you'll feel the difference in just a few days. It took me less than a week to feel better all around when I cut most of the monster out of my diet.

That's not even fish oil. It has ALA which is a vegetable (usually flax) source of Omega 3 that your body very inefficiently converts to the Omega 3's you really want, which are EPA and DHA. Look for actual fish oil with only EPA/DHA. You definitely DON'T want to be supplementing with Omega-6's.

TL;DR: no way in hell should you buy that.

I was actually looking to buy fish oil as well. Is it more cost effective to do liquid or the capsules? I'd imagine liquid but as far as I know I can't compare the two but I'm willing to go either way. If someone can explain how I'd compare the amount of oil between the two products that would be awesome too, then I'll do the math

Why would I change other parameters like sleep schedule? It's a serious question. My understanding is from a testing perspective that would rather skew the results I am hoping to get (Confirmation about caffeine dependence and its severity). I mean if I go through my regular day without caffeine and feel the same or even better after a while without changing other parameters that would be as conclusive as I could hope for I think.

Oh, no, I don't mean an intentional test. If you just meant a test of the basic effects, yes that would skew results. But I've found that as far as REALLY knowing if you're dependent rather than just liking it, you need to stress-test your ability to function without it.

Not a concern, I've swallowed large pills before. More concerned from a cost perspective. Also, keep it clean!

That's what I was planning on getting unless someone told me the capsules were cheaper (like a buy 1 get 1 somewhere in town) but it's probably better quality either way. How long does that bottle last you?

a quick supplement question...
OP said that the general amount of protein should be about 2g/1kg... In my case, that would mean 140-150g of protein. Now, during what period of time is this? Weekly? daily?
I have some proteins for recovery drinks etc, and it says 30g (aka about 3/4 dl) mixed into a few dl of water within 1 hour of workout.
In my case, im a little bit skinny person, so I need to increase my calorie intake, so should I use protein shakes even on off-days to help gain weight? For a few weeks now I've been trying to increase my weight by eating more than I normally would, with a small amount of success

Oh, I do starting strength 3 times a week, badminton once a week and might occasionally go running.

That's the daily amount. It's better to get your proteins from real food such as meat, chicken or fish but protein shakes are fine otherwise. Since you want to gain weight it might be a good idea to drink the shake with milk instead of water, since liquid calories won't make you as sated. If you're not putting on weight at your desired rate the solution is simple. Eat more.

You will want to reach the desired amount of protein every day, not just days when you work out. You build muscle when you rest from lifting, not when you actually do the lifting.
I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds.

Also, badminton is awesome. Shakes every day helps if you're not gaining weight. Sneakyz nailed it though.

ok well I just went to a shop and bought some extra protein so I dont run out, and the shopkeeper said that you shouldn't drink your recovery drinks with milk products since it slows down how quickly the proteins can get to your body or smthing. So far I haven't had a hard time with recovery itself so I doubt it matters much to me atm, and I think I could down my proteins with yoghurt too?
Of course I optimize in eating enough meat and protein based food every day.

Let me get this straight, it doesn't matter where I get my 150g of protein, as long as I get it? (assuming im 75kg)
If I do not get enough protein from eating high quality food, then I should use supplements to fill up on that, even on off days.
