Financial issues can put a strain on any relationship, from burgeoning new ones to longstanding marriages. I would try not to let money become the focus of your relationship - it's just a thing to help you get from day to day, but the person will be there with you for everything that cash doesn't cover. But, on the other hand, a person who is just becoming a dependent and not contributing anything to your livelihood is just making your life harder... unless they're not. Plenty of single-income houses and stay at home spouses live comfortably. It's not a straightforward thing, and really depends on the people in question and a huge amount of other factors.

Not that that excuses me, but... Things have been pretty great lately! No real need for excuses I hope getting caught up in life means things have been going well for you too! HF that sucks and I went through something similar but it turns out the person I was providing for at the time was also a horrible witch in disguise so what worked for me may not work for you. I hope you can find a better job soon!

My wife went through this exact same thing multiple times and we basically discovered she can't handle the toxic environments of law offices. It sucks because now her contribution is pretty minimal (at least salary-wise) but at the very least she's doing something that won't cripple her mentally and emotionally.

No last year she worked a shit part time retail job that got almost no money and the salary one she just quit was insurance customer service. They were quite strict/aggressive but she's got some underlying issues that need therapy tbh because she can't handle any kind of pressure/failure. Working on that though soooo maybe some day things will be better. It's annoying because I want to genuinely spend the rest of my life with her and I'm working crazy hard long hours to get extra money to save for our future and in the process destroying my arms and now all that money is basically going. It's frustrating as hell. New job soon I hope, I have a shit tonne of experience on my cv.

He just couldn't live with himself from all the horror stories he had to hear. He crashed super hard and had to do a hard reset on his mentality that took a couple months - even then he still isn't back to normal.

On one hand it gives you ~5 months to find a solution, but I don't know how long it is for finding a flat around London... I guess pretty short?

Uber seems like a pretty decent fallback job for anybody that has a car. Lots of London people don't have cars though. Thailand is doing Uber for motorcycles now. I'm told they don't have to give passengers helmets. Not sure if that's as good of an idea. I don't even get on my bike without nearly 1000$ in safety gear now.

I hate driving, but I'd do it in an instant if my car wasn't old enough to be in the middle of puberty.

I'd say good waiter to bartender once you take into account gas mileage, maintenance, time spent waiting around and replacement costs (need a new car every 3 years, or more frequently if you buy used). You also would want the best insurance you can get because driving that much guarantee's you get to drive with all the dumb-asses who really shouldn't have a license at some point. Look at it this way; in american; 8 hours of driving a day is ~300 miles a day (480 KM). If you have a good car on gas mileage you filing up every 1.5 days for ~$40.00. ($9740.00 per year) You also are doing an oil change every 3 weeks for around $90.00 ($1560 per year). Average vehicle you spend about $300 bucks per 20,000 miles in maintenance ($1650.00 per year). maybe $600 per year in insurance, which is probably pretty liberal considering you are driving 109,500 miles per year. Average vehicle lasts maybe 250k miles, so make that $20,000 every 2.5 years. So you pay basically $21,550.00 just to go to work every day. Say the average trip is 5 miles, 5 miles back for 10 miles. thats 30 trips every day. Say you average 10 bucks per trip, times 30 trips, times 260 days a year (assuming you take 2 days off a week) that's $78,250.00 gross. Now you lose a third of that to taxes and the maintainence upkeep and you bring in around $30,000 per year. Also... I definitely just got an email from a professional association that I pay thousands of dollars to be a part of that I can enter a contest and win a $100 gift-card! What a great prize! I get that most of my money is buying professional practice insurance but come on. I think when you include the hour to fill out the survey and the two or three hours to go pick up the prize and schmooze nearly everyone who could win the prize would make double just going to the office...

GF and I take uber a lot in Malaysia since it rains every day and I only have the motorbike, and for some reason she doesn't like sitting on it in the rain, not sure what's up with that. From what we've heard from other drivers, I don't think a single one of them uses Uber as their main source of income. It's either a second job or an interim thing while looking for work.

Sorry to nitpick, that figure shocked me though. I assumed Stealership pricing; not sure if maintaining warranty or saving money on oil changes. Figured 1 hour at 70 bucks plus 20 bucks oil? I imagine you could drop price in half at like a mr lube or something. Probably depends on vehicle. I personally do all my own maintainence but i figure average uber driver doesn't. Could be totally out to lunch though. Also doesn't factor in money you get back from selling old vehicle.... but at 250k miles not sure how much you'd get. Anyway id say my numbers maybe plus minus 25% depending on area and ability. Quick dirty guesstimate. Also depending on tax loopholes available. Some places youd be able to write off a lot of those operatinh expense and then it's more like 40k take home.
