The cynic in me believes he waited until after his reelection in order to prevent Prince Ali bin al-Hussein from becoming FIFA President.

Long story short, there's a huge shitstorm of high-profile MTG players who are 'disappointed in him' because he rare drafted at a GP when he should be playing for the integrity of competition or some shit.
Wow and he's donating half if his proceeds to charity. Fuck tha hataz. I support rare drafting at all levels :D

Tldr, pro players of outstanding merit and hall of famers damned him to forever never being able to play test with the pros because he didn't take the striktly better choice in burst lightening because it would fit his deck better. Everyone else in the world who understands that you don't look a gift horse in the mouth would take the stamped foil goyf because its a fucking foil goyf.
Pros mad because not the best play, everyone else is like, pros be tricks and hoes.

Somewhere out there, someone's made the reductive argument conflating throwing your chance at winning the GP (or at least reducing your chances of winning) for the sake of a monetary reward (or in this case, one with significant monetary value) with matchfixing.

Soniv, if you ever have the choice to take a foil goyf over and burst lightening and take the burst lightening I will fly to you and end you. There is no way that burst lightening is a better pick when you can hate draft it or take it for value. Ever. Period. The pros are saying this because they don't have to buy cards and such. They literally use company credit cards to pay for their hobby.

No.
Stop.
Literally get out.
Edit: looking at his picks he had an evolving wilds and could have splashed the goyf with a single forest. He could have played the goyf, but then the value of the stamped foil goyf goes down.

Lost in the semis but they split prize support anyway at top 4 so it literally didn't matter after top8.

So is the issue the prize money is being split at that point so you don't "value" draft at that stage? I think it's stupid and would take the goyf but maybe that adds to it.

At an absurdly reductive level, the two are the same. You are deliberately choosing to value maximizing material gain over the goal of winning.
It's not hard to see why pros find this so contentious if you look at it from this perspective, even if you don't agree. Especially when in sporting events, something like losing matches in groups so you meet your countrymen later in the bracket is somewhat taboo, even when patriotism/nationalism is far more "noble" than individual material gain.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the EV of matchfixing in any case where it's happened in E-sports was much higher than that of trying to win, but that doesn't make it less deplorable, lol.
