So there are a bunch of the top SC2 players facing off against a random handful of recently switched BW pros, none of which are Flash, Jaedong or Bisu, for whatever reason. Is this some sort of old BW tournament revamped to include SC2? Will there be BW played alongside? Is this meant to be prestigious or more of an exhibition? Why has it sneaked up so much under the radar? I'll try to tune in of I can find an english stream, but I have no idea what to expect.

edit: To the dude above, this hasn't been under the radar at all if you have been following the Korean scene.

Lol at OGN. They freaking abandoned BW, because sponsors want to reach international market, and now they actually doing nothing to make this event friendly for foreigner viewers.

Sc2 players play each other, kespa players play each other, top 8 of each meet in ro16 2. This is the most prestigious tournament in esports for the past decade. 3. Sorta sneaked under the radar??? 4. Expect gsl players to beat the kespa players, but don't count the kespa players out...

Sorta sneaked under the radar??? I consider myself a fairly typical follower of the SC2 scene. I watch interesting nights of GSL, every major foreign tournament, most episodes of SOTG and ITG, teamliquid is my homepage and I always browse reddit. All I've heard of this tournament is seeing this thread by chance. For the "most prestigious esports tournament in the past decade" it sure hasn't made much of a splash in the foreign world as far as I can tell.

You are right, though, the SC2 community was never introduced well to this event. I don't know why they neglected to promote it during the exhibition tournament at MLG, but they really need to reach out more to foreigners.

If people complaining "boo-hoo, its too random in sctoo", then, maybe problem is in the game? Lol at OGN. They freaking abandoned BW, because sponsors want to reach international market, and now they actually doing nothing to make this event friendly for foreigner viewers. This is sad because It's true, they really need to promote their event better if they really do want international viewers. For the "most prestigious esports tournament in the past decade" it sure hasn't made much of a splash in the foreign world as far as I can tell. I would say it's gone under the radar because: - Marketing a Korean event to a western audience without having an English stream is nearly impossible. - OGN has not attempted to advertise/hype their event at all on TL, Reddit, or elsewhere. - NASL is this weekend, MLG Arena is next weekend. We also have GSL Semi-Finals later this week. The TL writers are busy and cannot cover it right now. - No one outside of a select few threads are talking about it. - There's so much going on in SC2 that OGN needs to give people a reason to follow their tournament. We already have GSL, a well-produced premier Korean sc2 live event ( team league and individual league ) 4-5 days a week with arguably the best casting team in the business. - Why should I watch OSL compared to GSL? GOM even scheduled their gom-kespa cross-match thing tonight at roughly the same time as the ODT. Why should I watch the ODT instead of that? ( this ties into #2 )

OGN, which has long been the big dog in the BW scene, might find itself becoming the new MBCGame of Starcraft II to GomTV. OGN and Kespa (they are often associated together by many, regardless of whether this is fair) have a poor reputation when it comes to foreign outreach, and in comparison, GSL is highly regarded in this aspect. That's a huge brand and goodwill advantage that GSL has over the OSL, and along with the extra 2 years experience in pro-SC2 that GSL has over OSL, could really help GSL establish itself over OSL. But I don't live in Korea, and I speak as a foreigner looking in, and maybe it is possible to sustain a tournament off of Korean TV viewers only. I don't know. The scene outside of Korea isn't everything, but I'd like to think that it is substantial, and I hope OSL does a better job in global fan outreach.

The good will that GOM has built up over the years with the sc2 community combined with having Tasteosis casting their event are the biggest reasons GOM will always be bigger than OGN in the foreigner scene.
