I'm in such a pissed off mood now. I simply can't go to my gym on Mondays anymore, because I know that dipshit will be there wasting everyone's time. Now I need to figure out what to do... do I get back into my old Fri Sun Tue pattern? What the fuck am I supposed to do until Friday? Should I just go in for a squatting/rowing session tomorrow?
I hate my gym so much. Confront him...? You are white, you can commit social taboos in Japan...
Eh, I don't like to be that foreign guy in Japan... you know, the one who does whatever he wants because he's white . I've been here for too long so I don't have an excuse for being KY.
Of course, Japanese culture is the reason why certain members of the society can get away with their shit: nobody ever calls them on it. For those who don't care about abiding by cultural rules, they can just do whatever the fuck they want anywhere. Talk loudly with your shoes off on the train while drinking alcohol and eating? Sure, go for it. Stare at the guy at the urinal next to you, laughing? He won't say a single word.
Shit would get you killed in Los Angeles.
Dude, everyone knows if you can't get one rep you just didn't put enough weight on it. Duh. lol

@rosa: yea it drove me insane when I was in japan, but I was fairly confrontational and didn't really care too much about their revered culture; made me feel like an asshole at time, but it was the most efficient way of getting things done.

Nope I only rowed 1 yr @ Univ. of Cambridge at college level (not Uni level). I kinda wish I picked it up during undergrad, but I would have murdered myself trying to make my schedule work... Anyways it's a great sport and an awesome workout option.
I did meet a Princeton CS major, Crew team guy last month tho lol.

my elbow still hurts... tried a light workout today. 120kg squat went fine, 70kg bench was ok as well although my arm already started to hurt. and then when I attempted power cleans it became obvious that I injured my elbow last time doing power cleans because just doing the movement with no weight on it hurt like hell... guess I have to kiss power cleans goodbye for a while :/

Yay! :D Also started doing Press, and it seems like I am in the same situation as decaf, If I don't warm up my shoulder it's going to bitch on me so hard. :/ So yes! Let's keep at it ppl! Gogogogo :D Why did you stop doing press? It's awesome! :D Also, have you deloaded ? Your squat was higher like a month ago :o I want to BP 70 kg, I'm stuck at 65 and it sucks >_> 100 kg squat 65 kg bench 115 kg DL
Yep, deloaded a bit after a 5-day no gym workout. ;p 102kg felt fucking ez. I stopped doing press, since I had an injury on my left.shoulder, it's still there, but If I warm up properly. I get no pain, no annoyance whatsoever. Imma hit that shit hard today.
Press, Powerclean, squat and Clean. FUCK SI, madness indeed.
ALl my lifts are better than yours :$ aren't you ashamed bro? hit that shit hard and own me! asdfasf
I'm at: 110kg squat 130kg deadlift 70-75kg benchpress 60-70kg Poweclean 50-60kg Press 55-60kg Clean
Truth be told, If I were more concious about my nutrition, I'd be way up higher, also my sleeping and resting schedule is, at best, shit.
But I'm a happy lifter, so, fuck si! :D

You should not be pulling the weight up with your arms in power cleans...

Yea it's a crazy good work out. I live with two guys who were both on the rowing team during UG (different Universities) and we went erging quite a bit Jan. and Feb. I should start doing that again...

I know. its not the pulling, its the racking that hurts. and no, I dont catch the bar with my arms/wrists usually, but I think I might have done it on last wednesday which fucked up my arm(s).

My whey is about to run out and I'm going to buy more since I can't always get all of the protein I need from food. What do you guys use/suggest? I'm currently using Natural Vanilla.
TSL/GSTL + Show Spoiler +My liquibet is also approaching zero between TSL and GSTL . Put too much confidence in koreans/foreigners who played in korea

Some really inspirational shit and oly lifting advice here: http://donnyshankle.blogspot.com/
There have been times when my stomach was empty because I had no money for food but, I still trained. There was a time I was in love with my wife but, my spouse was no longer in love with me. On the day she rid of me, I still went into the gym and trained. I was once hit by a car. My neck and back hurt terribly but, I still trained. I have had to work long hours that went well into the night but, I still went to the gym and I trained. My mother took her last breath in my arms, but as badly as I hurt, I wiped my tears and I trained. Nothing and no one matters to me more than what I am fighting for each and everyday in that weight room and on my platform. I do not care how I feel, what I may lose out on, or what the weight may feel like either in my hands or resting on my chest. I renounce the idea of hard and the concept of heavy. I detach myself from negativity and, as a weightlifter, I find the courage to never let anything, which I have no control over, dictate my performance either on the platform or in any other of my life's responsibilities. You must learn to do the same if you want to become a great weightlifter. You must learn to do the same if you want to win. Makes me feel like i never have a reason to ever miss a training session.
Train the jerk with the goddamn volition of running head on into a herd of buffalo while still being on your feet ready to punch a polar bear in the face.
standing up with the clean leaves you only half way done with the lift. The bar now is sitting on your chest, waiting to see what you will do with it, like a nagging girlfriend who runs up your phone bill with pillow talk bullshit. It isn't until you hang up or jerk that sum' bitch overhead, that you are then able to go about your business and collect your trophy or find a new girl.

Ahh, ever since I started Starting Strength I just keep running into problems. Either I have to go on a business trip, getting sick, and now hurt myself doing deadlifts today. Needed to complain for a bit, guess I'll be at it again soon hopefully. By the way Icy hots are amazing, it's like a 8 hour massage that strangely has a pleasant smell.

Hurt yourself how? Make sure you always keep a flat, tight back when doing deadlifts (and pretty much any lift for that matter)

Business trips could definitely put dents into training. Try to get hotels with gym access, at least for accessory exercises? Since I highly doubt a hotel gym would have a squat rack.
Getting sick- look into multivitamins and what you eat. Should be able to minimize colds to almost nothing.
Deadlifts- this is why they have such a bad rep among skinny kids who don't make any progress with bodybuilding splits. Too many people hurt their backs and don't know how to fix it. Make sure your back is completely flat like decaf said, and perhaps post a vid of your form.
^I need to follow my own advice there, my lower back is feeling strained. Have to see if it's a form issue or just too much sitting compounded with heavy weights.
edit: another common problem with deadlifts is many many people do not drag the bar up their shins and thighs, so it'll swing out while you're straightening = your back does more work than it should, again leading to injuries

I feel like I'm doing the correct form, but I'll have to tape it when I'm recovered. I always had a problem before pulling with the back and thought I corrected it.
Anyways it was just on the 2nd rep. I pulled up and felt like something stretch in my lower back and dropped the weight. Wasn't really high up. The week before I was doing 305 easily and this week I was doing 315 and I don't know...
Edit: I did squats and bench then deadlift today. I felt like I was drained from the squats and maybe I should of stopped?
|
Squats can take it out of you but you should have enough left for a set of 5 deadlifts. And vids are always helpful! Take a look at this and see if your pain matches anything: http://www.eatmoveimprove.com/2010/02/so-you-hurt-your-lower-back/

True story...havent gotten a cold, flu, cough, or hardly a sore throat yet all winter since i switched to a more paleo friendly diet and took my vitamin d + multivitamin + fish oil.

It definitely feels like the Sacroiliac joint issues symptom. You guys think it might be something serious? I had this before and it just went away after a couple weeks.
EDIT: Actually come to think of it, might just be a strained. The pain isn't too horrible but it has its moments.

which multivitamin you guys take? and why have I not been taking any. fail.
