Well congratulations to the winner

But why did they only needed ONE match ? i thought in playoff it was always 2 (or 3) best of 7.

STX had to win FIVE matches
and they won all of them

WJS had to win one match
and they lost

Still it makes no sense, if it is a best of 3 in both the quarters and the semis, why isn´t it in the finals ? Or like STX coming from the losers bracket, having to win twice whereas WJ has to win only ones? I have no problem with STX winning or so, I just find it strange to make the playoffs BO3, but not the finals.

The finals are BO1 because they aren't gonna rent out a large venue for 3 days. It's been this way since BW, iirc.
edit: Yes - since 2008-2009 they've been using this same format. Before that, they used 1 BO7 in all rounds.
When in doubt, lubricate!

I'm guessing because WJS were on a 2 game winning streak and tied up the series, so Trap needed to stop their momentum and retake the lead for STX.

Ah ok, thanks for the info I still think it is a bit weird, but I can understand that they want it to happen all in one session.

The "usual" prize amount is smaller than this year's Proleague, which had a total prize pool of somewhere between 250k and 300k USD

At some point during BW the final was two series followed by a "Super Ace" game if needed. The result was very low attendance the first day. Given the cost of venue, it was just not worth it.

Having only one series for the final rises the stakes. The first place team still got the advantage of having so long to prepare, so it's not unfair to them.

It was pretty good. PlayXP said something like 1000 people when the matches started, but the crowd got progressively larger as the finals went on, and I have no other official numbers.
