Honestly, I view WCS AM more like WCS International Free-For-All now and to me it is interesting because it has a lot of different people, not in spite of it.

They don't call America the melting pot for nothing. Even StarCraft 2 WCS America has players from all regions.

Even got kespa, we got a bit of esf, America, Europe, China, kespa and even an Aussie or two. America is truly the land of equal opportunity.
Did Choya come out of retirement? If not why the fuck is he knocking players out of the WCS America qualifiers if he has no intention of competing if he qualifies?
King choya > Ian (Taiwan player, beat minigun last season) Choya vs ggandol in the 3rd round

idk you have Sound who qualified for Code A last season, ByuL who was there not too long ago, Mini who is probably comparable to hitman as a kespa player, and B4 who was also recently in WCS KR. Also Center and HyuN are playing in this
I'm not entirely sure but he was said to be playing in the qualifiers by hendralisk so it could be
If that's really Hack, he's probably one of the top two players in this thing along with hitman.

I didn't know about all of those names (a few aliases and my carelessness). Pretty much all of those are dangerous in my mind. Don't know much about mini, unless I've just been missing him in PL. Hitman was winning a decent amount. B4 was quite recently Code S, IIRC.

So B4 joined WCS NA, interesting. feel like slowly more GSTL players are going to move to this region and it's basically going to become 30 koreans + 2 EU/NA/Sea players if they keep the rules in place

Yep, and it's horrible for the NA/EU scenes. Europeans can cry all they want about how much better they are than NA players (which they are), but if they had as many Koreans moving into their server if the ping was better, it would be of extreme detriment to their scene. America's not going to hold because the KR to legitimate AM player ratio in this qualifier is like 1:4 if that. It's ridiculous.

I don't blame them for a second. You have to play within the rules established by the people who set them. Doesn't mean that the people who set the rules did it properly.

I still think they should enforce a "you have to live in a region to participate in it" like MMA did during WCS EU or polt is atm (With some exceptions such as Australians and China who don't get their WCS)

Unsure about proleague. because if they make it to ro16, they'll have to ship the player out to live in the states temporarily. Can't see a proleague team expending tons of money for the accomodation of players like Bunny, Journey and Lalapalooza

I dont really get why they dont want any community streams for additional cover? Anyways... liked what Scarlett and the rest did on her stream, looking forward to some more stuff like that
At the end of the day they're justified in what they're doing, NASL wants those viewers and without authorization they'll see suppy/scarlett as taking the viewers. It happened last qualifier when MLG asked NASL to stop their stream during qualifiers. Scarlett is still talking to admins and suppy/major are being defiant about this. K scarlett has told suppy it's final they won't be allowed anything for today.

NASL is an official WCS partner, scarlett and co probably not. Probably there are some agreements on what can be shown by others and from which round the official partners should cast.

I thought Suppy said they asked NASL if they could cast some matches and NASL said it was okay, but then Blizzard said it wasn't NASL's call. Which seems weird to me, because isn't the only reason to keep it exclusive to benefit NASL?
The ESL streams were all authorized as language specific WCS streams, I guess if suppy/scarlett were willing to make themselves WCS stream 2 or something blizzard may allow them a green light.

that sound thing can be fixed with selecting other resolution. But its definitely a production error on the broadcaster side (ESL had it at a point aswell in may)
Just an interesting thing to note, but HyuN has been using the same styles in every match-up recently, from MLG, ATC and now even the WCS NA qualifier, which should place him at a disadvantage because he gets predictable. Yet somehow HyuN can muscle out victories through sheer mechanical prowess and some nice tactical skills he possess.

I was wondering where all the ESF players were for the Code A qualifiers. They all went to WCS NA, lmao.
Every player/team realizes that they will have to pay out of their own pocket if any player reaches top 16 Premier League right? Or are we going to see half of them forfeit because they can't pay for flights/accomodations/etc.
Only just tuned into this and had a quick peek at the RO32 so far on Liquipedia. Have to say compared to the kind of Korean threat EU faced I feel so sorry for all American's out there

The players trying to qualify from eSF teams probably can't even reach the ro16 with the players already in the Premier League so you don't have to worry about this... The only ones that probably could are the StarTale ones, and they have enough sponsors to support their travel expenses.

