No way bro you gotta hit all the angles. For a full workout it's more like:
4x12 Barbell Curls 3x8 hammer curls 3x8 wrist curls 3x8 seated dumbbell curls 3x8 preacher curls 3xF chin ups
Also probably do some sit ups and leg lifts and swiss ball crunches for your six pack too.

Hey guys new to Tl but definitely not new to hitting the gym and lifting some weights. So I'll start with some info about myself.
Eric Age: 23 || Height: 5'8" || Weight: 190 lbs Goal Date: 6/18/2011 (Getting married on that date) Basically my goal is to drop my bodyfat to about 6 or 7% by my wedding is approaching very quickly. That means I need to drop about 3% in a little less than 3 months.
In terms of training I actually just hitting some reps on deadlifts doing 365x8 + Show Spoiler +
Look forward to getting to know everyone better.

I did an easy 5 mile run at around 6 MPH on friday and only had a little discomfort in the knee and some tightness in my calf. I tested it again on monday and I still can't go above 6.5 without that slight pain in the outside of my knee. It doesn't bother me at all when I run up stairs or cycle. Any idea wtf is wrong with me? i'm guessing it's just a poor form/overuse injury. How long should I rest it before testing it again? What caused it? Sounds like it could be IT band syndrome or patellofemoral (but I would only say that with <50% certainty b/c there ain't enough info). If so do massage/soft tissue work/foam roll/stretching/etc. Stuff from page 4 here my help http://www.eatmoveimprove.com/2009/11/shoes-sitting-and-lower-body-dysfunctions/
I tweaked it during a run a couple weeks ago. I didn't think anything of it until it bothered me in my next run a couple days later. I thought it was just general soreness until it didn't go away after a week. From the quick research I did it does sound like an IT band issue. I'll check out that link when I get home from work. Thanks.

Yeah 6% is pretty intense...i'd ideally land somewhere in the 8-10 range (might actually happen this summer since i wont be starting off at 14-15 like i did last year lol) Very nice lift though, i think the most i've ever done for 8 reps is either 345 or 365...cant really remember lol. Sjarl might have some new deadlifting competition!
Havent been as sore as i am today in a long time. hitting the weights hard twice yesterday took its toll...shoulders, tricepts, core, legs, everything is shot lol. then running a ton of half assed sprints on my sprained ankle really topped it off.

Yeah, I'm curious to know his other lifts as well. My top deadlift was 350x5, but it's my strongest lift (it and bench at least).

I'm curious as to what are good conditioning workouts that are in MMA. I swim a lot and run regularly but I'm looking to build more core muscle and improve my physique.

Anyone who goes VLC (very low carb) here? I'm assuming there are a lot.
I'm having trouble trying to do this. Granted I've just dropped the grains for a little bit, but I'm having a hard time giving up my bananas and prunes. Anyone wanna give me a sample of what is standard for them to eat? Not necessarily even VLC, but maybe sub-100 carbs.

If i cut out rice and sweet potatoes (which i do some days) i'd probably be sub 50. I mostly eat a bunch of beef/chicken/eggs/fish and salads till i'm full :D

Forgive me for not going through this entire thing but I would absolutely recommend P90X for anyone who wants to get in incredible shape and have loads of energy. I was 5'10" 185 when I started doing it and at the end of the first session I was down to 165 and was in the best shape I've ever been in. Hardest thing is keeping focused, staying on the nutrition plan and keeping at it day after day. I would highly recommend doing it with a group of people to keep everyone motivated and pushing it.

^ Isn't p90x more or less a fad workout plan? It's not bad in that it has a lot of cardio built in, but I don't think it'll give you nearly as much strength as SS.
I've only seen p90x on TV, and I don't know anyone who did it.
Hit the gym today, got 5-3-5 on 245 squats, which was pretty good, I was hoping to hit 5-5-5 though.
There are only three squat racks in the gym I go to, and two dudes were doing some sweet sweet bicep curls on two of them.

I'd be happy with 8%, which I feel looks perfect in terms of aesthetics. 6% looks great too, as does 10%, but 8% would be my ideal BF.
rosa, what bf are you at right now?
you need a post a pic at some point, it's been ages since your last set?

Yeah i wouldn't really recommend it unless you had no access to a gym. Or the outdoors. Even then i dont know if i would. I'd go with SS to put on some size and strenght, HIIT for conditioning/cutting fat, and paleo for diet.
And maybe you should stop squatting in their curl racks. Ever think of that??
And while were on the topic of bf...i think i finally recovered from spring break, my body mostly resembles what it used to. Now if only i could fucking get in shape T_T I have rugby nationals in 2.5 weeks and i want to get some conditioning in but its so damn cold and i'm busy with lifting/coaching/practice.

In terms of lifting then I don't think P90X should be your main focus. I got sucked into it by a couple of college soccer players who swore by it and just by my results I'll attest that it works wonderfully as long as you stick to it. It helped me cut fat and get lean, but compared to someone who's hitting the weights every day pushing for high numbers, I don't see it being a good substitute for that, but it would definitely help.

For someone who isn't going to put in the time to research and build their own program, tailored specifically to their own body (the majority of people) p90X is a very solid weight loss program. For people who are going to build a plan, but then probably not stick to it, p90X with a group of people is an extremely solid option. I know quite a few people, spread through all age groups that have used the program before, and, if they stick to it, have gotten exactly the results that were expected.
That said, it's a weight loss program. Not a lifting routine - Yeah, the majority of us who regularly post in this thread are focused on lifting/strength/size, but for the average american looking to lose 15-20 pounds in a way that's not crash dieting, it's a great option. With p90X you can go out, tell your friends what program you're doing, get them excited, get them into it with you, and hopefully you'll all stick to it, whereas with "paleo/SS/HIIT" like decaf mentioned, it's going to take an entirely different mindset. Not everyone is ready for that, and a lot of people are never going to be ready for something like that. If anything, p90X can help some people in the transition.
BTW, this thread DOES get pretty unfriendly to anyone's who's not specifically weight training for strength with the way we all jump on them saying "NO DO THIS INSTEAD."
