Calendar: RO16:
Wednesday, May 07 4:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00): Norway vs Netherlands
Wednesday, May 07 6:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) Sweden vs Denmark
Wednesday, May 14 5:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) Mexico vs Finland
Wednesday, May 14 7:30pm GMT (GMT+00:00) Ukraine vs Spain
Wednesday, May 21 5:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) Poland vs United Kingdom
Wednesday, May 21 7:30pm GMT (GMT+00:00) Germany vs Canada
Wednesday, May 28 5:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) Italy vs Russia
Wednesday, May 28 7:30pm GMT (GMT+00:00) United States vs France
RO8: Sunday, Jun 01 11:00am GMT (GMT+00:00)
Finals: Saturday, Jul 26 9:00am GMT (GMT+00:00)
The first cash prize is of $9,600. A bonus will be added thanks to the crowd funding we launched. The community will congratulate the players by giving money to higher the cash prize. Indeed, you will be able to add money to the cash prize during the live for the first time on Starcraft II !
Votes: Wednesday, Apr 30 4:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) to Saturday, May 03 4:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00)
Every player who wants to apply for NationWars has to have been Grand Master or been in WCS in 2014. Some exemption could be accepted for countries who do not have enough players. Then, the community gets to vote for the best players of each selection, and give them a chance to stand for their country and colours! Votes will occur from the 30th of April to the 3rd of May.
3 players will represent each country.
The tournament would have $9,600 as a cash prize. But we woud like to offer a bigger show to the community.
Nation Wars II is a crowdfundable tournament. You can choose to fund the finals' production expenses and take the matches onstage at Le Trianon, Music Hall, Paris, or to donate directly to the tournaments cash prize and raise the stakes by giving a tip to players and thrill of the games !
I loved NationWars I and I'm pretty sure NationWars II will be even more awesome I only have one question though, you state that the "community gets to vote for the best players of each selection" which implies that you are preselecting out of the players that have applied to play, right? If that is the case, how exactly are you planning on "preselecting"? What are the criterias who gets in and who gets out?

Naniwa retired. That might make things a bit smoother and drama-free.
And please, get Day[9] and TB together again for the English casting. Those guys are the best casting duo I've ever heard.
But tbh you could have announced 10 000 dollars from the start, 9600 is a RIDICULOUS statement ( and don't fucking tell me you could not find 400 dollars kek )

Yea, I wish Korea was invited as well. Would create fun storylines for other countries coming up with ways to try and beat them. Taiwan and China would be cool as well.
But other than that this looks great and I'm really glad they are doing offline finals!

Had they invited Korea they would have just had 2 sides of the bracket. Korea waiting in the finals and the 16 others on the other side
Poor US team, probably going to get smashed. Glad to see this extended and to see a possible UK team, will be good exposure for our lesser known players.

Actually, if the second goal of the crowdfunding is achieved (165k€) they will invite Korea in a showmatch Bo9 against the winner of NationWars II. This showmatch would be played after NationWars Finals in August.
It's kinda sad that the crowfunding page has not been translated in english for non-speaking french people who want to contribute. Even if all the considerations won't be useful for international audiences. 140k€ is a huge amount and it would be much better if the whole sc2 community can help .
However this event is gonna be siiiick !! Nationwars I was awesome. I don't know if i will come to the venue but i will do my best to get there !

I find some of the invites a bit questionable. Switzerland at this point is a lot more competitive than italy or mexico :/
Also disappointed that you decided to go with the format that doesn't actually decide which country is better. Is there any motivation behind allkill rather than proleague format?
Wow this sounded negative, good job puting the tournament together
Im bit sceptical about donation split. Production costs can't be so high as they say. I understand they want high quality but still. You realy need 50 000€ to run show/stream?
Like step 2, Winner NWII vs S.Korea. Bo9, prize pool of 5000 € but productions costs are already 15 000 €...? (Games played online)
After step 2 (I think unlikely), " If the second Step is reached, and if the pledges go above 165.000 euros, any additional donation will be split betwwen the Production of the NATIONWARS Tournament (50%) and the Tournament CashPrize (50%)."
50/50? More money for production? What you gonna do bigger and better?

