ShoWTimE and HeRoMaRinE ♥ Plz surprise me and win

is Maru going to play?
edit: yes, NV posted on instagram that he wanted to play his scheduled game for tsl
|
gabe playing from rottis house probably a bit hungover btw, if you want some excuses ready

The ingame sound is kinda fucked or is it just me?

I don't know that TY could have had a much worse build against what Showtime was doing if he tried.
|
Accidental second ghost academy = may as well make nukes?
|
I love the battle report chart
|
Showtime is trying really hard to give TY a shot here
|
This game is pretty damn messy
|
ShoWTimE seems to be avoiding going skytoss, but he doesn't appear to have better ideas...

Terrans getting farmed by protoss this week, dunno if TY will come back with how showtime is playing lately gg!
|
Showtime almost went full foreigner there. Glad he won the first game!
|
Given that this game was close after TY had a disastrous early game I'm actually worried for Showtime now.
|
Well, he got there in the end. TY's games today have been more aggressive than makes sense to me. I'm not sure why he's not just getting to 90 SCVs and going late against protoss, at least when he's not playing Trap or Stats.

I wonder if it was prudent for TY to actually go on the offensive there, instead of just continuing to play defensive. Then again, maybe his experience says Fleet Beacon tech is going to screw him over if he turtles for TOO long.

On December 13 2020 01:28 Elentos wrote: Given that this game was close after TY had a disastrous early game I'm actually worried for Showtime now.
Yeah, this is sort of how I feel. The one exception is that TY continues to play the early game in a way that puts him behind against protoss. It's completely conceivable that TY will be behind in every game given the approach he's shown today.

Sure. But he's been smashed in four consecutive games against protoss today, so there's that.

That zealot flank was BEAUTIFUL.

If TY had a few ghosts (and micro'd his army) this is a totally different game. But he's really playing into Showtime's 25 zealot A-move armies.

Wasnt hard to counter by showtime. I guess he kinda went for counter-build.

I'm so surprised all the casters bet on TY tbh I figured what with TY 0-3 Neeb and Showtime 3-1 Inno being relatively recent results at least one of them would bet Showtime.

That was a pretty fun game to watch, with both armies getting whittled down repeatedly, and lots of action... I think Showtime's better economy was the reason why he outlasted TY in game four.

On the other hand, DIE MAUER! I mean I would say TvP has the least things in common between BW and SC2 out of the 3 Terran MUs. And it's already a MU Terrans especially in Korea will never tire of telling you they hate.

Also if Ragnarok beats Zest TY will most likely be out in losers round 1 and I can't wait to see how many bracket predictions that will ruin since apparently people also thought TY would beat Trap in ST.

Why aren´t they playing the korea vs. korea matchups first? Wouldn´t that be better because of the time zone? Or are they casting of replays?

Harstem said "Foreigners will have a positive win rate in series against Koreans on Day 4."
Now, do we go the LITERAL interpretation and say any win-rate over 0% makes this true?
Or do we go with what was likely to be Harstem's IMPLICATION, which is that foreigners will win 50% or more of their matches?

Dark cancelling +1 melee to get a faster spire may have actually made the difference in having enough mutas out in time. Impressive stuff from him, but a little bit bewildering from Serral. Seems like he has a bit of PTSD from playing against Reynor's muta styles and just doesn't ever want to be put on his heels by muta play.

I'll try: I don't expect an epic five-game series in every single one of today's remaining matches.

Dark 2-0 vs. Serral so far! One more!!!

Wow Dark is ahead in a series vs Serral. I should have tuned in earlier. I did always believe that their match history wasn't actually representative of the average skill difference between them but still thought Serral would win today.

Well, then. Dark just refuses to play roach wars and that's making the difference.

It was highly representative of how Serral was so much ahead of Dark at least in ZvZ. In 2020, ZvZ has been Serral's worst matchup.

Lost twice to Elazer, once to Lambo and Rogue in 2020. Also, this one is a bo5.

ionno if he was really ahead enough to call it a throw? Muta is pretty hard to transition out of, so muta games generally look like this when they drag out.

It's so dumb how fast Lurkers are. They're literally one of the fastest Zerg units when on Creep. Doesn't really make a lot of sense for a Siege Unit that can deal as much splash as it does.

I don't think Dark was ever overwhelmingly ahead, I think at best he was slightly ahead or in an even position. Still took some shambolic engagements later on though.

Man, what strategic victory by Serral. Surprised that Dark committed so hard to the inferior unit composition - late-game ling ultra is basically hard countered by lurkers w/ support

A game where Dark kept thinking "it's too late to transition into anything else" until it was actually true
You have to keep in mind that from Dark's POV it can be hard to accurately judge your own position, and know whether or not you can realistically commit to belatedly matching the Lurker comp.

