I don’t really understand why it is the term in WC3/SC2 etc when they consist of completely different species tbh. Just doesn’t feel right in a pedantic way either, but it’s the term everyone uses for whatever reason.

yeah in war3 it's even more infuriating as a pedant because the factions even consist of multiple different species. "Humans" actually also have elves and dwarves, "Orcs" have trolls and tauren, etc.
i'm not at all trying to be the PC-language police here. i say "race" in a gaming context all the time. just pointed out that it sounds kinda off when you think about it.
