Nah, I agree that players should get multiple chances. Single elimination kinda sucks. But this is not the way to do it. The fact that guys like Oliveira and Reynor who have already won a bunch of matches are now in a completely equal starting place in the final 2 days to Coffee who went 0-6 is dumb. Just do a true triple elimination bracket. That would be amazing.

It's unfair but in other hand player that went further should feel more confident against low tier players. There isn't perfect solution but for me it's a lot more fair than getting eliminated at group stage from beginning.

Assuming Maru loses the 2nd vs 2nd to Serral, he has the easiest knockout bracket run for sure.

He'll only have to face terran, Shin, or Solar until the knockout finals and then a bo5 against Reynor/herO/Oliveira can go either way.

With all the talk about tournament formats, I'm wondering if the one used in handball (for Worlds and Euros) has ever been done in SC2. I don't remember it happening
Basically it's an ordinary 2 round robin group feeding into 4 or 8 team single elimination playoffs but with the modification that the teams that advance from the same group go into the same group in group stage 2. Then, instead of having them play again, the score from their group stage 1 match is transferred. I think it's a pretty nice way to make it so that you actually get a substantial advantage from going, say 3-0 rather than 2-1 in your group.

I like the format but the number of rematches and the lack of knockout seeding are downsides.

I'd prefer a Swiss system or something

That game was over when Serral crushed the first army. But Serral being Several refuses to just go for the throat when instead he can just slowly strangle his opponent. And the neural parasite play seemed particularly brutal way to kill.
