I hope HeRoMaRinE can beat Serral, it would be amazing for the suspense of the tournament (Neeb/Serral v X finals are too predictable ) and for blizzcon.
I think the hardest match to predict here is stephano vs snute
on one hand we have an all-time great who has slowly come back in form to being very good again, but just how good is hard to tell because the metric he is compared to is the most skilled foreign zerg we've ever seen (serral).
and then on the other hand we have probably the most consistent foreign zerg of all time, who has been "slumping" recently, but showed in group stages that he is back in form too. and, historically, they are both very solid zvzers
anyways my prediction
serral heromarine true scarlett neeb stephano elazer major
serral scarlett neeb major
serral neeb
and if we can get to that as a final match... then I think we are all fortunate. I'd love to see neeb slow down serral's hypetrain, it's moving a little too fast. and it's not that he isn't amazing, it's that people suddenly forgot that neeb is also amazing.

Remember when foreigners complained that they can't improve because they get knocked out in the ro16/32 by a korean anyway. Nothing has changed except they get knocked out by white players instead.
The new patch does not nerf aggressive PvT styles that much, but it's made mid to late game unplayable for protosses. It was already pretty bad for either PvT or TvP. Just look up Neeb, ShowTime, Stats, Trap's PvT records, and Bogus' TvP. Now it's completely one sided for Terrans.
The real problem which was that the MU was completely early game dominated, is not addressed and I expect Classic/Zest/herO to continue their PvT streaks. Though their window for carrying early game advantages over to mid-late game will be shortened.
This is what happens when you address a matchup design problem with a balance patch.

So what race is OP? Terran? Protoss? Is it Zerg?
Between January and February, protoss was op in PvT and Zerg was op in ZvP. Since then Protoss was op in early PvT and terran was op in early TvP. Terran was op in late game TvZ. For this patch, I think terran is op in TvP but protosses seem to figure out PvZ so they might be slightly advantageous or less UP in that MU. Can't say too much for TvZ for now, but I would guess it's in good shape.

It matters. Rogue would not be able to take down Maru in a GSL bo7 set up in the last patch. IEM was totally different as in Maru did not know he would fight Rogue and there was no time for him to prepare for or adjust to Rogue's all ins. Rogue admitted he could not win lategame ZvT vs Maru. But yeah patch does not matter for who will win WCS, unless they hammer down Zerg with a major patch (undeserved imo).

Sounds like something TLO would try, and then lose

Takes 4 biles to 1 shot an egg, that's 4 ravager=400/400 + overlord speed = 500/500. Even assuming you wouldn't lose the droperlord to queens, you just can't afford that.

When Rogue beat Maru in a bo5 pre patch, the two games Maru won were ones that didn't go late (he won g1 with marine pressure, and g2 with cheese).
The raven nerf would change nothing in that series. If anything it would have helped Maru, because it means he'll have to play aggressive and not turtle to lategame. The two games he won vs Rogue were him being hyper aggressive in the early game, not turtling.
On June 03 2018 03:12 yangluphil wrote: Probably a meme strat but does anyone ever try to use droplords to constantly drop a few ravagers to snipe eggs between bases.
I imagine queens would just laugh at that
drop ravagers on the edge of the base, let ravagers walk to the base and fire, then come back to be picked up by droplords waiting at the edge. Queen would have to chase ravagers to the edge and then may be able to fire a few volleys at the the droplords, missing injects without killing anything.

good point on raven nerf being relevant in that particular series. I think Rogue was saying he just wasn't good in ZvT since he let himself go since winning blizzcon so he had to cheese.
I don't know why I expect Scarlett to win a ZvZ against a halfway-competent player these days. She must have used all her skill in the matchup up at IEM PC.
Very disappointing performance in a very disappointing year for TRUE. His bracket was set up perfectly for him. ExpecT -> MaNa -> Lambo to Ro8. You have to imagine there's a lot of people who already got eliminated who could've made that work.

Although I do feel like those two results put her expectations far too high, because she's perfoming at her normal level in every other event. It's just those two she did incredible.

A premier with at least some Koreans in it is way better than most foreigners ever do, so it's not like she's exactly on the level of average foreigner

higher peaks and lower lows than average, for sure, that's been the case for basically all her career. still above average overall
Interesting to see a team owner publicly disappointed like this
Yeah that's pretty odd O.o
Ngl I think it's a bit of a crappy thing for the team owner to do. Players can have bad days and Lambo is a decent opponent. True topped his group, he did the best to get a decent seed he could and this is a single elim tournament.

It's been really weird this year though. Most years her highs and lows average out so she usually just has a bunch of average results (last year one Ro8, two Ro16, one non-qual; 2016 one Ro8, one Ro16, one non-qual) but this year it's been super high variance.

Sure just leave your entire army on the other side of the map, don't even bother leaving some behind to defend against possible harassment, what's the worst that could happen?

The number you wrote there tells me that even if she got 16 (= log2(100000)) favored skirmishes in a row (not even counting gaining more map control and economy for each engagement won), she would still lose. That's just atrociously false. I know it's a hyperbole, I'm saying it's a huge one.

