Done with poor form, they'll do it faster than almost any other exercise. Downward arch to the back does not sound good at all - post a video of you doing deadlifts, and the people in this thread can check out your form and give advice.

How much would full paleoing 4.2k cals cost per week, by the way? Not completely sure if that's viable as a student.

Downward arch to the back does not sound good at all - post a video of you doing deadlifts, and the people in this thread can check out your form and give advice. When I started, I was most scared of deadlifts, but honestly I'm more afraid of screwing up squats now. I've already managed to hurt my knee a bit and stalled progress for nearly 2 weeks, and I still just can not seem to do them with any confidence. I think my form is good now, I just have an aversion to putting too much into a lift for fear that I will accidentally put stress on my back or knee incorrectly and get an injury or even just fall over with the weight. It's preventing me from being able to handle heavier weights with any confidence. For some reason I don't have that problem at all with any of the other lifts. I feel like I can push myself a lot harder and get the most out of them, even deadlifts. I don't really know how to get over this ![]()

Bad squats are even worse than bad deadlifts imo. I did the same thing with squats; busted up my knee and couldn't walk for a week, couldn't do lower body exercises for a month and a half, couldn't do squats for even longer. But I reset the weight, got my form under control, and started moving right on back up after my knee healed. If you're really worried about it, post up a form video and this thread will check it out; squat more often, but increase the weight slowly and you won't even notice the weight getting heavier. Also depends how heavily you want to lean on thinks like milk/eggs, or do you want to take it to the other end, and go grass fed meats and tons of veggies? I will say that I ate paleo during the last year of university for pretty cheap, but almost every meal consisted of chicken (buy whole chickens and cut them up yourself - cheaper) turkey, or fish, and Broccoli or carrots (fresh or steamed) or Milk eggs and bacon. Snacks were always broccoli, carrots, or almonds =/. Paleo can be fun, while still being healthy, but it's expensive to go that way.

If the form is good => add weight steadily (being at only 50kg from march is bluntly put weak as hell) If form is bad => work on that and then add weight. As for curing fear of injuries in the "big" lifts (squat/deadlift) having proper form and consistently reviewing that it is still good is imo the best way. When you know that you are doing it right and know that doing the movement right isn't going to hurt you...you cant go wrong with that ![]()

Beyond that I don't have much advice, I maybe dealt with very minuscule chest pain in cross country and it was just a sign that I needed to rest. How often do you do both activities? Do you ever give yourself off days? I've been running for a few years, but for the past month or two I've been either running or doing MMA almost everyday, and it's the first time it's been so rigorous. I think you're right, I just need rest. I've met my weight loss goals anyway so I'm gonna focus less on cardio and more on strengthening once school starts. Thanks!

Is Paleo something where taking pasta/milk for a day is a very big deal, or is half paleoing already a big plus to your health and fitness?

Oh well, I'll read the book and come up with a decision. Is Paleo something where taking pasta/milk for a day is a very big deal, or is half paleoing already a big plus to your health and fitness? Usually if you want to see decent results you want to do at least 80/20 rule.... major results tend to be closer to 95/5 or full Depending on how poorly you were eating before of course

I like to see it as a guideline rather than a religion. I think I'm about 90/10 when I eat at home, but I wouldn't let it stopping me from having a normal life when I am eating out. Chicken, beef, pork and eggs were all cheap, especially when purchased in bulks ("family packs", "club packs", etc.). Food is probably a lot more expensive in Europe though, so only you can be the judge as prices depend heavily on geographic locations.
