I wouldn't feel bad. Nearly everyone is that way.
The majority of people in the Western world don't have 1000 bucks to their name in liquid savings somewhere.
I make lots of money but i owe lots too. I also made lots thrn had no income for awhile due to the oil crash.
I've had a roommate (well significant other) and felt like that for years. Just when i felt secure everything crashed. Nearly lost absolutely everything. Now I'm just crawlin my way back. Takes a lot to go right to save properly, especially with how good companies are at separating it from you and how social media amplifies others success and dampens their lows.
Honestly i have less discretionary income than i did 10 years ago in highschool.
Looks like after expenses Uber drivers make maybe 10-11$ an hour.
Nice. That confirms my numbers within reason in some if the major metropolitan areas. They seem a touch low but i imagine if you changed your hours a bit and made sure rush hours on sporting events and Friday/Saturday night youd make more. And if you are good with people im sure you get tips.
Sure looks nasty in the Midwest and deep South though.
In any case... I'd put Uber driving pretty low on my list of fall backs. Jump through a few more hoops and you'd make nearly double for the same operating costs.
I've always liked the idea of fallong back into a career where k could just go to work and help people if i burned out / was pushed out of the engineering thing. Maybe firefighting or EMT work... although in america the wages are pretty shit ive heard.
Applied for a job at 1.00am, got a call back 8.40. At least that's morale boosting :p
It's the same-ish pay as this job but there are definitely career opportunities and eventually I'll be making like 10k more within a year I hope. If I get it.
Edit: everything the recruiter said makes it sound like this place is heaven (which I guess is her job) but still complete role reversal

Congrats bro! Take your time and make sure it's right for you, but I'm glad you have a good prospect.

Well, is it a job you want? Can you budget and penny pinch for a year? It's not uncommon but it really depends on you and her managing to make it work.
Sorry, not trying to get preachy, just been through it and know how hard it can be.

I already do monthly spreadsheets for budgeting, what kind of nerd do you think I am?
But it entirely depends what she's comfortable with. I'm more than fine living with other people for a year or whatever and saving a lot of money but I can understand she won't like that, especially after living on our own together. Tough tits if she's not making any money though.
(for real though nobody wants that, she'll be bunkered down in a room for a year never leaving and that'll make her worse and I'd probably be the same, I hate people in my relaxing space)
It's not a job I want, no, but that's what I get for slacking all my life. It has decent progression though and eventually maybe I can bamboozle my way into project management which would be one of the things I want to do.
It's document control for an architecture firm, so basically just getting every document ever from everyone and making it into some kind of order and reporting back. It's a step up from the monkey work I'm doing now though.
Despite it being doc control (which I deal with as part of my job) I would think it has more opportunities to critcially think and offer process improvements leading to other positions. You can't underestimate the psychological toll listening to the crap you do either. I'm pretty distant from your situation obviously but if I were you I'd take it in a heartbeat if it's the same pay.
Absolutely, that's my plan. This office I'm in now is full of complaining old women and we're in a basement with no windows or sunlight (they concreted over that...) so it's pretty much the culture that's draining. The content I deal with is fine though because my apathy to the world knows no bounds. There's also absolutely 0 progression.
Woman said new office was swanky, had windows (all i care about really) and the people were fun and social.
No brainer really.
Just the interview to get through really which I'm not too bad at.
Oh, yeah, my arms won't be dead anymore either, that's cool.
I am in nowhere in south dakota with poor internet and poorer cell service undergoing intensive bird identification training. I think that gives me liberty to be late with music monday:
Things are looking up but they could swing down if I get rejected from graduate school next week after the great interview I had.
Recently uninstalled duelyst and hearthstone in order to keep focused. There's something about card games, man, it seems to make them four times as addictive as other games.
So I started watching Star Trek: The Next Generation. I watched a plethora of Star Trek growing up because my mom loved it so I have seen episodes here and there from every different series. I am enjoying it so far (only on episode 3), but is it worth it to watch the original Star Trek first?

I didn't like the OG series much (it's just too old for me), but I did love the crew, so I'd say at least watch the movies.

I'm always watching TNG again, it's pretty dam great. Don't think you have to watch the original. In fact all the Star Treks kind of work on their own to a fairly good degree.
@UK old women butt fucking - Shame. Maybe it's not too late to try get back into the EU so your government is stopped from fucking you?!
Wonder why conservative has become synonymous with be an absolute utter asshole to normal people while sucking off companies.