Kebabs are almost free.
It costs between 200 and 500 € to produce an one hour show.

Protoss: Puckk or Minigun Zerg: Suppy or Guitarcheese Terran: I hope Neeb gets it. Xenocider or QXC might have a bigger fan base, but I think Neeb's WCS run and future potential has earned him a spot on this team.

What would you think of a French team "Dayshi, FireCake, Lilbow"?? I guess this team would be amazing with one of the best Terran in the world, Lilbow micro monster and FireCake macro monster ! Amazing and thrilling !
145k Euro? You will never ever ever get that from this community.
Thanks for doing this again though, starcraft needs something like this and I'd love to see offline finals to bring more attention to team competitions.

The french community already funded some smaller but comparable sums (20/30 k) in the past, for projects who were unarguebely not as promising (like 25 k to a guy who wanted to buy stuff to launch a webTV, same sum to a guy who wanted to organize a small tournament - which resulted in The Underdogs I think but not sure)

MMA, Mvp, ForGG and other Koreans who switched to NA/EU have their rankings boosted by the fact that they win a lot against foreigners. Maru probably wins less, but he's matched against more skilled players.

Compared to the old SCBW and WC3 nationwars the sc2 ones were pretty boring... i also dislike the qualify system. In the old days everyone with the proper skill had a chance to qualify for the nationalteam by winning qualifier tournaments. Now popularity seems to be the most important "skill".

Looking at the list I get depressed as usual. When we can't even field someone like SaSe and have players who barely makes ro16 in the wcs quals instead you know the talent is being wasted.

Because it's the players who sign up by themselves. If they don't want to participate, they simply don't sign up =/

Yeah ToD's shape is questionable at best.
Lol. Lilbow is debatable yeah, but firecake get rekt by ToD or Phano EZ.
Also last time we've let Zidane play (after his semi-retirement ) in the world cup we went to the finals so i guess its not a bad choice. The Stephano, ToD, Dayshi choice is more than a skill based one, its an history based one. Each of these player has marked the french scene in its own way, this IS our all star team. Trust your instinct and believe in it, they will go far.
Not that anyone cares but my votes for the whole tournament :
Ukraine by far the hardest vote. I kid ofc still a solid team for them though.
I was surprised to see Ourk missing from team UK but we still have some very solid players so we might do pretty decently, don't see us winning the whole thing though, too many teams with much stronger players.

Says the manager of Firecake's team ?
I went to Aligulac because only Dayshi is a no-brainer and I don't know who I should choose next.
ToD is both the highest ranked player (after Dayshi ofc) and the one with the best recent results (61,3% winrate, we can notice he's strong versus P and Z but weak versus T)
MarineLord not being subscribed, Stephano is the next highest ranked player but his winratio his slightly worse than Lilbow's one (55% versus 61%). However, Stephano's results are skewed by the fact that he hasn't played a lot recently.
Firecake and Downfall have both inferior ranking and results (Downfall's winratio is better but his match history shows that he plays a lot of lesser-known French players.)
So I'll vote for ToD, Dayshi, and I'll choose Stephano over Lilbow so we have one player of each race but this is a hard decision...

Don't let Aligulac fool you. Winrates that matter:
In terms of France it is clear that their strongest line-up is Dayshi, ToD and Stephano. Dayshi had a great WCS EU Season 1 topping his group (beating San along the way) and is performing well for Millenium in the ATC, ToD recently made it through the WCS EU Season 2 qualifiers and had a great run in DreamHack, and Stephano is, well, Stephano.
Not only is this a good line-up but it is also balanced perfectly with a Terran, a Zerg and a Protoss.

I'm sorry Downfall that I had to betray you after the lobbying I did for you in the first season but my love for Stephano is unreasonable. Also I've tried to pick as much as possible one player per race in every team. So Lilbow, Dayshi and Stephano for France.
@O'Gaming Why don't you have a "Submit all" button rather than one "Vote" button per country ? It would be much more ergonomic.

@O'Gaming Why don't you have a "Submit all" button rather than one "Vote" button per country ? It would be much more ergonomic.
What about le Tod? He did pretty well at Dreamhack.
Nice DeMu BlinG JReeco are going to get the picks for UK, thats perfect I think they might cause a few upsets myself too. 3 solid players who can do anything on their day as you can see from their results. BlinG getting decently far in WCS last season, DeMu getting back into EU ladder farming and has a chance for Premier this season at his first attempt. JReeco performing decently in team leagues.

