Looking at WCS rankings (for EU player exclusively), the list would be:
1. Showtime
2. Nerchio
3. Snute
4. Elazer
5. PtitDrogo
6. Uthermal
7. Harstem
8. SortOf
(Followed by)
(Bly)
(Firecake)
(MarineLord)

You're not looking at a hugely different list, really. I also think that it'd be nice for a tournament to not use the WCS system, as it's already used for/in almost everything... Though it does feel a bit arbitrary. What about the barcode person? Or how ML was taken over Welmu?

That should be very interesting! Good luck for all, but for event organizer, Bly and Strange in the first places! ^^
It would be nice to see more players from the CIS in this tournament. They should try hard to qualify...

There is, but it should be held in September/October. Cannot tell you more as I'm only responsible for the European one.

If you're following WC3, HS, CS:GO or Dota 2 scene, you could already see WCA qualifiers in those titles. This is WCA official website - http://www.wca.com.cn/wca2016/index.html
This is, for example, Hearthstone announcement on GosuGamers.

Unfortunately Sioras is not able to take part in European qualifiers as Mongolia belongs to APAC Qualifiers of our tournament according to our Chinese partners.

fr MarineLorD declined his spot and we replaced him with rs Beastyqt.

Am i blind or it doesn't say anywhere how many players actually qualify from the main event to wca?

Looking at the bracket on liquipedia it gives a prize pool for the qualifier but no info about how many spots you can get

That's because it has not been announced yet. It is really tricky to find information about the main event and qualifying system. WCA's website is in Chinese, and not very well organized imo.
