I remember Life getting lots of flak during his Royal Road run.

Taking out lots of fan favorite(Seed,MKP,Taeja,Nestea,MVP).

Winner of Hyun vs Bogus should win GSL.

But life played great. It became obvious through the season that he wasn't the random zerg people thought he was.

Sniper is just a zerg

Life had the whole 15 year old prodigy, crazy tactics and new style thing going for him. He played his own style, wasn't afraid to mix it up, and had entertaining games throughout his dominating run.

Sniper got second place in both his groups and then knocked out the fan favorite Leenock.

True.

Sniper is playing like how DRG has always been.
Just solid and standard play.
That's why Sniper is just a zerg.

Life and Leenock has always been entertaining zergs.

So, most unexpected GSL winner: jjakji, Polt or one of these four?

Hyun, eh, not so much.
Bogus, Ryung, and Sniper? Yeah.

Sniper winning would beat jjakji. Sniper is just...no hype. He's the guy who beats the hyped players.

Both Sniper and jjakji are very succesful teamleague players. They deserve more hype.

There just really isn't anything exciting about Sniper, though. He's very, very good, and I even said in the S4 preview of all the players he was a sneaky pick to win it all, but he's just kinda there. We really haven't seen any personality from him, and he hasn't had a defining series in his career.

Seed was the same until his Ro8 vs. Symbol that made his career. jjakji's didn't come till his finals against Leenock.

Completely agree on Sniper. He's like a Curious 2.0 before he started showing emotion at group selections.

I feel that way about all the final 4 tbh, I guess that's why I feel a bit disappointed. They're all just 'solid' players with no personality in both their play and out of game persona (except perhaps Ryung).

I think that HyuN and Bogus are the top contenders, but Sniper and Ryung are very close behind them. There's no clear favourite, which is pretty exciting. It's also nice to have two terrans in the semis, which should guarantee at least a few entertaining and action-packed games. I really like Bogus' style, and he's a Kespa player, so I'll be rooting for him.
first we make expand, then we defense it.

I think its kinda sad how people say this season "tanked" simply because non of their fan favorites are in top 4... give some new faces a chance. I always figured Ryung would win a GSL, I would safely bet this one is his.

I agree. The MLG Dallas finals with Life vs Leenock were so much fun to watch. It's hard to get excited about Sniper vs. Bogus or whatever.

There's nothing wrong with new faces, people love new faces.

BUT, people want to see the new faces face off against the old guard, the Mvp's, the MC's, the DRG's, the MMA's.

It's just not as hyped.

Season 2 and 4 were the best seasons this year and both featured a royal roader vs Mvp in the finals.

Mvp in the finals = ultimate hype

This season's Ro4 may not have the most hyped players, but anyone who says it's a "bad" or even "the worst" Code S ro4 needs to wake up. These players are really good and by no means are they scrubs or cheesy players. And this is coming from someone who saw his three favorite players knocked out.

It's not only that, but people like to see dominating play.

Sniper placed 2nd in both his groups.
Hyun placed 2nd in both his groups and one of them only had 3 players.
Innovation placed 1st in his Ro16 group, but 2nd in his Ro32 group.
Ryung placed 2nd in both of his groups.

It's easy to hype things when a player is crushing through the GSL like Squirtle/Life did. Three of the four players got through by the skin of their teeth twice in the group stages.

I would guess right now, at least 100 players in Korea can win GSL Code S when they are on fire.

They are just so even skillwise, anyone can beat anyone, and the game is so volatile.

Nobody are saying they are bad players. Bad players don't make a GSL round of 4, but I think the calls about it being a bad GSL are completely justified. The quality of games this season have been dreadful when you compare them to rest of the seasons this year.

There are actually tons of good player in Code B/A.

Seed and Jiakji just got knocked out of Code A.
The Korean scene is just brutal.