Well, AZUBU also has enough money to send their players. Just look at how much they send viOLet abroad.

why do these casters say Hyun is the first to go into the round of 16, when anyone with access to the bracket can clearly see that there are several other people in the round of 16 that got there before Hyun?

hm i understand it might be confusing at first sight to navigate around if youve never dealt with it. you just need to go to the bracket and click on the VS. between players to get to the match data. its pretty bad, but almost every european pro has played a go4sc2 once, so they could get to know where to click and how to do stuff on the website.

True but just because they're Kespa doesn't mean they're 'better'. Only 1/4 of the KeSPA players who signed up for this are still in it after all.

Everything seems to be going well so far, stream is fine. Really anticipating NASL in the offline portion because NASL Season 4 was fantastic. It might not have had the crowds of MLG and IPL or backed by huge sponsors, but it had its own quirky charm which made up for it all.

They're the Proleague benchwarmers for a reason... 3 of the 4 KeSPA players in this qualifier are already out in or before the Ro32.

siiick map intros, better casters (but that's very subjective in my opinion), other than that, it's still only the online qualifier, so there are no big changes compared to mlg.

Honestly, I think this qualifier bracket is harder than the recent Code A bracket. This does offer 4 chances though. But I think the Kespa/ESF players would have had a better chance staying in Korea imo. Then again, once you get Challenger/Premier League here it's a lot easier to maintain/advance so I guess it's a risk worth taking for a lot.

It's probably your ignorance. To get Code A you had to win 2 or 3 matches.
To get Challenger League in WCS NA you have to win 6. The player pool at the Code A qualifiers wasn't all that impressive either. Perhaps slightly better compared to these qualifiers.

It's actually intelligent. Just look back to YongHwa's bracket when he qualified. Easiest bracket ever. This bracket will be the same (or include more Koreans, such as Golden who didn't play in today's qualifier due to jetlag from MLG... or more KeSPA players that didn't play in this one for some reason.) every time. Plus the Koreans are waking up (or stating up until) to play in these qualifiers at like 2~5 AM (depending on the qualifier schedule, was 2 AM today). Who wants to be awake playing SC2 at that time? ~_~

There are 4 qualifiers. Top 2 qualify for challenger. You can play in multiple qualifiers if you lose

4 qualifiers, top 2 from each advance to challenger.
Just saw on Reddit that 4 hours ago, Scarlett, Major, Suppy, and Goswser were casting the WCS AM Qualifiers... Then Blizzard killed their stream. REALLY Blizzard? REALLY? Fuck you!
I think he should've gotten the templar archives a while ago or something, so much unused gas, and HT/archons would help so much against mutas. Motive keeps putting himself in a fantastic position then messing it up D:
Before you scoff at WCS AM, just look at some things:
1. JYP fled to WCS KR after failing to qualify for WCS AM premier or challenger divisions last season. He qualifies for WCS KR on the first try.
2. After HyuN qualifies in his bracket, WCS America will have 3 of the top 4 finishers at Homestory Cup VII including both finalists - TaeJa, Snute, and HyuN
3. After HyuN qualifies and now Sound changing his region to AM (qualifiers were too hard for a Red Bull LAN finalist like him. impressive shit), WCS AM will have 6 of the top 8 from the recent MLG including both finalists - Polt, HyuN, HerO, Sound, Jaedong, and Sage
4. Alicia dominated IMmvp at the WCS S1 season finals.
5. Both Red Bull Training Grounds finalists have changed their region to America - Sound and Golden
I think it's time we start realizing how strong WCS AM really is.