This is how you choose the best players, top lel.
A dutch team isn't the ''national dutch team'' without Grubby & Ret. They're the Netherlands' most known players. Can't really go without them regardless of how inferior they might be.
Alright, looks like the teams have been selected!! I had a quick look at the teams and it looks like France together with Poland is fielding the strongest overall teams with 3 premier league players, using the number of Premier League players per team as an indicator of current form and strength. USA could reach the same level if Xenocider beats HerO in the challenger.
Teams with 3 current premier league players in the line-up France Poland
Teams with 2 current premier league players in the line-up Denmark Netherlands UK USA*
Teams with 1 current premier league players in the line-up Canada** Finland Germany Mexico Norway Russia Spain
Teams with 0 current premier league players in the line-up Italy Sweden Ukraine
*USA will have 3 PL players if xenocider wins his challenger match **Canada will have 2 PL players if Scarlett wins her challenger match
So yeah, sky high favorites to win this are team France (on their home turf) together team Poland, possibly together with Team USA, threatened by Denmark, Netherlands and UK.
Total outsiders: Proud SC2 nations such as Team Sweden and Team Ukraine
Interesting, but I think this numbers can be deceiving. For instance, Norway has only one player in Premier but he's the best foreigner in the world *. And this is All-kill format.
* okay, one of the best I'm atrociously biased toward Snute.

Yeah, it is All-kill, but I don't think even Snute will be able to all-kill Norway to a second grand victory on his own, that is a tall order. He will need Targa and Eiki to back him up.
All hail Germany, Russia and UK, the only three nations to field one player from each race. Also props to Italy for being the only team to field two terrans, what insanity!

Just backed €50. I would have backed €120 to get a ticket to attend this event and the after party but unfortunately I'm away on the 26th July and it's not something I can get out of.
I hope it is a success so it comes round again on a date I can attend. I have yet to go to a live StarCraft event and I wish to remedy that ASAP.
Sweden - Finland earliest in the final. Hmm. But what a final that would be!
Denmark is a great opponent! Bunny appears to be as good as he ever was. BBK, a very tough opponent, hasn't looked too sharp lately, eh? I saw some of SpaceMarine in the WCS qualifiers, not to be underestimated!
But yeah, the Swedish line-up is a bit lackluster in the results department. Zanster had a good run in DH recently, Morrow some mixed results... no idea where Miniraser stands at all.
Probable nightmare result: Bunny to all-kill team Sweden
After speaking with EmpireStranger , manager of Team Russia , i devicided to give up my slot in team Russia . Stranger told i play too bad and can't competite on this tournament , include of my fails on Dreamhack Bucharest and WCS S2 .

I'm sorry, but that is not really how it works. For good or worse, the organizers have decided to let fans vote for their players, as opposed to e.g., having a coach picking its team, or, organizing a national qualifier competition. The fans have voted you into Team Russia and expect to see you in NationWars.
Of course you can play if you were able to sign up and got voted through
Every player who wants to apply for NationWars has to have been Grand Master or been in WCS in 2014. Some exemption could be accepted for countries who do not have enough players. Then, the community gets to vote for the best players of each selection, and give them a chance to stand for their country and colours!

