I don't know if it was his annoying British accent, or the stark tone of dread he maintained throughout the entire cast, or his way out of place brexit joke, or his general lack of game knowledge, but something (maybe everything) about him just rubs me the wrong way.

you don't have to enjoy his (or anyone's casting) but maybe you could consider your tone. try to imagine what it would feel like if you read a comment like that about yourself or a loved one. much less, read a whole bunch of them.

"annoying British accent" is also a pretty, well, annoying thing to say. what's he supposed to do, try to put on a fake accent for you?

i found the Brexit reference a bit out of place, but funny cause it felt genuine and it's a pretty amusing situation to make a comment like that as a Brit in front of a European audience. but i can see people wanting to keep politics and sc2 apart.

It got an audible laugh in the room, I didn’t mind it.

I don’t understand what the issue is with his accent (heard this complaint a lot), DeMusliM, Kaelaris, Apollo, TB et al have accents that aren’t a million miles away from Grant’s.

I’ve enjoyed his casting thus far, I like that he actually asks questions out of Lambo that kind of bridge the gap between casual knowledge and professional player levels of knowledge.

I’m not overly fussy on casting I suppose, worst I tend to feel is ‘I wish this other caster I prefer was here’, not the ‘I had to mute the stream’ hyperbole I see all the time.

Are other eSports like this with casters? SC2’s community is historically brutal to them in totally unproductive ways, I can only compare it to regular sport ball where commentators generally aren’t discussed at all (plus are bigger so there’s not really a community link between viewers and casters)

Nah I have him in the ‘vaguely generic English’ category, I’m not great at picking ones that aren’t especially distinctive like your Yorkshires or Bristolian etc

the way a person speaks, i.e. their accent, is a huge part of one's identity. demanding someone change that is kinda fucked up imo. also hardly even possible really.

when it comes to the political stuff, i think one has to build a lot of credibility with the audience first. to add to my previous example, Tasteless also routinely makes reference to Trump and stuff and i've never heard or read a negative comment about that.
