It’s just— (Frustrated noise) It’s okay to not be the best at something, you know? You can still enjoy it. If I go play pool with Dan in a bar, it’s not like “this game sucks” because I’m missing the ball every once in a while. This might be a problem with gaming culture now, that everybody wants to be a pro, and everybody wants to have some kind of label that makes them special. I’m like: I think you guys forgot the whole reason why we play games. We play games to learn and have fun. This just really stuck out to me. I should be less salty when I'm playing games. Been getting steadily more salty over the past year and it's not enjoyable.

Yeah, I've quit a few games because I realised they weren't fun anymore, they were an obligation.

I assume you meant this link? https://starcraft.com/en-gb/articles/20814257 I think an important part of that competitive-ness is to have peers who you can compete/compare yourself too and play with. In that sense it can be a great motivator and make everything way more fun/goal oriented. If you just play alone and solo grind against the ladder, then you're basically always comparing yourself to the pro players you see on streams, who you won't ever get near unless you put your whole life on hold.

This is definitely true. I think also being part of a "team" or just playing the game in the way it's "best" experienced is important to. I played the most dota I've ever played when I was actually competing in a team since the game and just general experience is so much better when played that way. SC2 was similar when I had mates I kept bouncing ideas off or playing practice games. It just sucks that Dota/League etc. don't really try prioritize the team aspect of the game.

But yeah. It's kind of sad really but sometimes I need to be reminded that I should be having fun when I'm playing a game, even if I've learned to not directly compare myself to pros.
