Otherwise so much larva and minerals goes into lings anyway. Seems kinda silly to me. It was pretty much the sole reason hydra lost this game; got behind early and snowballed.
Yes it does make sense to get a roach warren out of safety and make some defensive roaches if you see something unusual, its just that zergs have forgotten about it for some reason.

Zergs haven't fully adjusted to the recent mass switch to mech yet

SHHHH don't give them any ideas  . I used to have a really hard time with early roaches.

it depends on when to get what.
Getting a safe roach warren is good, but how early is the problem. you could get an extra queen or spine as well.
It's a bit like the proxy oracle in TvP, do you really want to get that ebay this early, if you knew it was DT coming, you could delay your ebay for a bit in favor for something else

Depends on your scouting/what you know of your opponent. You don't want to get roaches if he's going just 6 hellions straight into 3cc bio play, but you definately want roaches against bigger number of hellions with banshees/BF/mech etc.