Ultras are a funny unit. They feel unstoppable when in the open and like the worst unit in the game when attacking into buildings.

Not to mention fast siege, invisible when siege, does not deal friendly splash dmg. Poorly design unit when compared to other siege unit.

That's just a lie. I have never said that Reynor's playstyle matches well against Serral's and also never said that he lives in Serral's mind or something else.
By the way, feels like Serral is still better than Dark in ZvZ when it comes to standard comps and lategame management.

Well, Reynor had a tricky style which caught off guard Serral a few time but in 18/19 he sure wasn't as good as him overall. That said, I was quite annoyed at the people who said during the summer that serral was losing to reynor because of his style while it was pretty evident that the spaghetti boy has massively improved.

Which piece of delightful TeamLiquid™ apparel will you be acquiring?

I really thought I was safe for #true in the no-mech prediction when it came to this match up. ):

He's staying at Rotterdam's place so he was probably bribed to ruin Harstem's predictions.

I hadn't realised how hilarious that supply was until they reminded me of the Queens .

I wasn't expecting Reynor to build 110 workers again after how that game he played against Maru went.

Is Reynor trolling us with 110 workers?

Well, how do i put it.
Somehow losing to mass mutas with mine-cyclone-thors is perfect description of this series.
|
I can't help but think that 110 drones style is definetly not optimal, or at least way too risky and that the point of doing it is just flexing on your opponent :p

I guess I have the 3 predictions wrong, to bad, I did well last week.
|
Bit of a shame they put Rotti and Bitter on this series, was quite obvious this was gonna be rather onesided. Pretty sure they had many more stories to tell, oh well. Fun stuff

Reminds me of that game Reynor played against supernova in the caster teamleague.

It certainly doesn't seem optimal, but I doubt Reynor's doing it just to flex.

You're probably 99% right. Maybe he got lost in the flow of the game. Or he is just more confortable with it.

Hyped for Showtime vs Longplayername

damn bitterdam for such a short series. bit of a shame

Zest rocking Rag pretty hard, 2-0 so far.

They were goofing a lot about Ragna chances but he was not that far behind despite donating 18 mutas for nothing

Why isn’t this tournament getting more livestream viewership? Is it the way it is tagged on Twitch? Time of year? It appears to stay around 8K viewers most of the time but is a Premier event with top players at the same time of day as a DreamHack.

I tried watching during Week 1. I did voice the same concern last week, and people were saying "Oh, it's just RO32, peak viewership is Clem v Byun". Not sure about viewers, but the thread never picked up (in fact, even died down in the later games when the timing should be middle of the night/day for EU and NA). Also, there's just too much lag time between matches (to be fair, this may be partly because of the player's fault).
The timing is terrible for Asia-Pacific. I don't get why they can't start 2-3 hours earlier (which is early morning for NA). So I gave it a miss on Saturday. Not sure whether I will be tuning in on Sunday. I already had my SC2 fix during the ST. Also, kinda bugs me that I'm staying up late and EU/NA fans don't give a shit even though the event is set for their prime time.
I really want to support TL's own tourney, but the terrible timing and low hype just puts me off. Sorry, guys. It's December, and there's a lot of work and chores to rush before Christmas and New Year...

I think it was a big mistake not making the ro32 double elimination. I think it killed alot of hype this TSL had going for it.
Neeb
Trap
uThermal
Harstem
DRG
Clem
Bly
SKillous
SpeCial MaxPax
Cham
souL
Dream
Armani
Lambo
RagnaroK
Thats alot of popular players/up-and-commers who are OUT of this tournament. It would have been better if it was double elimination from the ro32, or just make it single elimination from the beginning (would also make Showtime, Serral and Elazer victories more meaningful). I know it was because of the 3 week saturday/sunday schedule. Still think its a big shame.
(It also don´t help that around 2000+ viewers disappear when Serral is done playing his games (no matter if he wins or not). It seems alot of the big foreigner fans only watches certain matches, or is just me?)
At least alot of the best GSL players are still in it to make it exciting. If the foreigners keep performing i think viewership will go up.

Speaking as a EU fan, the timezones are pretty bad for a regular working/family person. A lot of the matches were played close to or after midnight. When you have to get up around 6-7am, can't really stay up that late.

Yes, so the Sunday late timing doesn't even make sense (only accomadates NA). Maybe should've scheduled on Friday and Saturday instead?

Weird timing indeed, i wasn't even aware this tournament did start.
