From what I understand, he doesn't view this as a career. He plans on going to med school when his dominant run is over, so he is enjoying himself while getting flown around the world for free and winning some extra cash on the side.

I think I could abstain from 1 night of drinking if it meant 10,000. But, it gives a handy excuse as well.

I am always glad to pay for these arenas, I however do not pay for the 8 player arenas, I want to see lots of different games played by lots of different players, and these 32 player arenas are best for this. This way, I can always be watching top players of my own race, and see a lot of different styles.

People who don't follow him don't understand how bad Stephano's ZvZ has gotten these last few weeks.
Stephano has ever relied on his decision making, yet for ZvZ his decision making is terrible. He had Game 2 - all he needed to do was build a bunch of roaches once he pushed back Symbol's ling baneling, and then push out once his +1 and roach speed finished. With that, Symbol's attack fails, he gets chased down with roach speed, and instantly loses.
But instead Stephano made drones, thinking that Symbol was going to drone behind this and he was safe. That logic works in other match ups, but it doesn't work in ZvZ. In ZvZ, you always want to attack, because say Symbol did make drones after losing his units - then an attack from Stephano instantly kills him.
ZvZ is not about building drones, it's about building units and making use of them.
Playing for the late game works in ZvT and ZvP. It doesn't work in ZvZ.

And to be quite frank, after seeing how strong Violet´s and Symbol´s ZvZ really is, the decision to enjoy his life was probably a good one. With BlinG in NYC they surely had some fun.
He probably knew that 3rd place was the end of the road. And while I don´t necessarily agree with that way of thinking, he made the best of it.

By what we know from him, maybe he knew he has like 10% chance of winning in his worst MU against two monsters like Symbol and Violet, and so he thought that it'd be better to have some good time. It would be logic, knowing his "practical" approach of life.