I'm not justifying anything, I'm upset that she won one tournament and has completely lost her competitive drive. You should never be happy after getting eliminated from a tournament, especially in such an embarrassing fashion.
Scarlett simply did not take this seriously. Not an excuse but a criticism. 'Low lows or a bad day' is not enough to explain it. She deserves to lose respect for this kind of mental lapses, just as any sportsman in any competitive sports.

I do not say what I said in the thousands of games I watched before this series, 90% of which featured one player who clearly is better than the other in that given series. She might as well just tap out each time she suffers one lost engagement or base. It's not like I'm saying she gave up in a good situation. She played badly. That I as well as anybody DO and should understand.

Oh really? Let's look at her reaction after being eliminated from GSL this last season:
She's straight-faced and thinking in her mind what went wrong. How about last season after getting 3-0'd by soO:
Same reaction as before. She's said multiple times that GSL is more important to her than WCS, so maybe that's why she seemingly doesn't care: this tournament is like a vacation to her. But if that were true she'd be playing in the GSL qualifiers, but she's said that she isn't. I don't know what's going on in her mind, but it's clear that SC2 isn't her only priority right now. She's 24, around the age a lot of players start to retire, and she hasn't had the results that she's had in the past aside from that week she won IEM and advanced to the Ro8 of GSL. She's probably thinking about her future and wondering how much longer she plans on playing this game.

PUBG is still pretty buggy last time I checked, and observing the game is a nightmare since you have to look at 100 perspectives instead of just 2-12 like most games. That combined with Fortnite taking away a lot of viewership doesn't bode well for the game.

It does decent but question is will it last, I dont think they have really found the best format/presentation for tournaments yet it can be pretty frustrating to watch and there is always people complaining about RNG.

In general they don't get many viewers unless they let the streamers play it. Guys like Shroud can add 100K by just being there.
A couple have gotten huge viewerships without them, but that's mostly due to the ridiculous popularity of the game at the time as the hype built around the tournament. I don't see them ever repeating it. Any stream can get high numbers when there's hype and the event is in the news.
It's is a nice concept and I would like to see it suceed, but in terms of quality it's terrible compared to other fps esports.

I'm not justifying anything, I'm just upset that she won one tournament and has completely lost her competitive drive. You should never be happy after getting eliminated from a tournament, especially in such an embarrassing fashion.
The fact she's not crying because of a loss doesn't mean she doesn't care anymore. Nerchio played better and she accepted it, tha's all
I never said that she should be crying, stop putting words in my mouth. Look at any sporting event and tell me how many people are happy after they lose.
You know that there are lots of people who laugh when they are embarassed? I can't forget Dani Alves laughing after being 4-1 by Real Madrid in the UCL finals. Different people react in different ways and btw I always remeber Scarlett reacting like that after a loss
Oh really? Let's look at her reaction after being eliminated from GSL this last season: https://youtu.be/iFi11jqDd4k?t=3300 She's straight-faced and thinking in her mind what went wrong. How about last season after getting 3-0'd by soO: https://youtu.be/vgeLds7z_JA?t=2378 Same reaction as before.
You seem a very passionate fan and prorably understand her better than me , but your assumption still looks very ambitious to me. Hope you are wrong , NA needs Scarlett so badly

It does decent but question is will it last, I dont think they have really found the best format/presentation for tournaments yet it can be pretty frustrating to watch and there is always people complaining about RNG.
Heartstone got a good 3 years of esport with professional coin flipping, I think PUPG is fine.

Be fair, she's absolutely not the kind of person who likes to show too much emotion publicly. That doesn't mean she doesn't care. Though you're right that SC2 isn't the only thing on her mind, that's pretty well known given she goes to things like magic tournaments and reportedly practiced by far the least at the Korea house. On the Pylon show, NoRegret basically called her out for not being as good as she thinks she is and needing to practice more, and I think that's more to blame than not caring.

Shroud usually just gets the viewers on his own channel though like dreamhack yesterday he probably had 3x what the actual tournament stream had, twitch rivals he had like 10x more, I remember some online tournaments he got 150k the tournament stream had nothing vs that. I think Cologne got 150k as the first event but yeah actual tournament streams not doing anywhere near as well lately.

Yeah, I was pretty shocked when that was said. Both that he would reveal that and that she would be so careless(don't know any better word I guess). Well, she's Zerg and I don't like her playstyle, so win-win for me I guess.

I wouldn't go so far to say its trash esport, it has potential just difficult how to present it well and shaping the rules so the pro play isn't so passive.

The concept/game has potential. But it's just bad in terms of production, rng components, bugs, rules etc.

Not in tournaments but it's his race switch for dire situations.
Even though he promised sensei he wouldn't, sometimes a man has to go all-out, you know?
Wow... This was the definition of full NA from Neeb. Game 1 he won, double the supply of opponent, just kill 3rd and defend 15 probes up. Game 2 nice defence, quite far ahead, double expand and move out and throw away 3/4 army for no reason.
Felt like I was watching some random toss on NA ladder lol

Just dont put all eggs in one basket. Always make sure not all your favorites play vs Poland in the tourney.
Poland 9-0 vs non-Poland in RO16. Also I wonder what the odds are on Serral taking the tournament without dropping a map. Not that great, clean runs are rare, but certainly possible.

Against Heromarine and Lambo/Nerchio it's quite possible, but I'd be very surprised if he didn't drop at least a game in the finals (assuming he does make it there).