If I was zerg this is how I would play - build non stop drones early game and just accept some loses from hellions and hellbats and still be ahead economy wise.
I think zerg should just hold terran on 2 base on this map, rather then risk losing a ton of banelings like byul just did at the choke outside the natural + terran had a way better concave

"Challenger qualifier" doesn't sound that sexy but the competition is better than most S1 Premier groups I think. But yeah that and the time doesn't do it any favors viewer wise.
Select's rating got permanently obliterated by MLG vs Proleague I think. He lost to like every single Kespa player 0-2 when they were new to the system so their ratings were really low. Just look at his rating graph. I think he was on a 17 bo3 losing streak dating back to beating Puma in like October 2012. He finally broke it but his rating is destroyed.

the redbull thing doesn't speak in his favor tho.
True. He's definitely not a top player and won't have much of a chance here, but he probably has a slightly better shot against Xigua than it's giving him credit for. Xigua's streamed game didn't seem particularly impressive although it was a ZvZ so maybe that's just his worst matchup right now.

HyuN might be known as a mechanical monster, but I think he is underrated as a tactician. He takes great engagements with angling and micro, can pull off nice little tricks to take any advantage and defends well against most things. His only real issue recently has been his greed and tendency to get supply blocked frequently, but other than those two things, HyuN is absolutely terrifying.

I wouldn't even know how to stop this, center got an incredible amount of workers with his hellbats while losing not that much in drops, and yet HyuN still had so much zerg
start by not walking onto creep unsieged and losing armies. you can also start 2/2 after 1/1 instead of waiting several minutes (and getting contaminated to boot, but it was hugely delayed to begin with). also by losing "not that much", you mean every medivac right?

Why Blizzard so hellbent on ruining everything. They would obviously only be watched by the more hardcore / high level fan base that want to actually learn about SC2. Both crowds would have been appeased. . .
Can I please point out how great the NASL map intros are? Really great. I can't not be stoked for NASL. These dudes deserved to do WCS Americas so much.

Hot damn that was an impressive game from SeleCT. HyuN had better be careful, especially when SeleCT is such a drop heavy player which should work well against Roach/Bane.
This game has basically been one massive battle raging on for 15 minutes. Hack's macro is impressive, I haven't seen a Terran produce quite like him except a few KeSPA Terrans.
if brood lords were made, terran would have had to either commit to an attack with widow mines trying to burrow underneath or run back home and wait for a substantial amount of vikings. ultralisks are so useless in that situation and pretty much die without really being able to kill anything.
push creep out from the 3rd to give another angle from which the zerg could approach that position. i feel like you NEED creep to beat bio-mine, which meant he could never come down that ramp from the 4th.

Yes, if the Terran has high level micro you literally can't beat it without creep. You'd have to either tech to broodlords or land the sickest fungals ever.

If the Terran has high level micro sick Fungals aren't possible.
A Blizzard employee approaches you with a proposition. If HyuN wins against SeleCT and qualifies for WCS AM, you will receive $1 million esports dollars. If HyuN loses and SeleCT qualifies... YOU DIE
I've been watching HyuN play against many, many Terrans from a variety of skills, from Polt to some random NA players in HotS. Though people have a wide breadth of replays and even just word of mouth of HyuN's builds and composition, it just doesn't seem to hit people to counter his style blindly.

Make 2-3 tanks vs him in every game and I'm sure you will have a much better chance.

The problem is Hyun will switch it up and go super greedy. You don't want to be going tank against a zerg with five bases/90 drones
HyuN looking to finish game two quickly with a Roach Rush. Maybe he really is afraid of SeleCT's drop-heavy style and wants to finish it quick every game.
Ouch, this region is insanely stacked relative to the level of many of the foreigners there now. HerO going to have some stiff competition for season 2!

I thought I made a very convincing post in the power rank thread
WCS America even has two GSL semifinalists from last year and a three time GSL champion.
After doing some research, I'm surprised to report that WCS NA has the fewest GSL championships of the three regions, with Nestea+Polt's 4 to KR and EU's 7 each. Clearly this speaks to the fact that GSL is not a very competitive league, and that WCS NA players focus their efforts on more important events.

I actually think Korea is the easiest to qualify for, some of the brackets are ridiculously easy since there's less players competing for 22-24 spots every season instead of 8 for NA and EU.
