Ukraine vs Russia for one qualifying spot is literally the worst possible thing for our community which immediately spoils such a wonderful tournament, but well... Nothing we can do here except of making this match as friendly as possible. Hope we'll see good games there!
last year it was double elim for the countries to qualify, this year the weaker nations will have less chance to perform, sad TT (well I'm just a bit salty that my country Vietnam has to meet the defending champion right from the start)

Last year it was single elim 4 man brackets * 4 + 12 countries invited. I don't think this is harder for weaker countries.

Unless you were facing Canada or Ukraine (or US or Brazil), then it totally was. You only need to win 1 match, but you have a much greater chance of facing a top team from last year. Here, because this has most of if not all of the teams from last year, it means that your chance of running into a good team from the start is greater than 50%
Here, I estimate that around 20 or so teams are good or above, whereas for the qualifier last year, about half were good or above. Brackets 3 and 4 were noticeably weaker than Brackets 1 or 2.
Still a bit salty that we have no solar/soO for korea. Imo it would be really cool to see forced zerg/terran/toss even though i can understand that some countries would have a hard time in that case
R.I.P Croatia, whoever you are France v. Vietnam, back to the 50s UK v. USA, well this is getting funny Ukraine v. Russia, guys try not to be too hard on each other TW v. Japan, speaking of historical grievances Spain v. Sweden, Catholic League v. Protestant League Germany vs Switzerland, but we can sell gold to them my Führer BTW Zest is not quite in form these days, Stats should be the Korean Protoss... wait where is the Korean Zerg?
How was the seeding done? Seems like it's pretty much stronger country vs weaker country. Norway vs New Zealand and Denmark vs Brazil would be my pick for closest matches.
Poor Bulgaria the only team with 0 liquipedia players and they have to face imba Poland

Well they did not forfeited, they were told "you gonna play or gt*o" from both admins and one redactor frome ogaming. You know the issue is Nolimit and nExt are both students and they both have exam today. Exams is not something you can skip... not when you are told a day ahead when you play.
They both came with an offer that they can arrive around 15:00 CET from schools and they can actually play. But because uThermal needs to go god knows where at 14:00 and he is a celebrity, they got cucked pretty hard.
I have the entire skype conversation with me, but players told me to not start any drama. But here is the fact why we "forfeited" because 2 from 3 players actually care about their real lives

It wasn't bait, Rotti said on the main stream that they forfeited because they didn't think they could beat the Netherlands. And I was questioning why they would.

I'm glad we got to know the real reason for the forfeit and I think Phara is just upset and was not trying to start any drama tbh.
Exams are important and a way better reason to forfeit than the one we were given.

Very suprising since this tournament features a ton of amateurs and part-time players. But obviously it's very hard to schedule with teams from all over the world. Christams being on the weekend also makes it harder.
I guess for the qualifiers, casting replays and letting the teams schedule the matches themselves for this week would've been best.

2b roaches with a quick speed that were there to defend the cyclone/hellion opening while going for a hidden spire. Smart gameplan, average play by Byun = a well deserved win.
Zest is supposed to be the weak link, especially during the online part, why not.
Zest is just gonna do the 2 archon drop perfectly and that's that.
Here is the DT shrine.
I saw Solar play vs Zest on ladder the other day. Solar got lings in on Whirlwind and killed lots of probes and unpowered all of Zest's buildings. Zest couldn't take a 3rd base until 10 minutes. But Zest still almost brought it back with great micro (not just on the archons).

Sure. Please tell me how you abuse "forfeiting a game". There is nothing. The rule is utter bullshit. If a player can't compete why not just give the team a loss.
http://nationwars.tv/img/HandbookNationWars4.pdf Don't see anything specific about the situation mentioned there. The closest one is about a player disconnecting and then not being able to reconnect, which just makes him lose the map not DQ the team.

How to abuse it? Alright.
A country only has two good players. They sign up a third unknown who they never intend to play, just taking a loss in order to have enough players to compete in the tournament.
Regardless, this was an established rule. The time for bitching about whether it's a good rule or not is before the tournament starts, not only once it becomes relevant.

"You know what would be great? If a player from a small nation has personal problems and can't play, how about he not only loses the game. How about we also DISQUALIFY the entire rest of the team for it. Wouldn't that be AMAZING to DQ players who did absolutely nothing wrong?"

There four people in every team for a reason. It is a professional tournament, if a player can't attend his team still has a back up.
In this case I guess croatia took the risk to sign only 3 players, that's unfortunate.
Ukraine is super strong. Dimaga is playing a ton again and I saw him play and beat most top EU players on stream. Kas looked pretty good just now and Bly is super scary in bo1s and online in general.

I understand that in the rules, you cannot revive until all three players played. So that you don't revive the first player for the second game which could be practical in some scenarios. BUT !!
Here it's not that case, the third player forfaited, so he wouldn't have played the game. Why not just count the third player as a lose so the score is 2-3 for Korea, and let Croatia revive ?
latency is an issue but still some more aggressive play style might work out better. Congrats to Italy. Nice to see young players like Reynor and Time perform
Did they update the production tab images for the old skin (mutated overlord and such) with this patch or were they like that before 3.8 broke them as well? I don't remember them looking like that.
The famous Ptak, man you either love or hate, but one thing is certain: a living legend. His only two losses in the tournamet were to Flash and Kal. The eventual finalists of the event. In sc2, he quickly found his feet again going to WCG 2011 grand finals, but failing to advance from his group (Huk, Snute, Morrow, Ptak - he only beat Morrow). This NationWars are kinda reminescent of the Olympics for me, it's a chance to see up and coming players who might not be world class level, but can still provide upset through unsual strategies, producing really entertaining games in my opinion. I mean, as a french guy, I was still rooting for Meomaika when he killed that warp prism, I would have loved to see ptitdrogo's face when those hydras came out of fucking nowhere. That was an interesting strategy, I like players trying to figure things on their own and not only copy the standard metagame of every match up. And cut those guys some slack, this is probably the first time those players are being watched by 6k people, you would get nervous too and make unsual mistakes aswell.

