Weirdly, I don't think we can. At least not completely. It seems like the numbers just MEAN different things. Like 65 degrees in MA used to be a little chilly but in our apartment here it's fucking hot.
Basically either the Midwest does temperature differently or my apartment building is doing something weird with the thermostats.

You're already doing it. The good thing is that now you know how not to do it anymore: stop that.
And even if you do end up fucking it up, then at least you'll have learned. It sounds generic and dumb, but knowledge builds confidence, and it really seems like the main thing you need, most of the time.
