we need a new stephano First we'd need someone like that. Then we'd need them to get opportunities to prove themselves against Koreans.

Oh totally. Same with people who only want Koreans. Players like Nerchio/Showtime are good enough to compete with most Koreans so I don't know why people wouldn't want them around.

we need a new stephano We would first need more global events though. From now on we will only see Scarlett in GSL and then BlizzCon.
Plus the Korea vs World event I guess.

Ah cmon that's just not true. It's just that personally i followed the korean scene way more and thus have more players i care about in that scene. It's as simple as that. Why did i pretty much only follow that scene? Because it was (and still is) the scene with the highest lvl of gameplay, the most content, the most interesting tournament structures, etc. People care for the players they watch a lot, it's really as simple as that. If blizzard would have been actually good at their job of creating an interesting WCS scene and thus helped develop the foreign talent/star players i would probably also have a lot of foreign players as my favorites. It was done very poorly though.

Yeah. The lack of interest in Starcraft has almost nothing to do with Koreans though. If fewer people play a game over time it will have significantly less viewership. League, Dota 2, Csgo etc have orders of magnitude more players playing the game/interested in general. There really is no secret here

snute was like 17th wcs place iirc before they started region locking cups. he almost got to blizzcon without any charity tournaments. I fully believe that nerchio, showtime, scarlett etc with their current skill level would be able to get in without region locked cups giving out WCS points

People who cheer for Koreans do it for the skill; personality second. People who cheer for Foreigners do it for personality first. Then skill (for that foreign "hope").
No doubt, I also cheer for skilled foreigners; but let's be honest and admit that foreigners who can go toe-to-toe with Koreans is extremely rare.
