To be fair, FF games have terrible stories. They just hit a lot of folks at the right age, a-la early Blizz.
What? Blizz?
Blizzard used to make games with awesome gameplay. Kerrigan was awesome though.
I concur, I love D1, etc. But part of the reason I'm so apathetic to D3 and Sc2 is that the story/writing is so... painful? Vague memories of leaves me with the conclusion that I thought they had good stories, but nothing I can remember seems to justify that. Hence my point that it was probably just age-appropriate (read: stupid moron kids love terrible writing), rather than actually anything special. And I think FF's have pretty junk stories too, with much of the same first exposure/age-appropriate nostalgia boosting their reputation.
To avoid being a total frowntownbrown, Lost Odyssey had some really good writing in a few of the 'dream' sequences.
Actually I'm interested, what do people think were well written video game stories?
Gonna stream some Hearthstone. I'm shit bad at it so if anyone wants to make fun of me/backseat play by all means come hang oot in chat. http://www.twitch.tv/waveofshadow

I mean, I never found D2 or WoW's storylines that interesting. Really SC/BW was the only one I did, and still, thought was a well written story. Some of the dialogue is clunky, but what do you want? Its a video game where the story is there to get you immersed into the gameplay (which, I think we can admit, was awesome). On top of that, elaborate cutscenes like in D3 are hardly memorable, rarely convey information, and according to what I've heard are expensive even now.

That's epic.
FTL too good, I nearly went mad beating the game on hard with every ship and every ship variant. Some of them were really terrible if you didn't get lucky, a few others (like the fed cruiser alternate) were amazing. That said boarding crew strategies in general gave you the highest odds of victory and the highest score and if you had a boarding crew and a healing bomb you could auto-win vs anything but the robot scouts.

I thought braid was really well written. one of the few games where I looked up more information on the story after I played the game. The gameplay was awesome but the story is what really intrigued me. It also has a bomb.com soundtrack.
Been watching hearthstone streams and saw someone in chat say they bought theirs off eBay, figured I'd go check and pick one up for 20ish bucks thinking it wouldn't be more than that...... Well... They are all 100+ bucks with 20+ bids, jezzz was not expecting that.

Correct, I was first wave. And as it happens, I actually browse all the forums on a periodic basis and scan the active topics. Plus I end up in every forum through the reports and as you currectly surmised I always browse a couple of pages before and after a reported post and filter the involved parties posts. Reports turn up alot more shit then just the reported if you have the eyes to see it.

hahahaha the second time I won I was like "what happens if I kill everyone on the mothership? I bet I just defeat it and don't have to fight it's 2nd and 3rd forms! =D". ... Good thing I still had my burst laser II from the very start installed.
