I'm not totally on Req's side, I enjoy recreational drinking and have learned how to ride the line of 'just drunk enough' through the above noted experiences, but even having experienced it I don't find it greatly appealing. I'm ok with some of those really over the top stories involving incredible drunkenness being about other people that I was with, without me being the actual subject.

But I agree with that for the most part. I think a couple of times in one's life it doesn't hurt to cross the line (or it hurts enough to know you shouldn't do it again) but when I allow myself to drink specifically TO get drunk the few times I do it, I don't cross that line.

I've tried different types of alcohol, and while there are certain beers that are nice and I tend to like wine, I generally don't drink more than one glass (or bottle for beer, whatever). Probably because I don't drink a lot of stuff that isn't water, I don't even drink more than a can of pop a week anymore, if at all. So on that front, I probably wouldn't enjoy drinking things that I don't like (like hard alcohol) or overdrinking things that I do like just for some sort of payoff at the end. As for actually being drunk, I've been around drunk people plenty of times. And while I talk about my bad experiences, I've also had perfectly normal ones too, like the time everyone got drunk and we had a Guitar Hero and Halo tournament. I had plenty of fun being sober, and I don't think anyone really had substantially more fun because of drunkenness. I've been to family parties where my family members get drunk and we all throw a football around or just sit around watching TV and talking. I never felt like my experience needed to be enhanced by being drunk. So, the path to getting drunk doesn't appeal to me, and I don't feel like I need to be drunk to have as much fun as I do. Combine that with bad experiences and repressed anger/depression issues, and I don't really see how getting blackout drunk would improve my life in any way. If other people have more fun when drunk, cool! Good for you. I just don't need to, and I don't think it's necessary for me to try it to prove/disprove that hypothesis. and I don't think anyone really had substantially more fun because of drunkenness. How can you just assume this though?

If you don't drink a lot with someone, you are basically saying you don't consider them a friend/equal/etc. You'd think resident weeaboo Req would know this. I was in South Korea for one day and the friend I was visiting had me drinking in four different places before dinner. Don't fuck with South Koreans and their booze. They scary.

Are you a professional photographer or some such(like meeting the Pope sounds like it wouldn't just be a simple thing)? Also pretty cool that you do.

Like many recreational drugs (because let's be honest, it is) it alters your perception of things and makes you feel good, so from purely a physical standpoint that's why some people do it. The 'having fun' thing is another positive. For me over the past few years I only get to drink maybe a few time a year, so I use it as a time I can let loose and relax. i have more fun making fun of drunk people, and taking their keys away from them.

The people I got sick of after a while are the ones who don't understand how to just be drunk as opposed to always getting slammed @req - we're not saying you should start drinking or make bad decisions. But it's unreasonable for you to criticize getting drunk as an activity when you've never really seen the other side of the fence.