Wow Canada vs Germany in first round. Thats some shitty luck, considering they are like 2/3 of the top 3 foreign sc2 countries (Germany, Norway, Canada)
TargA, currently playing for Imaginary Gaming, is the Norway's captain, who won last edition of NationWars.
Hello TargA. Four months ago, Norway became the first champion of NationWars. What did you feel when you made your country win?
TargA: "I think we were the only team that had two ace players, so either me or Snute could start or finish the matches. We also have very different play styles so it makes harder for our opponents even though we play the same race. We also had a wildcard player, Eiki, who surprised me and Snute and was able to take down some big players. We also took it very seriously, putting a lot of effort and thought in to who's starting, what maps should be vetoed and saved."
A lot of people did not forecast the victory of Norway for NationWars. Do you feel you managed to change community's point of view about Norway?
TargA: "I read some of the comments of the TL post and I think people kinda forgot that we won, some are listing Sweden as favorites for some absurd reason, so I don't think we changed the communitys point of view, but I bet all the other nations have Norway as favorites to win."
You kept exactly the same squad as the past edition with Snute and Eiki. Do you think you are stronger than before?
TargA: "Me and Snute are stronger than last time, not too sure about Eiki since he's finishing up his last year of school, but hopefully he can protoss his way to a few wins!"
What do you think about your first match against the Netherlands? What will be the key to win?
TargA: "For our match against Netherlands, I don't think it matters who start, Me, Snute or Eiki are all capable of all killing them. I think they will have to get really lucky in order to win a map."
Who would you like to face next if you win: Sweden or Denmark?
TargA: "We would like to play Sweden since they are the weaker team, but I don't fear Denmark too much. Will be an easy match anyways!"
Ret, currently playing for TeamLiquid, is the Netherlands's Captain.
Hello Ret. You are the captain of the Netherlands for its first participation to NationWars. What do you think about your squad?
Ret: " I think our squad is very solid! Grubby needs no introduction and Harstem & uThermal have been owning lately! Harstem you can't really say hes an up & comer anymore, hes been posting solid results at the top of europe for over a year now. uThermal recently qualified for WCS twice and his TvZ could help us out tremendously! I have to practice my ass off to try and not be the weak link in this line-up!"
uThermal will replace Grubby and a big part of the community think that it could be a good thing for the Netherlands. What's your opinion about it?
Ret: " Yeah, considering Grubby has been on holidays and likely hasn't practiced as much as he usually does, I think uThermal is a great replacement. He's on fire recently and I'm sure he'll do well."
You are going to face the NationWars I's champion, Norway. What do you think about this team?
Ret: " Obviously Norway has a great line-up. Snute has to be considered as the best foreigner at this point with his recent results. He's just an insane player. TargA is not much worse than Snute, and also a top european player. Eiki is dangerous too. However, I think we can take them"
What will be the key to win this match against them?
Ret: "Taking out Snute fast!"
Who would you like to face next if you win: Sweden or Denmark?
Ret: " I'd like to play Denmark so we can play babyknight & bunny. No particular reason, I just like the Danish team."
Eiki After having won NM SpillExpo 2013, Eiki can boast he is the National champion in Norway. This protoss is the best player of the rising team Karnage eSports and is able to show very interesting things. Always good at online competitions and in ladder, Eiki was the revelation of NationWars by taking very important points.
Snute Snute is one the most amazing and respectable player in Europe. Second at HomeStory Cup VII, winner at HomeStory Cup VI, he shined in many other other tournaments like SeatStory Cup or TakeTV Ultra Invitationa. The MVP of NationWars I is in shape and seems able to beat any player in the world thanks to his very lovely style. His experience in Proleague and in WCS NA could give to Norway a very good weapon to secure the second title of NationWars.
Targa The Norwegian Captain had a remarkable run to the semi-finals at 2012 DreamHack Open: Valencia and is one of the rare Zergs able to scare all the European players. This charismatic player managed to create a wonderful team spirit during NationWars I and will be the key of the Norwegian success.
Harstem Harstem is a macro-oriented Protoss playing for Fnatic. Third at TeSL 2013 - 2014: Season 1, he is known as one of the European Protoss and just managed to qualify one more time in Premier League.
uThermal uThermal just managed to qualify for Premier League with an incredible style. This Terran is one of the European hot prospect who can surprise the viewers during NationWars. In a big shape, this player, who currently plays for AT Gaming, will be threatened by all his opponents.