We already knew this was going to happen. Granted, the UK doesn't have any good players aside from Demuslim, but I already expected nothing from this team aside from Neeb.

Being the best foreign terran isn't so hard when theres only like 5.
When you're a really good foreign Terran, you get a lot of attention though. Like Bunny, MarineLorD or uThermal. I mean in 2015 Demuslim may as well have been considered a full time caster/streamer.
Puck is a pretty decent player and Overgrowth isn't a bad map.
Every Korean I've seen play TvP on Overgrowth goes for a 2-base tank push into the 3rd while taking their own 3rd, gets forcefielded and does no damage and dies 5 minutes later against the maxed out colossus army.

But in 2012, he was giving nerd chills beating NesTea with Mech on Shakuras Pleatau!!!

Well, he won a premier tournament in Korea, winning the finals in a 4-0 sweep. Very difficult not to disappoint after a peak like that.
Well of course I didn't expect him to win Blizcon, but still he got trash at HSC, didn't do to well at Blizcon, didn't qualify to IEM korea, and his online performance as been on and of.

2012 was forever ago (hence the again). I'm seeing parallels between Demuslim and Chelsea. Chelsea won CL in 2012 and now they're actually good again.

Well I think he was only really impressive in PvP?
He was really good in all match-up in wcs beating Nerchio, Hydra, Polt ect...
um, no
He is over 65% in pvz and 70% pvt in LOTV before Blizzcon
well for starters he never beat Nerchio offline, didn't play any PvT at Kespa Cup and almost lost a PvZ to Pet
Ok he lost the one time he played Nerchio offline 3-2, but he still beat him online a couple of time and he was beating other top zerg a lot of the time. His pvt was also looking like one of the best in the world he even 4-0 Byun one time I think

It looked like by far his worst match-up in macro games. Extremely shaky and with multiple tournament exits at the hands of WCS Terrans.
I mean he lost like what once to Marinelord, once to Polt and once to Masa in KTN final. He was still looking like the best pvt player in wcs
Out of the like 5 relevant Protoss players in WCS he was probably the best one against Terran sure. Although I don't think it was much of a difference between him and Showtime.
Damn DeMuslim didn't scout that well enough or its an easy hold. Maybe even a hold if he wasn't caught outside his natural. Interesting. LETS GO RISKY!!
It's good to get rid of Habitation now. I wouldn't want a TvP ace match on that map and it's decent for Zerg so Risky might even be able to do something.

Habitation can be okay for terran imo. But Vaani is better.

It's the most obnoxious TvP map on ladder because every game is pylon rush into stargate and even when you know it's coming it's not easy to hold. And obviously Vaani is way better for Terran (if not somewhat imbalanced).
Okay even when you're up that much supply I don't think you should be able to teleport all your units into 5 tanks, 2 liberators, a bunker and a decent amount of stimmed bio and win the fight with no trouble whatsoever.
Like, it would have been nice if that fight had been any close considering how bad of an engagement that technically was.

Against tanks and liberators teleporting on top of them is probably the best engagement you can get.
I have a question guys. Will all the english casted matches be uploaded onto youtube or do I HAVE TO subscribe to Ogaming's Twitch channel just to watch the VoD's? :V I really want to see all the matches, but they have all their VoD's blocked behind the subscription wall, both on oGaming and oGamingInter.

I mean he didn't even split the adepts a bit to reduce tank splash and he parked right in the liberator zones. It looked goddamn horrendous. It defies all logic that this play was good.

If you don't stream it during a french-friendly time, you will miss the opportunity to make money and organise a tournament at all.
it is unfortunate that they will have to adapt their sleep schedule but it's not on purpose

Don't be that negative. I think this group will show the most surprises : - Korea which lost already 2 games against Croatia - A surprising Kelazhur against Denmark - Canada with a Scarlett which we never now at which level she will be (between medium and super sayen) - Sweden with an all zerg lineup (zerg can never be predicted, they are zergs !)
I think this group will show the best matches. I'm really hyped about it ! Blood! Blood! Blood! :-)
Props to Zombiegrub! She meshes really well with the top tier commentators. Would like to see her commentate less with rifkin, more with the big dogs. There is definitely a noticeable energetic difference with who she is commentating with. Surroundings mean everything. Go Zombiegrub!

What games were played on what maps for the Sweden/Spain, Australia/Romania, Mexico/Peru series? I'm sure there's some Liquipedia people who want to know.
I just realised that the Group USA matches take place in about 9 hours' time, but it's still not on the TL events sidebar. I almost scheduled an appointment that would've caused me to miss them!
Many of us consult the TL events calendar way in advance so it'd be good if the NW team updates it as early as possible.
Excellent production - games flowed well and the product you've got is obviously great. Casters were fab and extremely professional. Bringing tweets forward and being shouted about by the casters allowed for interaction.
Negatives: 1.Wearing those huge headsets yet they were in a studio seemed unusual - you'd expect an ear piece and a subtle mic at best - how noisy is that studio?! 2. Casters standing up all day - pretty gruelling schedule to have no seating.
Ideas Potential competition - you have a $30,000 prize pool so there must be some form of social media budget - you had 7,000 people watching and in SC2 terms that's pretty good these days, which shows people are willing to come back - why not have a share and follow Facebook / Twitter campaign and the winner gets X. Seems a no brainer, a win for short term viewers and a win for long term SC2 viewers.
Just my thoughts - gg's wp. Getting back in to the SC2 scene myself and this has totally helped!