Ret The Captain of the Netherlands was a top player in Europe and is the eldest of the squad. His experience in GSL and all the top tournaments he participated will be an interesting asset for his country.
Miniraser is a Fnatic player and was elected by the other Swedish players as a captain.
Thank you for accepting this crossed interview together. Hello Miniraser, the Swedish players elected you as the captain of Sweden. What do you think about the Swedish squad?
Miniraser: "It is a decent squad. I am a bit sad we are missing my good friend NaNiwa."
Your opponent is Denmark, which is a new country in NationWars. Are you happy with the draw?
Miniraser: "I think Denmark is pretty dangerous to play since there is a revive card whereas Bunny is really good. BabyKnight also is dangerous but I think Bunny is a bit more scary at the moment."
Who would you like to meet in Ro8 if you win: Norway or Netherlands?
Miniraser: "I want to face the Netherlands because it would be fun to play vs Harstem."
BabyKnight is currently playing for Millenium and is the Danish captain.
Thank you for accepting this interview. You were chosen to be the captain of Denmark for its first participation to NationWars. How does your team feel the competition?
Babyknight: "We're very excited to be a part of NationWars! We believe there are a lot of strong nations out there, but we're definitely one of them. If we are able to play our best and maybe get a little bit lucky, I believe we can win the whole thing!"
You are going to face Sweden. Are you happy with the draw?
Babyknight: "Yes. We are going to destroy them."
What will be the key to win this match against them?
Babyknight: "An end result being 4-0, 4-1, 4-2 or 4-3."
Who would you like to face next if you win: Norway or Netherlands?
Babyknight: "Either will do. We're not scared of anyone!"
Miniraser Miniraser is a young Zerg player playing for Fnatic. Qualified for Ironsquid II, he stands as a reliable player with regular and good performances.
Morrow Thorzain is not available because of his studies and Sjow just switched to Protoss. MorroW is the best Terran in Sweden at the moment and performed more and more in several tournaments thanks to his new mech style.
Zanster Zanster showed recently an amazing level in online tournaments, beating some Koreans at Dreamhack thanks to his skyrocketing APM. The Fnatic player is one of the hot prospect in Europe and performed a lot in many cups. Being the best Swedish Zerg should not be enough for this 16 year old player and he obviously wants to show to Europe how sick he can be.
Babyknight Time goes by and Babyknight is still one of the top Protoss in Europe. Still in Premier League, the Millenium player has skill, charism and experience to carry his country in NationWars to the victory.
Bunny Bunny is one of the top European player at the moment. Since his transfer to Team Liquid, the young Terran has levelled up and crushed a lot of top players, especially to reach the top 8 in the last Dreamhack.
Spacemarine Spacemarine is a very good Protoss, who is currently playing for Team Gravity. He succeeded in many online cups thanks to tailored all-ins and his creativity will be a harmful weapon for his opponents.
Norway is the champion and faces a huge step today. However, their great team spirit and choices of maps & players have been good in NationWars and this experience seems priceless. Indeed, Netherlands has an amazing line-up with three players who partipated to Premier League in Europe. uThermal could be the silver bullet of his countries to beat the Norwegian swarm. The young Terran has a wonderful TvZ and has recently beaten Zanster, FireCake and SortOf.
Yet, Snute looks too strong at the moment and the Netherlands may have to kill him twice with a revive.
Both Denmark and Sweden have hot prospects and are becoming more and more impressive. Denmark has a very interesting line-up. Like the Netherlands, it is the first time they play NationWars and experience might lack. Sweden has a culture of winning in eSports and completely failed NationWars. This new squad, carried by Miniraser, wants to take its revenge and win. Zanster showed interesting things in ZvT, crushing recently Ryung and even Bunny.
The latter should be the ace of the Danish line-up and remains one of the best non-korean player at the moment. He could bring the victory to Denmark
Predictions: Norway > Netherlands Sweden < Denmark
Not long ago Sweden seemed to totally dominate the other nordic countries, but that's obviously not the case anymore. Denmark is going to be a very tough opponent and they are the favourite, but I think we can beat them. Zanister even took one set from Naniwa right before he started to not give a fuck, and Morrow played pretty well during dreamhack I think.
Although the Danish squad is seriously handicaped by the fact thar there's no Protoss for Bunny to kill in the Swedish team, they should still take it. As for the other match GOOOOOOGOOO SNUUUUTE !
It is more like every other nation other than Korea with 5 pro players war... jk. not really. Very interesting game by Snute and Harstem. I wonder if the island expos are going to be much more popular from now on.
So... are there English VODs of this anywhere? According to the above Khaldor was supposed to have cast this, but I am finding nothing related to this on his Twitch or Youtube pages.
